Thread Pool for Parallel Operations • New Essbase.cfg setting – WORKERTHREADS • Controls how many threads are available for: • Parallel calculation, with CALCPARALLEL or FIXPARALLEL • Parallel data load, for aggregate storage and block storage databases • Parallel export, for block storage databases • Parallel restructuring • Default setting is half of the SERVERTHREADS Essbase.cfg setting • Default SERVERTHREADS is 20 • Minimum value is 5, maximum is 2048 • These are advanced optimization settings, any changes to these settings should be tested thoroughly.
XML Outline Editing • Through the Essbase Java or C Main API, XML files may be exported from an Essbase database outline • The XMLs can be edited outside of EAS, then uploading using the Java or C Main API to make the changes to the .otl file • This method requires no dimension build rules file or calls to the Outline API • To use this feature with ASO outlines, the outline must be updated to the 11.1.2.4 version • Open and save the outline in 11.1.2.4 EAS • Use the C or Java APIs to update the version • BSO outlines may be edited using this feature without updating them first.

How to implement • To take advantage of Hybrid Aggregation • Add a parameter to the Essbase.cfg file to turn this feature on. • Take your sparse dimensions and mark upper-level members that calculate with outline operators as Dynamic Calc instead of Store • This will allow the dynamic aggregation to take place • May need to change dimension order and/or Sparse/Dense settings to ensure member formulas are calculated correctly

Not Supported for Hybrid Aggregation • Attribute calculations • Formulas with cross-dimensional operators • Dynamic Calc members with formulas that are a target of transparent partitions • Queries which include both two-pass and one-pass dynamic calc members from the same dimension • XOLAP • Can't use report scripts or dataexport to pull data from upper levels in Hybrid mode- have to use MDX • If a query mixes supported and unsupported hybrid mode calculation types, Essbase defaults to block storage execution.
