Workshop
On the weekend of October 8th-9th, twenty-seven scholars had the opportunity to take part of the Road to
College Southern California trip sponsored by J.P. Morgan. Scholars had the opportunity to visit the following
six college campuses in Southern California: San Diego State University, University of San Diego, UC San Diego,
Pomona College, Harvey Mudd College, and the University of La Verne.
During each campus visit the scholars had the opportunity to take a
campus tour where they observed different buildings and learned about
the different programs each campus offers. Scholars also met with cur-
rent students who are part of different organizations on campus and
spoke to the scholars about their college experiences.
Overall it was a great weekend full of lots of important information
about each college. Scholars please visit their website in order to learn
more about the colleges we visited during this weekend.

This trip was full of adventures and experiences that taught each
scholar something new about themselves and everyone else. Please

weekend and apply it to your everyday life journeys.
Independent / Privat e School Syst em Workshop 10/ 22/ 2011
On Saturday Oct. 22, 2011, twenty-eight scholars took part of the Independent/Private School System work-
shop provided by Erica Rosales. During this workshop the scholars were able to learn about the different re-
quirements for private schools, different private school campuses, popular majors, and also private schools in
other states. Scholars were also able to ask various questions about private school college settings, classroom
size, and the difference in a private school vs. a public school education.
Scholars please keep in mind the following recommendations Erica provided:
Get to know your College Center and College Counselors at your High Schools.
Begin requesting and emailing college admissions officers to let them know your interested in their campus.
Start keeping a journal to help you write your personal statement during your senior year.
