select a subject area of clustered courses, along with peers who have similar
interests. The Freshman Learning Community program offers guaranteed courses
you need to meet major prerequisites and graduation requirements.
Courses are grouped thematically in the Humanities, Natural Sciences, or Social
Sciences. This innovative program helps students to:

develop superior writing and communication skills, and
graduate reliably in four years.
Recreation and Wellness Center
Opening in early 2011, the new 54,000-square-foot Recreation and Wellness Center
is located directly across from Pioneer Heights student housing. The new state of the
art facility houses a multi-court gymnasium; elevated jogging track; fitness center;
multipurpose fitness and activity rooms for aerobics, martial arts and dancing; locker
rooms; juice bar; and administrative offices. Intramural sports such as basketball,
volleyball and badminton, as well as fitness programs such as weight training, with
free weights and weight machines are offered at the center.
Current CSUEB students paying the University Union Recreation student fee will
have free membership to RAW for each relevant quarter. CSUEB Faculty, Staff,
Alumni, Emeritus, and Retirees are all eligible for a membership with the quarterly
fee.

For lectures and concerts, you'll find world-class musicians, speakers and
entertainment on campus. In recent years, the University has welcomed
engaging speakers, famous alumni and celebrity personalities.
