LESSON 1
APPLYING QUALITY STANDARDS (AQS)
COMPUTER SYSTEMS SERVICING
LESSON
OBJECTIVES
1. Assess quality of received
materials (TLE_IACSS9-12AQS-Ia-1)
3. Engage in quality improvement
(TLE_IACSS9-12AQS-Ic-3)
At the end of our lesson,
you are expected to…
2. Assess own work (TLE_IACSS9-
12AQS-Ib-2)
Apply Quality Standards
This lesson covers the knowledge, skills, attitudes
and values needed to apply quality standards in
the workplace. The lesson also includes the

What are Quality Standards?
Quality standards are defined as documents that
provide requirements, specifications, guidelines,
or characteristics that can be used consistently to
ensure that materials, products, processes, and
services are fit for their purpose.

Who uses Quality Standards?
•Satisfying their customers’ quality requirements
•Ensuring their products and services are safe
•Complying with regulations
•Meeting environmental objectives
•Protecting products against climatic or other
adverse conditions.

Assess Quality of Received Materials
• Selection of Material
• Testing of Material
• Cost of Material
Computer Systems Servicing NC II, Quarter I
1. Selection of Materials
● It is a step in the process of designing any physical object. In
the context of product design, the main goal of material
selection is to minimize cost while meeting product
performance goals.
● Material selection is one of the most common task for design
engineering. The ability to assess the material’s impact on
the performance of a product is crucial for reliable
performance.

Examples
● HP, Epson, and Canon brand for printer.
● Intel or AMD for microprocessor device.
● Asus for motherboard
● Nvidia Geforce for video cards

2. Testing of Materials
Computer Systems Servicing NC II, Quarter I
● It is the determination of the technological and operational
properties of materials, primarily using machines and
instruments.
● Obtaining data for project, performing failure analysis, or
understanding material interactions.
● Material testing also provides information on the quality of
incoming and outgoing products.
3. Cost of Materials
Computer Systems Servicing NC II, Quarter I
● The cost of material is also considered
when buying or selecting materials for a
specific project. The amount may vary but
never taken for granted the quality and
the reliability of the material.
Questions to ask to consider..
1. Will you buy material which is less expensive
but worst quality?
2. Will you buy material which you cannot afford?
3. Will you buy materials without warranty?
Computer Systems Servicing NC II, Quarter I
Characteristics of the Materials
1. Good Quality – the most important factor.
2. Reliable – it will perform its function well.
3. Suitability – materials that are necessary
4. Low cost – afford to buy and assure better
quality.
