Culture shock results from the stress of living in a new culture with differences in language, food, customs, and more. There are typical stages of culture shock such as a honeymoon phase, homesickness, depression, anger, and eventual acceptance of the new culture. Common symptoms include frustration, fatigue, disorientation, boredom, and physical problems like headaches or stomachaches. Both obvious differences like language, climate, and religion, as well as less obvious differences such as how people relate to teachers, make decisions, and express feelings can contribute to culture shock.
