Book of Baruch, ancient text purportedly written by Baruch, secretary and friend of Jeremiah, the Old Testament prophet. The text is still extant in Greek and in several translations from Greek into Latin, Syriac, Coptic, Ethiopic, and other languages. The Book of Baruch is apocryphal to the Hebrew and Protestant canons but was incorporated in the Septuagint and was included in the Old Testament for Roman Catholics. The work is a compilation of several authors and is the only work among the apocrypha that was consciously modeled after the prophetic writings of the Old Testament.
The Prayer of Azariah and the accompanying Song of the Three Young Men form part of chapter three and embellish the story of Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah, three young Jewish men who were bound and thrown into a fiery furnace for defying Nebuchadrezzar’s order to worship an idol.
The Book of Habakkuk is the eighth book of the 12 minor prophets of the Bible. It is attributed to the prophet Habakkuk, and was probably composed in the late 7th century BC. The original text was written in the Hebrew language.
The Greek version of Esther, found in the Septuagint, contains six additions not found in the Hebrew version of Esther that is in most Bibles. These additions to Esther consist of a prologue, prayers by Mordecai and Esther, the texts of the decrees from King Ahasuerus, amplifications to, and elaborations of, the narrative, and a postscript.
The Book of Zephaniah is the ninth of the Twelve Minor Prophets of the Old Testament and Tanakh, preceded by the Book of Habakkuk and followed by the Book of Haggai. Zephaniah means "Yahweh has hidden/protected," or "Yahweh hides".
2nd Maccabees is a deuterocanonical book which recounts the persecution of Jews under King Antiochus IV Epiphanes and the Maccabean Revolt against him. Painting by Pierre Paul Rubens, 1634.

(A Psalm of David.) The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the LORD is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid? Though an host should encamp against me, my heart shall not fear: though war should rise against me, in this will I be confident. 2. KAPITOLA 1
2 Pátého roku a sedmého dne toho měsíce, kdy
Chaldejci dobyli Jeruzalém a spálili jej ohněm.
3 A Báruch četl slova této knihy k doslechu
Jechoniáše, syna Joachima, krále judského, a v
uších všeho lidu, který si knihu přišel
poslechnout,
4 A ve slyšení šlechticů a královských synů a ve
nejvyšší, dokonce i všech, kteří žili v Babylóně
u řeky Sud.
5 Načež plakali, postili se a modlili se před
Hospodinem.
6 Udělali také sbírku peněz podle síly každého
člověka:
7 A poslali to do Jeruzaléma veleknězi
Joachimovi, synu Chelkiase, syna Salomova, a
oltáři Hospodina, Boha našeho;
12 A Hospodin nám dá sílu a osvětlí naše oči a
budeme žít ve stínu babylonského krále
Nabuchodonozora a ve stínu Balthasara, jeho
syna, a budeme jim sloužit mnoho dní a najdeme
v jejich očích přízeň. .
neboť jsme zhřešili proti Pánu Bohu svému; a až
14 A budete číst tuto knihu, kterou jsme vám
poslali, abyste se vyznali v domě Páně o svátcích
a slavnostních dnech.
15 A řeknete: Hospodinu, našemu Bohu, náleží
stalo, těm z Judy a obyvatelům Jeruzaléma,
16 A našim králům, našim knížatům, našim
kněžím, našim prorokům a našim otcům:
17 Vždyť jsme zhřešili před Hospodinem,
18 A neposlechli jsme ho a neposlechli hlasu
Hospodina, našeho Boha, abychom žili v
přikázáních, která nám zjevně dal:
19 Ode dne, kdy Hospodin vyvedl naše praotce
z egyptské země, až do dnešního dne jsme
neposlouchali Hospodina, svého Boha, a nedbali
21 My jsme však neuposlechli hlasu Pána,
srdce, aby sloužil cizím bohům a činil zlo v očích
Hospodina, našeho Boha.
KAPITOLA 2
1Hospodin tedy napravil své slovo, které
vyslovil proti nám a proti našim soudcům, kteří
soudili Izrael, a proti našim králům a našim
knížatům a proti mužům Izraele a Judy,
zákoně Mojžíšově;
3 Aby člověk jedl maso svého vlastního syna a
jsme zhřešili proti Hospodinu, svému Bohu, a
10 My jsme však neposlouchali jeho hlas,
abychom chodili v přikázáních Páně, která nám
předložil.
11 A nyní, Pane Bože Izraele, který jsi vyvedl
svůj lid z egyptské země mocnou rukou a
14 Vyslyš naše prosby, Hospodine, a naše
17 Otevři oči své a pohleď; neboť mrtví, kteří
jsou v hrobech, jejichž duše jsou vzaty z těla,
nebudou vzdávat Hospodinu ani chválu, ani
spravedlnost.
vzdají tobě chválu a spravedlnost, Hospodine.
19 Neprosíme tedy před tebou, Pane Bože náš,
svou pokornou prosbu za spravedlnost otců
našich a králů našich.
20Vždyť jsi na nás seslal svůj hněv a rozhořčení,
jak jsi mluvil skrze své služebníky proroky, řka:
21 Takto praví Hospodin: Skloňte se rameny
svými, abyste sloužili králi Babylonskému, tak
zůstanete v zemi, kterouž jsem dal otcům vašim.
22 Jestliže však neuslyšíte hlas Hospodinův,
abyste sloužili babylonskému králi,
23 Způsobím, že z judských měst az Jeruzaléma
ustane hlas veselí a hlas radosti, hlas ženicha a
hlas nevěsty, a celá země bude zpustošena.
obyvatel.
mečem a morem.
26 A dům, kterýž jest nazván jménem tvým, jsi
Izraelského a domu Judova.
neboť jim dám srdce a uši, aby slyšeli.
32 A budou mě chválit v zemi svého zajetí a
Izákovi a Jákobovi, a budou jí pány; a
KAPITOLA 3
před tebou zhřešili a neposlouchali hlas tebe,
7 A proto jsi vložil do našich srdcí svou bázeň,
11 Zdaliž jsi počítán s těmi, kteříž sestupují do
hrobu?
12 Opustil jsi pramen moudrosti.
15 Kdo zjistil její místo? aneb kdo vešel do
pokladů jejích?
16 Kde jsou knížata pohanů, kteří vládnou
zvířatům na zemi?
17 Ti, kteří se bavili s nebeským ptactvem, a ti,
kteří shromažďovali stříbro a zlato, v něž lidé
důvěřují, a nedostávají konce?
22 Nebylo o tom slyšet v Chanaanu a nebylo to
vidět v Themanu.
23 Agaréni, kteří hledají moudrost na zemi,
obchodníci z Merana a Themanu, autoři bajek a
25 Veliký a bez konce; vysoká a neměřitelná.
27 Ty si Pán nevyvolil, ani jim nedal cestu
poznání:
28 Ale oni byli zničeni, protože neměli moudrost,
a zahynuli svou vlastní hloupostí.
29 Kdo vystoupil do nebe, vzal ji a snesl z oblaků?
30 Kdo přešel moře a nalezl ji, a přinesl ji pro
čisté zlato?
31 Nikdo nezná její cestu, ani nemyslí na její
stezku.
36 Zjistil všecku cestu poznání a dal ji Jákobovi
služebníku svému a Izraeli milému svému.
vychoval; a zarmoutili jste Jeruzalém, kterýž vás
kojil.
pláčem a smutkem.
14 Ať přijdou ti, kteří bydlí kolem Sionu, a
nestydatý a cizího jazyka, kterýž nectí starce ani
nelituje dítěte.
16 Tito odnesli milované děti vdovy a nechali ji,
a on vás vysvobodí z moci a z rukou nepřátel.
tebe přijde s velikou slávou a jasem věčným.
26 Moji křehcí prošli drsnými cestami a byli
ti dal to jméno, tě potěší.
KAPITOLA 5
1 Svlékni, Jeruzaléme, roucho smutku a soužení
věky: Pokoj spravedlnosti a sláva uctívání
kopec a břehy dlouhého trvání byly svrženy a
údolí zasypána, aby byla vyrovnána zem, aby
Izrael mohl jít bezpečně v slávě Boží,
8 Nadto i lesy a každý strom vonící zastíní
Izrael přikázáním Božím.
9 Bůh totiž povede Izrael s radostí ve světle své
slávy s milosrdenstvím a spravedlností, která od
něho pochází.
