3. Graduate Recruitment 2014/15
Build Your Own Career
“daa needs to build and deepen its talent right throughout the organisation.
Graduate recruitment is one of the ways to achieve this”
Mick Byrne
Development Programmes Manager
daa has been recruiting at a steady pace in the graduate market for a number of years
now. The credibility of the graduate programme has grown enormously in that time and
graduates are in big demand. The need for ambitious, energetic and bright people has
never been greater in daa than it is today. We are growing again, we have some very excit-
ing businesses in dynamic market segments and we need talent now and into the future to
sustain and grow these businesses. The potential for growth in all of our markets is huge;
we need people up to the challenge of driving and supporting this growth strategy.
We offer a challenging, complex and dynamic work environment with opportunities for
significant accelerated learning opportunities and personal development. Our two year

skills. We know that now more than ever that there is a strong demand for this knowledge
and these skills worldwide. Our Graduates need to be mobile and flexible and willing to
travel to all areas of our business both nationally and internationally.
daa needs to build and deepen its talent right throughout the organisation. Graduate
recruitment is one of the ways to achieve this. We also invest heavily in our people

ment development programmes and talent development programme below manager
level. These programmes together with the graduate development programme represent

5. Let’s hear from the Graduates themselves
Joao Freitas - 2013 Graduate
Caoilfhionn Nic Conmara – 2011 Graduate
‘Aviation management is complex and for someone that has a keen interest in it, there are few
places that expose you as much as daa’s Graduate Programme. From ARI’s world-class retail
offerings to a 20+ million-passenger a year aviation operation, diversity is constant, projects are
far-reaching and management is always at reach for graduates. This makes daa the perfect place
to learn and establish yourself in the business.
‘I chose the daa as I wanted to work for a dynamic, renowned, Irish company that is recognized
and respected by future employers both at home and abroad. The daa also drew me due to the
breadth of its functions and the opportunities that this would afford me to get experience working
in different departments.’
‘I chose daa because of the diversity of the nature of the company. It is a company that not only
manages Airport Operations but also other businesses that are relevant to non-aeronautical
industries as well. The learning opportunities are immense, you have the ability to work at and
across different job functions if you so wish.’
‘From the start of the graduate programme I knew what kind of career path I wanted to follow
with the daa. My aims were recognised early on and I was encouraged and helped along by my
colleagues. Being involved in the Energy Management aspect of such a large and diversified
company will provide invaluable experience as I learn from the extremely knowledgeable
colleagues I work with’
Jacqueline Chan - 2013 Graduate
Stevie Donnelly - 2010 Graduate
5
6. Let’s hear from the Graduates themselves
Fergal Slowly, Health Safety Security and Environment - 2010 Graduate
Jane Gully, ARI Retail - 2010 Graduate
‘I joined the graduate programme in 2010 and have since transitioned into a specialist role with
increased responsibility within the HSSE Department. The graduate programme allowed me to gain
experience with and exposure to a whole range of different departments and teams and I continue
to work cross functionally, leading projects across the varying range of environmental and health and
safety aspects. The learning curve has been challenging but the experience I’ve gained in a short
space of time has been and will be invaluable throughout my career.
I’m currently studying for an MSc in Environmental Health & Safety and plan to take on new
projects within this discipline in order to expand my skillset and knowledge base. This further learning in
addition to the technical expertise I am developing will assist daa to continue to meet the regulatory
demands of the dynamic airport environment.
To effectively contribute to this key goal for daa requires a comprehensive understanding of the
airport operation and the ability to work closely with and build relationships with colleagues across the
organisation. The learning opportunities that the graduate programme affords, has greatly facilitated
the building of my well-rounded portfolio of skills and experience necessary to begin developing a
career within daa.’
‘The daa graduate programme presents an abundance of opportunities and challenges. The
opportunities are what you make of them: presenting to senior management teams; being part of
a project group; networking. You are given you the chance to work with people at all levels of the
organisation and supported along the way. There really is something for everyone; it’s about
finding out what area of the business interests you, working hard and getting involved in whatever way
possible to make sure that you leave a lasting impression’
‘The airport conjures up feelings of dynamism, movement and excitement and working in the airport
is no different! From day one I’ve been involved in key strategic projects that have been both varied
and challenging. This has allowed me to gain unrivalled insight and experience from working closely
with senior management and the Executive. DAA has given me opportunities for personal and career
development that I wouldn’t have experienced in any other company. Working for the DAA opens so
many possibilities as there are so many different businesses and departments from retail to airside
operations to human resources. When I started in daa four years ago it was a job, it didn’t take long to
realise that I’d just started my career!’
Sarah Flood, Commercial Property - 2009 Graduate

7. The operation is where the business meets our customers; passengers,
airlines, concessions, handling agents and visitors to our Dublin and Cork
airports. It is where we have to excel. We need to be ‘the’ best in class,
leaders in every way operationally. We have developed our expertise over
decades to ensure we run a safe secure and at the same time customer
centric airport. This is thanks to the dedication and commitment of our
operations people and the systems, processes and support mechanisms
which we have developed and continue to develop along our journey.
There are a number of distinct disciplines where you could add value.
Airside Operations: With responsibility for the safe and efficient
running of everything on the area known as the manoeuvring area, the ramp
including our aircraft stands and the airfield, this is a highly regulated and
controlled environment. Management of our safety management systems
and adherence to the many international and national regulations is a
critical role of airside operations. Input into the safe development and
maintenance of the infrastructure of the runways, taxiways and other key
airport infrastructure within the regulatory regime add another layer of
complexity to this operational function.
Security Operations: Ensuring that our passengers are secure and safe
while at the same time providing a strong emphasis on customer service
is the straightforward proposition for this operational business. Handling
every passenger that flies out of our airports places security operations in
a unique position of responsibility. Consistency, adherence to regulations
and flawless execution of our security operations helps to contribute to a
smooth and improving customer experience. Continuous improvement,
benchmarking against the very best internationally, and working closely
with our security officers is central to success here.
Customer & Campus Operations: The seemingly seamless transi-
tion from online booking of your car park space to boarding your flight
belies the complexity of the airport operation. Customer & Campus
operations facilitates this happening 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, all year
round. From the road infrastructure to terminal facilities and management
of our many and diverse stakeholders this is a multi-faceted and complex
environment where energy and creativity are premium competencies.
Operations Planning: Responsible for planning and delivering
terminal and airfield operational facilities at Dublin airport over the horizon
of 1 to 5 years. Responsible for slot coordination, terminal and airfield
capacity management. This unit also provides Business Continuity
resiliencetoairportoperationsandServiceQualityauditingonthepassenger
experience at Dublin Airport.

our Advertising and Marketing businesses. We also have
opportunities to continuously develop our internal
businesses for example through Value Add Services in our VIP
and terminal services businesses (e.g. fast-track and airport
genie). Increasingly we are looking to new areas and
markets from which to grow. We have a pipeline of new busi-
ness development opportunities and we are leveraging our
in-house expertise and innovative business practices in new
and exciting markets. The potential for the growth of our
current and new businesses is huge and we need bright,
insightful and enthusiastic people to drive this growth with our
team.
Ensuring a sustainable return on our business…

players in the global travel retail industry today. ARI designs,

11. daa International…
International Transactions Business of the daa Group…
The business was established in mid-2013 and builds on the recent history of the
daa Group in successful airport transactions and transitions. It also builds on our
experience of delivering the €1.2 billion capital programme, which included the
development of Dublin Airport Terminal 2 and Pier D.
We work as an airport operational partner to institutional funds and infrastruc-
ture developers that are acquiring airport assets. Our objective is to provide
added value to our clients by improving the commercial performance of their airport
investments.
We achieve this by transitioning and managing the operation of airports using
a management contracting model, supported by the provision of strategic and
operational advisory services.
With a small core team, daa International draws upon the experience and
expertise of the people within the broader daa Group across a range of
functions. Through the daa International business, we are charged with delivering
a sustainable flow of revenues and profits for the benefit of the daa Group.

12
13. One of the most diverse functions in daa is the Corporate function, this
encompasses Human Resources, Legal, Strategy & Regulation,
Insurance & Risk, Public Affairs, Secretariat, Health & Safety, Sustainability
and the Environment and Group Security. To ensure daa has a sustainable
business model it requires a professional support function to ensure that it
operates within regulatory frameworks and carries out its business in line with
accepted best practices. The corporate team in daa supports the business by
enabling them to get on with managing the day to day business matters and
providing direct support, advice and guidance when required.
Driving a professional approach to business at daa...
13
14. Large infrastructural, capital intensive projects such as T2 are a feature
of the airport industry. Having the capability to design, plan and manage
large capital project such as T2 has been important for daa over the last
decade in particular. The day to day management of the physical asset
is a complex and multi-disciplinary undertaking that encompasses many
systems in our terminals, runways and taxiways, installations, buildings
and more. Ensuring that our assets are maintained and fit for purpose
and being always ready to respond to the inevitable systems or facilities
failures is a key success factor in managing and developing our critical
physical assets.
Managing and developing our airport assets...
14
15. daa, as part of our Sustainability policy, has a strong commitment
to working closely and actively with our local communities. daa
has, for many years, been closely involved with various community
projects and local sporting clubs. daa’s sponsorship policy is to
channel support towards youth projects particularly in areas such
as sport and the arts within a close radius of the airport.
daa as a member of Business in the Community Ireland is one of
46 socially minded Irish companies profiled on their Business Im-
pact Map. These companies have formed over 4,800 communi-
ty partnerships and donated over €21.3 million in cash donations,
in-kind donations and employee fundraising to local charities and
community groups. This information is captured by Business in the
Community Ireland on an online interactive map entitled the
“Business Impact Map” which gives a county by county
breakdown of how much companies and employees supported
their local community groups and charities in 2012.

15
16. The daa Charity of The Year programme was launched
in 2007. Since then each daa staff member has had the
opportunity to vote for their very own daa Charity of the
Year. A committee was formed from a cross section of
departments. This committee is responsible for liaising
with the successful charity to organise fund raising events
involving staff and facilities. Staff have donated over €1m
since the Charity of the Year Programme was launched.
