Creating Customer Value Through Social MediaPaul McAdam
As the most-popular online activity, social media represents a fundamental shift in the way people communicate with each other and with businesses. The gateway into social media conversations via corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives represents a relatively low-risk usage of social media by financial institutions. However, financial institutions are now borrowing from the pages of companies in other industries, as well as leveraging their core competencies, to accomplish objectives beyond gaining attention and brand-building that CSR initiatives address.

Grant Trends and Common Mistakes: Make Your 2019 Applications Shine!TechSoup
It is not radical to say that grantseeking is a competitive process. As pools of eligible funds continue to shrink and those in need continue to grow, it is difficult for nonprofit organizations to keep their heads above water. This free webinar is here to help!
We will review trends in what funders are looking for in grant applications so that you can create the strongest applications possible. In addition, we will identify common mistakes and suggest solutions and resources to help you avoid these pitfalls. We will have plenty of time for live questions and answers, so be prepared to bring your biggest concerns for discussion.
Group Fundraising 101: From Benchmarks to Success Stories (revised)peterdeitz
Slides from my NTEN webinar on October 11, 2007:
In this repeat webinar, non-profit consultant Peter Deitz will present his original benchmark figures for group fundraising as well as new research on the effective use of Facebook applications for distributed fundraising campaigns. Published in June on TechSoup, the benchmark figures were derived from the internal statistics of five leading services (ChipIn, Firstgiving, GiveMeaning, SixDegrees, and JustGive.org).
This webinar explains how nonprofits can use the benchmark figures to integrate group fundraising into larger annual or capital campaigns. The webinar will also feature current success stories of non-profits using group fundraising and Facebook to reach new donors while deepening their relationships with existing supporters. The Facebook applications discussed in this webinar include: Causes, ChipIn, Fundraising, and Change.org.
If you didn’t raise a million dollars through Twitter or Facebook in 2010, you’re not alone. Unlike the wide-eyed success stories reported by mainstream media, many charities struggle to raise significant revenue from social media channels.
In this workshop, we’ll take a “no bull” approach to examining the use of social media & mobile giving in integrated digital campaigns. We’ll learn from successes but even more from failures, looking at the latest case studies from projects that are experimenting in this space.
Let’s get real – social media is only one complementary channel for your online programs. Do you know how to really leverage your resources, staff knowledge and most importantly – fundraising strategies – to get the benefits of the real-time web? If you feel chasing after “awareness” is not enough, join this session for a grounded guide to social media fundraising, by a fundraiser, for fundraisers.
Takeaways:
- The characteristics of successful fundraisers involving social media
- The digital literacy skills necessary to make wise choices about investment in social media
- An introduction to the latest tools charities are experimenting with this to raise money this year
You’ve probably heard about Open Data and Open Government. But have you ever considered the radical idea of Open Philanthropy? What would happen if you applied the principles of open data to philanthropic institutions such as foundations, funders and grant-makers?
In this session you’ll be introduced to three open data initiatives that are doing just that.
Join Jake Hirsch-Allen (Partner, Functional Imperative & Lighthouse Labs) Michael Lenczner (CEO, Ajah and Director, Powered By Data) and Gena Rotstein (CEO and Advisor in Philanthropy - Dexterity Ventures Inc./Place2Give) for an interactive showcase that will answer this question and unpack the benefits of Open Philanthropy for grantmakers, community organizations and donors.
Using charity sector data, can we build more sustainable communities and use market forces to drive social change?
This presentation was given as part of a panel at CKX.org Nov. 2014. Also on the panel - AJAH and FLUXX

Epistemic Interaction - tuning interfaces to provide information for AI supportAlan Dix
Paper presented at SYNERGY workshop at AVI 2024, Genoa, Italy. 3rd June 2024
https://alandix.com/academic/papers/synergy2024-epistemic/
As machine learning integrates deeper into human-computer interactions, the concept of epistemic interaction emerges, aiming to refine these interactions to enhance system adaptability. This approach encourages minor, intentional adjustments in user behaviour to enrich the data available for system learning. This paper introduces epistemic interaction within the context of human-system communication, illustrating how deliberate interaction design can improve system understanding and adaptation. Through concrete examples, we demonstrate the potential of epistemic interaction to significantly advance human-computer interaction by leveraging intuitive human communication strategies to inform system design and functionality, offering a novel pathway for enriching user-system engagements.

Kubernetes & AI - Beauty and the Beast !?! @KCD Istanbul 2024Tobias Schneck
As AI technology is pushing into IT I was wondering myself, as an “infrastructure container kubernetes guy”, how get this fancy AI technology get managed from an infrastructure operational view? Is it possible to apply our lovely cloud native principals as well? What benefit’s both technologies could bring to each other?
Let me take this questions and provide you a short journey through existing deployment models and use cases for AI software. On practical examples, we discuss what cloud/on-premise strategy we may need for applying it to our own infrastructure to get it to work from an enterprise perspective. I want to give an overview about infrastructure requirements and technologies, what could be beneficial or limiting your AI use cases in an enterprise environment. An interactive Demo will give you some insides, what approaches I got already working for real.
Search and Society: Reimagining Information Access for Radical FuturesBhaskar Mitra
The field of Information retrieval (IR) is currently undergoing a transformative shift, at least partly due to the emerging applications of generative AI to information access. In this talk, we will deliberate on the sociotechnical implications of generative AI for information access. We will argue that there is both a critical necessity and an exciting opportunity for the IR community to re-center our research agendas on societal needs while dismantling the artificial separation between the work on fairness, accountability, transparency, and ethics in IR and the rest of IR research. Instead of adopting a reactionary strategy of trying to mitigate potential social harms from emerging technologies, the community should aim to proactively set the research agenda for the kinds of systems we should build inspired by diverse explicitly stated sociotechnical imaginaries. The sociotechnical imaginaries that underpin the design and development of information access technologies needs to be explicitly articulated, and we need to develop theories of change in context of these diverse perspectives. Our guiding future imaginaries must be informed by other academic fields, such as democratic theory and critical theory, and should be co-developed with social science scholars, legal scholars, civil rights and social justice activists, and artists, among others.
