This meta-analysis examined the relationship between vitamin D intake and risk of type 1 diabetes. The analysis identified 11 observational studies, including 8 studies on vitamin D supplementation during early life and 3 on maternal vitamin D intake during pregnancy. The meta-analysis found that vitamin D supplementation during early life was associated with a 29% reduced risk of type 1 diabetes. However, the analysis found no clear association between maternal vitamin D intake during pregnancy and risk of type 1 diabetes in offspring.
