B) Since April 2011 till March 2015 :- G.M(Technical), Head Structures, M/s DLF- Rentco.
Following Projects were handled and reviewed to economize overall structural cost and execution time, along
with validity of Design and drawings with compliance to NBC and Indian Codes.
B1) Mall of India-Noida:- Project Since 2006.(Highlights Only)
1) At the last stage, a 30m x 24m food court, without any intermediate Column was introduced at 5th floor
above atrium. Apart from this two cinema halls were added at random location. Even though Consultants
required 6 weeks to reanalyze & redesign, they were convinced the solutions provided my myself and the
construction never stopped. Saved 2 months and thus saved rental income of 30-40 cr.
2) The closure of DG sets was very efficiently planned which saved fuel consumption amounting to 1-1.5 Cr,
and resolved many more issues related with government authorities, as they were closed six months before
the consultant’s requirement.
3) The structure was converted from Type-2 to Type-1 to meet fire safety norms as per NBC.As per
Consultant’s requirement it required lot of additional work on completed structure. This could have caused 6
months delay. Many of the suggestions saved at least three month. Considering 25Cr as monthly Rental
income, there was substantial saving in terms of time & cost and practical issues regarding its implementation.
4) Few issues in design were overlooked by the consultants. For instance issues related to vibration on huge
food court area 30mx24m, without any intermediate column/support. Subsequently it was resolved; else it
would not have been possible for people to sit there for more than five minutes.
5) Various innovative design concepts were introduced in order to reduce the cost, for example “Composite
Concrete and Steel Construction”. In addition, as required, timely simple construction solutions were provided
6) Got structural design audited and certified from IIT-Roorkee, IIT-Mumbai and IIT-Delhi Including stability
against uplift due to high water table level
B2) YPCC Project at Chanakya Puri :- New Project for Construction.
1) The initial design philosophy followed by Principal Structural consultant and proof consultant was not in
compliance with Indian codes for Earthquake: IS 1893. The same was rectified.
2) There was saving of 30% in over all structural cost (Approx 8cr -9cr).The steel consumption got reduced
from 8.7 kg/sq ft to 5.96 kg/sq ft, this being the least of all of the projects of DLF till date.
3) Backfilling with fine sand recommended by PMC was replaced with normal compacted earth work.
Expensive waterproofing below Foundation was eliminated and waterproofing along the retaining wall was
modified with Tape create system as water table was 20 meter below foundation level.
B3) GE Plastic in Gurgaon, presently known as Cyber park :-
Involved as Head, Structural Engineer on behalf of M/s DLF and dealt with Structural Consultant.
I was from the consultant side before the work was stopped in 2010.At that time the basic structural system
for 3-blocks and office complex at higher level, with span around 40 meters without support and supporting 4
additional floors above was finalized by myself including issuance of GFC for Foundation, apart from shoring
required for approximately 16.0 meters.
B4) Already Completed Pojects:- Emporio & Promenade at Vasant Kunj, Saket Mall, HUB, Parking
Towers and Infinity Energy Centre at Cybercity, Gurgaon, IT-Park at Chennai, Pune & Hyderabad.
The work involved alterations required as per leasing requirement. In addition, rehabilitations of structures
considering various factors such as durability of concrete and corrosion of reinforcement. Corrosion of steel is
caused due to presence of chloride in water which is used for construction, or water leaking through various
expansion and construction joint. Similarly carbonation of concrete is caused due to excess carbon-dioxide,
aggregated by high temperatures and improper ventilation, as generally possible in Energy Centers and cases
involving Blast Loads. Also, concrete deteriorates because of presence of sulphates in soil which gets in
Contact with concrete surface. IIT-Delhi was also involved in few of these repair works.
C) From 1998 to April 2011:Senior Structural Engineer(Associate), Mehro
Consultants,
Following Residential, commercial, offices and institutional Projects were handled including Design &
Proof Checking.
C1) Design:-
a) Mall of India, Noida, India’s Biggest Mall:-Since 2006 to April 2011 as a key person of Consultant and
as employee of M/s DLF from April 2011-Till March 2014, Explored and designed various alternative
schemes for excavation, as the structure consist of four basements, with PCC level of foundation at 16m
below NGL and water table level at -7 meter below ground, causing significant uplift pressure .Options like
open excavation, Touching piles, Diaphragm wall were explored with various structural boundary
condition and finally D-wall was adopted. The piling work got completed for complete structure to carry
out Top-down construction from B01 level, i. e construction above ground in parallel with excavation
below ground followed by Raft foundation and conversion of piles into columns and subsequently casting
slab at basement levels. However the concept could not be followed because of certain constraints at site.
b) Centre Stage Mall, Sector 18, Atta Chowk, Noida: - First steel structure built by M/s Chadha and M/s
Shipra Group. The steel section joints were detailed for ductility. Research work carried out by M/s
Chawla Technocrat on fire rating of steel sections. This resulted in substantial saving in terms of time and
cost. Dewatering was carried out because of two basements and high water table level.
c) Express Trade Tower, Film City, Noida: Consisted of two basements with high water table level.
Dewatering was carried out and to retain earth during excavation steel shoring system was adopted using
steel sections, wailer beam and taking structural advantage of B1 slab and raft cast in the interior portion.
d) Finalization of structural concept and preliminary design of ONGC Project at Rajarhat Kolkata:
Steel Structure with vierendeal system at 30m height above ground and spanning 52m simply supported,
cantilevering 24m on both sides. Approached IIT-Roorkee, Prof Prem Krishna, M/s RWDI and Prof.
Arunachalam of SERC-Chennai for investigating inelastic response of structure to aerodynamic wind load.
e) Design of Cybercity -Gurgaon and other IT Park in India for M/s DLF Ltd.
