SAVE THIS PAPER!!!!! Mr. Salway

                Presenting Your…….
        Curr e n t Ev e n t
Your task:
You need to find an article on a current event. You must be able to explain
what has happened in your article, so do not pick an article that you do not
understand. You can get help from myself, or another adult to help further
explain the article to you, but your writing and presentation must be your
own. Also, do not forget that you will be explaining your article to other
students, so you must explain it in a way that your fellow classmates
understand it, so if you are using big words, be able to explain them!
To review your task:
   1. Find an article that you understand and interests you
   2. Read it multiple times, go above and beyond, find more information
      on the topic!
   3. Write a page summary of the article
          The summary must include:
          a. What the article is about
          b. Why it is important
          c. What other information you found about the topic
          d. Why you feel it is interesting/ why you picked it
          e. Any other comments or future predictions to the outcome of
             your event
   4. Present your article to the class
          a. You must be able to do this without reading off of a paper! You
can use a note card with a few words on it, but you should
really understand this article and be able to talk about it as if it
were a movie you just watched that you loved and you want to
tell friends what it is about
          b. You need to include the topics that were listed in your one page
             summary
          c. Make eye contact
          d. Sound interested in the topic and explain your future
             predictions
          e. Enjoy this!
   5. Bring the article with you and hand it in with your writing.
Topics:
International news: news involving the United States and another country,
or a major event happening in a different country.

Economy: Anything to do with money and the U.S. Something from a
business section of a paper will work. An example might be the housing
market, oil prices, stock market or anything involving spending, investing
and or exchanging of money. $$$$$$

Government: Elections, polls, news on the president or other officials

Health/ Education/ Technology: New research on health, technology or
new actions or information on education will be good topics.

Science/ Environment: Finding articles on how science is changing the
world and how the environment is changing are possible topics.

There will be 4 people presenting topics each week, one person on each
topic. Mr. Salway will be assigning topics to everyone, and don’t worry you
will all get a chance to present on all the topics!

                                  Grading
You will be grading half on your writing and half of your grade will be on
your presentation.
A good written report will:
   • Be the proper length
   • Cover all the topics required
   • Show a true understanding of the article
o You can do this by putting the article in your own words
o Comparing it to something you are familiar with
o Making intelligent insights on the importance and future
            importance of your article
A good oral presentation will include:
   • Eye contact and being loud and clear (articulate)
   • Interest in the topic
   • Clear understanding and able to explain the article so your fellow
      classmates understand it
   • Minimal use of notes
   • NO READING OFF A PAPER
