β- CD
α- CD
β- CD
CURRICULUM VITAE
3
Accomplishments: αβ-CD heteroduplex was synthesized by oxidative coupling between α-CD dithiol
(6-step synthesis) and β-CD dithiol (6-step synthesis). Selective synthesis of the aforementioned
heteroduplex was also performed in the presence of custom made template. Method of its separation
and purification was developed using chromatography - gradient elution: LC-MS (waters), reverse
phase-preparative/analytical, flash etc.). In water, the duplex showed high binding affinities
(determined by VP-ITC technique) with several probe guests.
4. 09/2006 - 02/2011 (4-year, 5-month)
Ph.D. research student [Doctoral stipend + Dean award (54- month) + Rector award (12-month)]
Department of Chemistry, Masaryk University in Brno, Czech Republic
Dissertation title: Modified cucurbit[n]urils: synthesis and supramolecular interactions.
Accomplishments: My Ph.D. dissertation comprised of four projects: two major independent and two
collaborative projects.
Major projects: Two new water soluble functionalized cucurbit[n]urils (A and B, CB[n], n = 6) were
synthesized, purified and characterized and their supramolecular interactions with organic guests were
studied. Binding modes of the macrocycle B (hexamethylcucurbit[6]uril, MeCB[6]) with viologen
guests (MeV2+
and MeV+
) in solution and solid state were determined. Macrocycle B exhibited strong
binding affinity toward MeV2+
guest (K = 105
M-1
) in pure water. 1
H NMR and UV-vis titration
experiments showed remarkable weakening of the B-MeV2+
complex in the presence of NaCl.
Synthesis of macrocycle A was the first example of substituted CB[6] with one substituent at the
methylene bridge position. New method of synthesis, isolation and purification was developed. The
results introduced a milestone concept in the chemistry of CB[n] compound and further extend its area
of application.
Collaborative projects: In one project, new method of deprotection of a propylene glycoluril dimer
(C) was introduced. In the second project, a CB[6] based supramolecular shuttle (rotaxane) was
constructed based on the complexation studies between CB[6] and a bispyridinium ethylene guest.
5. 11/2005 - 02/2006 (4-month)
Research student
University of Chemical Technology Prague, Technická 5, Prague 6, Czech Republic
Project summary: Synthesis, purification and characterization of binaphthalene based receptors for

Latos-Grażyński) Department of Chemistry, University of Wroclaw, Wroclaw, Poland Project title: Synthesis, purification and characterization of a carbachlorin molecule (structurally related to a Chlorin molecule, 20 π electron system) and it’s complexation with transition metal. Accomplishments: Final carbachlorin was synthesized with optimization and characterized. 3. 08/2011 – 12/2012 (1-year, 5-month) Research assistant Institute of Organic Chemistry and Biochemistry (IOCB), Academy of Science of the Czech Republic (AS CR), Flemingovo nám. 2, 166 10 Praha 6, Czech Republic Project title: Synthesis, purification and characterization of αβ-cyclodextrin (CD) heteroduplex and it’s complexation with guest molecules. β- CD α- CD α- CD β- CD α- CD β- CD
  • 3. CURRICULUM VITAE 3 Accomplishments: αβ-CD heteroduplex was synthesized by oxidative coupling between α-CD dithiol (6-step synthesis) and β-CD dithiol (6-step synthesis). Selective synthesis of the aforementioned heteroduplex was also performed in the presence of custom made template. Method of its separation and purification was developed using chromatography - gradient elution: LC-MS (waters), reverse phase-preparative/analytical, flash etc.). In water, the duplex showed high binding affinities (determined by VP-ITC technique) with several probe guests. 4. 09/2006 - 02/2011 (4-year, 5-month) Ph.D. research student [Doctoral stipend + Dean award (54- month) + Rector award (12-month)] Department of Chemistry, Masaryk University in Brno, Czech Republic Dissertation title: Modified cucurbit[n]urils: synthesis and supramolecular interactions. Accomplishments: My Ph.D. dissertation comprised of four projects: two major independent and two collaborative projects. Major projects: Two new water soluble functionalized cucurbit[n]urils (A and B, CB[n], n = 6) were synthesized, purified and characterized and their supramolecular interactions with organic guests were studied. Binding modes of the macrocycle B (hexamethylcucurbit[6]uril, MeCB[6]) with viologen guests (MeV2+ and MeV+ ) in solution and solid state were determined. Macrocycle B exhibited strong binding affinity toward MeV2+ guest (K = 105 M-1 ) in pure water. 1 H NMR and UV-vis titration experiments showed remarkable weakening of the B-MeV2+ complex in the presence of NaCl. Synthesis of macrocycle A was the first example of substituted CB[6] with one substituent at the methylene bridge position. New method of synthesis, isolation and purification was developed. The results introduced a milestone concept in the chemistry of CB[n] compound and further extend its area of application. Collaborative projects: In one project, new method of deprotection of a propylene glycoluril dimer (C) was introduced. In the second project, a CB[6] based supramolecular shuttle (rotaxane) was constructed based on the complexation studies between CB[6] and a bispyridinium ethylene guest. 5. 11/2005 - 02/2006 (4-month) Research student University of Chemical Technology Prague, Technická 5, Prague 6, Czech Republic Project summary: Synthesis, purification and characterization of binaphthalene based receptors for binding anions. 6. 10/2004 - 07/2005 (10-month) Research student [UNESCO - IUPAC Postgraduate course in polymer science (with research)] Institute of Macromolecular Chemistry, AS CR, Heyrovského nám. 2, Praha 6, Czech Republic A B
