images is communicated to the referring team/ reporting radiologist or radiographer for immediate
action.
 Ensure radiation doses are as low as reasonably achievable to patients, staff and visitors, balancing
clinical necessity with the dangers of exposing them to ionising radiation.
 To undertake a specific allocated role in the management of the department.
 To assess and treat own patient workload and maintain associated records in an unsupervised area of
responsibility.
 Actively participate in and be responsible for the organization of the radiographic team and patient
workload in allocated area(s).
 Undertake specialized radiographic examinations in Cross Sectional Imaging specifically CT
Scanning, MRI Scanning.
Clinical:
 Take an active unsupervised role in the Cross Sectional Imaging section of Radiology to include
specialized radiographic examinations.
 Under the direction of Superintendent Radiographers, develop departmental protocols. Ensure
compliance with protocols so that high departmental standards are met.
 Ensure safe patient care and welfare by experienced assessment and monitoring, sometimes in the
absence of supporting clinical information.
 Assess the ability of patients to undergo general examinations and highly skilled specialized
procedures, modifying techniques accordingly.
 Initiate basic life support when required.
 Manual handling of patients including the handling of spinally compromised patients, paediatric and
elderly patients.

achievable( ALARA ).
 Accurately complete patient and departmental documentation using computer systems, as
appropriate. In particular the recording of patient radiation dose levels and pregnancy status.
 Undertake digital image post-processing, including manipulation and archiving to enable accurate
presentation of patient data to enhance diagnosis, treatment and management.
 Obtain verbal informed consent for patients undergoing examination or treatment.
 Take professional responsibility for the safe preparation and use of highly specialized equipment;
therefore ensuring the safe use of radiation and high voltage equipment in the diagnosis and
treatment of patients.
