Baha Mar's All in Bet on Red: The Story of Integrating Data and Master Data w...Joseph Alaimo Jr
Baha Mar is the Bahamas' newest luxury resort, featuring world class hotels, restaurants, shopping, spas, a golf course, and a casino. Baha Mar has gone all in, betting big on red by adopting a Planning and Budget Cloud Service (PBCS), a Financial Close and Consolidation Cloud Service (FCCS), and an Account Reconciliation Cloud Service (ARCS). Within PBCS, Baha Mar has implemented daily operational reporting (DOR), which captures daily activity across the entire property.
This presentation explores how, and more importantly, why FDMEE (on-premises) was used in favor of cloud data management. It covers the myriad of disparate and highly specialized data sources needed to support loading detailed operational data on a daily basis. It studies the various methodologies used to streamline data integration and enrich the data load cycle.
Additionally, EDMCS and cloud data management were leveraged to reduce duplicate master data maintenance while sharing key findings about this exciting new cloud service.
SharePoint 2016 has evolved in capturing, storing and maintaining large volumes of data. The changes made and the new features list is quite vast; however here I explain some of them which can come handy for everyone.

SQL Saturday Columbus 2014 PowerBI with SQL Excel and SharePointScott_Brickey
SQL has always enabled business intelligence through databases and analysis services. But working with them has historically required a development team. Learn how Microsoft's new suite of BI tools for Excel and SharePoint can put the power of business intelligence back into the hands of your power users.
Discover 3 Scenarios to start with the SAP HANA solution.
With their latest database technology “High Performance Analytic Appliance” (HANA), SAP has revolutionized the database market by dramatically speeding up reports and transactions, fundamentally changing business processes. The solution, introduced for the first time in 2010, now serves as the foundation for applications running with higher performance – including SAP Finance (FI) and Controlling (CO).
We often hear that you should always have clustered indexes on your tables. What's left off of this discussion is the how to choose the columns for this index. Should it be the primary key? Or some other column or set of columns? Having the wrong key column(s) in the clustered index can lead to performance problems, possibly worse than having no clustered index on the table at all. In this session, we'll review common patterns for selecting clustered indexes and how to determine which pattern you need. Also, we'll look at how to analyze tables to help select the best clustered index for every table.

SQL Saturday Columbus 2014 Exposing SQL Data with SharePointScott_Brickey
You've got your data, but accessing it means using one application among dozens, which can be difficult for once-in-a-while users. Alternatively, you can make the data to SharePoint where it can be easily searched, related, and even (securely) exposed for integration via the SharePoint native OData, REST, and WCF interfaces.

Back to the Future - Oracle Essbase - Then and Now Joseph Alaimo Jr
Join Edgewater Ranzal for a whimsical look at the history of Oracle Essbase. Take a walk down memory lane to the days of Arbor Software, where all that was required was a “server under the desk”, and tools such as Application Manager and the Excel Add-In. We will show historical artifacts, and share examples of “alternative” applications from days gone by, in addition to the traditional triad of management reporting, planning and profitability analysis that so many of our customers leverage today. Come for a breakfast treat, take home a few souvenirs, and reminisce with like-minded peers regarding the amazing Essbase!
Epistemic Interaction - tuning interfaces to provide information for AI supportAlan Dix
Paper presented at SYNERGY workshop at AVI 2024, Genoa, Italy. 3rd June 2024
https://alandix.com/academic/papers/synergy2024-epistemic/
As machine learning integrates deeper into human-computer interactions, the concept of epistemic interaction emerges, aiming to refine these interactions to enhance system adaptability. This approach encourages minor, intentional adjustments in user behaviour to enrich the data available for system learning. This paper introduces epistemic interaction within the context of human-system communication, illustrating how deliberate interaction design can improve system understanding and adaptation. Through concrete examples, we demonstrate the potential of epistemic interaction to significantly advance human-computer interaction by leveraging intuitive human communication strategies to inform system design and functionality, offering a novel pathway for enriching user-system engagements.

Effective Application Security in Software Delivery lifecycle using Deployment Firewall and DBOM
The modern software delivery process (or the CI/CD process) includes many tools, distributed teams, open-source code, and cloud platforms. Constant focus on speed to release software to market, along with the traditional slow and manual security checks has caused gaps in continuous security as an important piece in the software supply chain. Today organizations feel more susceptible to external and internal cyber threats due to the vast attack surface in their applications supply chain and the lack of end-to-end governance and risk management.
The software team must secure its software delivery process to avoid vulnerability and security breaches. This needs to be achieved with existing tool chains and without extensive rework of the delivery processes. This talk will present strategies and techniques for providing visibility into the true risk of the existing vulnerabilities, preventing the introduction of security issues in the software, resolving vulnerabilities in production environments quickly, and capturing the deployment bill of materials (DBOM).
Speakers:
Bob Boule
Robert Boule is a technology enthusiast with PASSION for technology and making things work along with a knack for helping others understand how things work. He comes with around 20 years of solution engineering experience in application security, software continuous delivery, and SaaS platforms. He is known for his dynamic presentations in CI/CD and application security integrated in software delivery lifecycle.
Gopinath Rebala
Gopinath Rebala is the CTO of OpsMx, where he has overall responsibility for the machine learning and data processing architectures for Secure Software Delivery. Gopi also has a strong connection with our customers, leading design and architecture for strategic implementations. Gopi is a frequent speaker and well-known leader in continuous delivery and integrating security into software delivery.
Removing Uninteresting Bytes in Software FuzzingAftab Hussain
Imagine a world where software fuzzing, the process of mutating bytes in test seeds to uncover hidden and erroneous program behaviors, becomes faster and more effective. A lot depends on the initial seeds, which can significantly dictate the trajectory of a fuzzing campaign, particularly in terms of how long it takes to uncover interesting behaviour in your code. We introduce DIAR, a technique designed to speedup fuzzing campaigns by pinpointing and eliminating those uninteresting bytes in the seeds. Picture this: instead of wasting valuable resources on meaningless mutations in large, bloated seeds, DIAR removes the unnecessary bytes, streamlining the entire process.
In this work, we equipped AFL, a popular fuzzer, with DIAR and examined two critical Linux libraries -- Libxml's xmllint, a tool for parsing xml documents, and Binutil's readelf, an essential debugging and security analysis command-line tool used to display detailed information about ELF (Executable and Linkable Format). Our preliminary results show that AFL+DIAR does not only discover new paths more quickly but also achieves higher coverage overall. This work thus showcases how starting with lean and optimized seeds can lead to faster, more comprehensive fuzzing campaigns -- and DIAR helps you find such seeds.

• Support for POV and Pivot enhancements in Smart View 11.1.2.5.400
• Calculation enhancements
• Essbase.cfg Changes
• MaxL grammar changes
• Deprecated/desupported options
51. Thread Pool for Parallel Operations
• New Essbase.cfg setting – WORKERTHREADS
• Controls how many threads are available for:
• Parallel calculation, with CALCPARALLEL or FIXPARALLEL
• Parallel data load, for aggregate storage and block storage databases
• Parallel export, for block storage databases
• Parallel restructuring
• Default setting is half of the SERVERTHREADS Essbase.cfg setting
• Default SERVERTHREADS is 20
• Minimum value is 5, maximum is 2048
• These are advanced optimization settings, any changes to these settings
should be tested thoroughly.
52. XML Outline Editing
• Through the Essbase Java or C Main API, XML files may be exported
from an Essbase database outline
• The XMLs can be edited outside of EAS, then uploading using the
Java or C Main API to make the changes to the .otl file
• This method requires no dimension build rules file or calls to the Outline
API
• To use this feature with ASO outlines, the outline must be updated to
the 11.1.2.4 version
• Open and save the outline in 11.1.2.4 EAS
• Use the C or Java APIs to update the version
• BSO outlines may be edited using this feature without updating them
first.
53. Enhancements to Hybrid Aggregation
• Hybrid Aggregation is the
biggest thing for Essbase since
version 7 when ASO was
introduced.
• Hybrid Aggregation ripe for use in
all types of traditional BSO
applications
• Applies to Planning BSO plan
types as well
• Great way to get around the
limitation on ASO plan types for
EPMA-deployed Planning apps
54. Enhancements to Hybrid Aggregation, cont.
• Hybrid aggregation was introduced in
11.1.2.3.500
• Dynamically aggregates Sparse dimensions
like ASO
• New for 11.1.2.4:
• Time-balance functionality supported
• Dynamic Time Series members supported
• Many calculator functions now supported
• If a function is not supported by Hybrid
Aggregation, Essbase will default to block
storage execution for that formula.
55. Folder Structure for Hybrid cubes
• ASO folder structure is added
• Default
• Log
• Metadata
• Temp
• Folders are removed when database is stopped
• To change the location of the directories, edit the following setting in
essbase.cfg:
ASODYNAMICAGGINBSOFOLDERPATH [appName] path-to-
directory
56. How to implement
• To take advantage of Hybrid Aggregation
• Add a parameter to the Essbase.cfg file to turn this feature on.
• Take your sparse dimensions and mark upper-level members that
calculate with outline operators as Dynamic Calc instead of Store
• This will allow the dynamic aggregation to take place
• May need to change dimension order and/or Sparse/Dense settings to
ensure member formulas are calculated correctly
57. ASODYNAMICAGGINBSO Config setting
Setting Result
ASODYNAMICAGGINBSO NONE Turn off Hybrid for all BSO databases, except
where overridden
ASODYNAMICAGGINBSO FULL Turn on Hybrid for all BSO databases, even
when not specified
ASODYNAMICAGGINBSO Sample NONE Turn off Hybrid for the Sample application,
even if ASODYNAMICAGGINBSO FULL is
specified
ASODYNAMICAGGINBSO PARTIAL Behavior as FULL
60. Not Supported for Hybrid Aggregation
• Attribute calculations
• Formulas with cross-dimensional operators
• Dynamic Calc members with formulas that are a target of transparent
partitions
• Queries which include both two-pass and one-pass dynamic calc
members from the same dimension
• XOLAP
• Can't use report scripts or dataexport to pull data from upper levels in
Hybrid mode- have to use MDX
• If a query mixes supported and unsupported hybrid mode calculation
types, Essbase defaults to block storage execution.
61. Exalytics Optimizations
• Additional tuning added to increase performance on Exalytics servers
• An increase virtual memory usage is expected
• Virtual memory usage is increased by the size of the page files
62. POV and Pivot Enhancements for Smart View 11.1.2.5.400
• Smart View 11.1.2.5.400
• Multiple members can be pivoted
from the grid to the POV toolbar
• Multiple members can be pivoted
from the POV toolbar to the grid
• A single dimension can remain in
the POV toolbar
• Prior releases allowed only one
member to be pivoted between
the POV and grid. Also needed at
least two dimensions in the POV.
63. Calculation Enhancements
• @RELXRANGE
• New function that returns a cross dimensional list based on the relative
position of the cell that is currently being calculated and the offsets
• More support for the XrangeList parameter
• Now supported in 27 functions
• XrangeList logically combines members at the same level from two or more
dimensions
• Helps to traverse separate year and period dimensions as if they were one
continuous list of members
• @XRANGE (Actual->Jan, Budget->Mar)
64. Essbase.cfg Changes
• New Configuration Settings
• WORKERTHREADS – covered earlier
• Defines the number of threads available for parallel operations
• CRASHDUMPLOCATION
• When CRASHDUMP is enabled, this setting provides the location where
the core dump files should be saved.
• Core dump differs from an .xcp file
• CONNECTIONTIMEOUT
• Maximum time Essbase should wait for a SQL connection before timing
out
• QUERYTIMEOUT
• Maximum time Essbase should wait for a SQL query before timing out
65. MaxL Grammar Change
• Export data now offers an
anonymous export option
• export database <dbsname>
all data anonymous…
• Allows customers with sensitive
data the ability to provide copies
of their data to Oracle Support or
partners like interRel without the
fear of data disclosure.
• Each data cell in the block is
replaced with an iterated number.
66. Features No Longer Supported
• Essbase Native Security Mode
• Essbase Native Security is the non-Shared Services mode, managed in EAS
• Pre-System 9 method of administering users and groups
• This is not Shared Services Native Users or Groups
• Essbase Integration Services
• Same functionality available in Essbase Studio
• Visual Basic API for Essbase
• Oracle recommends using the Java APIs or the Essbase C APIs
• Essbase.cfg Settings
• PRELOADALIASNAMESPACE
• PRELOADMEMBERNAMESPACE
• PRELOADUDANAMESPACE
• MAXACTIVEUPDATETRANSACTIONS
• MAXTOTALACTIVETRANSACTIONS
67. Featured Deprecated
