L&T was founded in 1938 by two Danish engineers in India and contributed to India's development, including support during World War 2. It has focused its CSR efforts on poverty alleviation, education, health, gender equity, and the environment. In recent years it has spent around 2% of average net profit on CSR initiatives targeting these areas as well as COVID-19 relief. These initiatives include early childhood education, health centers, and maternal health programs. The report recommends L&T increase awareness of its large-scale philanthropic work.
