A political constitution establishes checks on executive power through the legislature. Forms of government include authoritarianism, where non-elected rulers permit some individual freedom, anarchy which is a state of lawlessness without a supreme power, and anarchism which favors a stateless society without unnecessary government. Democracy is a form of government where people rule directly or through elected representatives based on principles of equality and freedom. A state is a set of institutions that govern people within a territory and have internal and external sovereignty.

It can be constrasted to a legal constitution, where it is the judiciary which provides the greater checks upon government.In many countries both political and legal checks will be used to control the government.

Anarchism: Anarchism is a political philosophy encompassing theories and attitudes which consider the state to be unnecessary, harmful, or otherwise undesirable, and favor instead a stateless society or anarchy. Individual anarchists may have additional criteria for what they conceive to be anarchism, and there is often broad disagreement concerning these broader conceptions.

Even though there is no specific, universally accepted definition of 'democracy', there are two principles that any definition of democracy includes, equality and freedom.

State:Whatis a State?A state is a set of institutions that possess the authority to make the rules that govern the people in one or more societies, having internal and external sovereignty over a definite territory. state also refers to political units, not sovereign themselves, but subject to the authority of the larger state, or federal union. Within a monarchy, two or more states may share personal union under the same monarch, but retain an individual identity, even unto a separate legislature and/or government.
