FSD envisions a world where all people have the opportunity and capacity to direct economic, social, and environmental resources toward sustainable outcomes that improve lives and communities.
Our mission is to achieve community-driven goals through asset-based development and international exchange in Africa, Asia, and Latin America.
FSD has been described as the “gold standard for global engagement programs.” We offer student internships, volunteer global service trips, and group programs, providing intensive pre-departure and in-country support. Programs include rigorous development theory and practical training, continuing educational and cultural activities, personal and group reflection sessions, and accommodation and transportation support. Our dedicated teams at each site are available 24/7 to guide you with cross-cultural, development and safety & security support.
Our program sites are in six countries and 10 cities, where for almost two decades we have supported more than 300 community partner organizations and trained more than 3,000 volunteers. Our community development efforts have maintained an ongoing project sustainability rate of nearly 80 percent, addressing health, social, environmental, and economic issues by responding to community priorities and offering training, grants, and volunteer support to our community partners.
Annually we support more than 200 projects and invest more than $800,000 in our partner communities, and our work directly impacts the lives of (on average) 150,000 people around the world. From a women’s beekeeping business in Kenya to nutritional education for mothers in Nicaragua and cook stove projects in India, FSD listens to community priorities and supports local leaders to achieve their vision for a better future.
We know from our experience that this development approach provides stronger social returns for our communities – find out more at fsdinternational.org. We invite you to continue to join us in our investment of affecting long-term, sustainable change to better the lives of the people we serve abroad.

“AAs” was initiated by seven like-minded youths who came together to spread awareness towards diverse social problems. In the year 2003 they formed a group which initiated many social activities for spreading awareness on different social issues like HIV/AIDS, STI, drug de-addiction, blood donation, water & sanitation etc.
On 05-05-2005, this informal group registered itself as a formal organization under Madhya Pradesh Societies Registration Act with name “AAs – Aim for the Awareness of society”. (Registration No: 03/27/3/0431/05)

It is the endeavour of AAS to serve the society and make it more capable to face challenges of deprived groups especially women and children. Presently the organization is working for the women empowerment and child Protection through its various projects. In addition to this AAs has also been involved in various research assignments in Indore city such as traffic volume count, informal water market research, community context analysis etc. While most of the NGO’s activities have taken place within the district of Indore, Madhya Pradesh, it aspires to achieve a national footprint in the coming years.

Business Valuation Principles for EntrepreneursBen Wann
This insightful presentation is designed to equip entrepreneurs with the essential knowledge and tools needed to accurately value their businesses. Understanding business valuation is crucial for making informed decisions, whether you're seeking investment, planning to sell, or simply want to gauge your company's worth.
Implicitly or explicitly all competing businesses employ a strategy to select a mix
of marketing resources. Formulating such competitive strategies fundamentally
involves recognizing relationships between elements of the marketing mix (e.g.,
price and product quality), as well as assessing competitive and market conditions
(i.e., industry structure in the language of economics).

Enterprise Excellence is Inclusive Excellence.pdfKaiNexus
Enterprise excellence and inclusive excellence are closely linked, and real-world challenges have shown that both are essential to the success of any organization. To achieve enterprise excellence, organizations must focus on improving their operations and processes while creating an inclusive environment that engages everyone. In this interactive session, the facilitator will highlight commonly established business practices and how they limit our ability to engage everyone every day. More importantly, though, participants will likely gain increased awareness of what we can do differently to maximize enterprise excellence through deliberate inclusion.
What is Enterprise Excellence?
Enterprise Excellence is a holistic approach that's aimed at achieving world-class performance across all aspects of the organization.
What might I learn?
A way to engage all in creating Inclusive Excellence. Lessons from the US military and their parallels to the story of Harry Potter. How belt systems and CI teams can destroy inclusive practices. How leadership language invites people to the party. There are three things leaders can do to engage everyone every day: maximizing psychological safety to create environments where folks learn, contribute, and challenge the status quo.
Who might benefit? Anyone and everyone leading folks from the shop floor to top floor.

Putting the SPARK into Virtual Training.pptxCynthia Clay
This 60-minute webinar, sponsored by Adobe, was delivered for the Training Mag Network. It explored the five elements of SPARK: Storytelling, Purpose, Action, Relationships, and Kudos. Knowing how to tell a well-structured story is key to building long-term memory. Stating a clear purpose that doesn't take away from the discovery learning process is critical. Ensuring that people move from theory to practical application is imperative. Creating strong social learning is the key to commitment and engagement. Validating and affirming participants' comments is the way to create a positive learning environment.

India’s Sanitation Crisis
Lack of adequate sanitation is a huge
problem in India. 626 million Indians live
without access to safe sanitation, making
India the country with most people living
without toilets in the world.
This leads to problems spanning health,
economics, human rights, & the environ-
ment
Human Impact
More than 1,000 children die from prevent-
able diarrhoea every day.
Shame and lack of dignity is a constant com-
panion as people are forced to defecate in
full view of others.
Women suffer from reproductive tract infec-
tions due to poor hygiene
Human rights abuses are a common occur-
rence as women are often molested or raped
as they are forced to use isolated locations
for open-defecation.
443 million school days are lost each year
due to water-related diseases.
Economic Impact
India loses approximately USD 53.8 billion
(>6.4% of India’s GDP) due to increased
health costs, productivity losses, and reduced
tourism revenue due to inadequate sanitation
and poor hygiene.
Halving the proportion of those globally
without access to safe drinking water and
adequate sanitation by 2015 is estimated to
result in 272 million more school attendance
days a year.
The value of deaths averted, based on dis-
counted future earnings, would amount to
US$3.6 billion a year.
For every $1 invested in water and sanitation,
$8 is returned in increased productivity.
3.5% of all work time is lost due to sanitation

moting sanitation and hygiene in India and Africa.
5. WASH Fellowship Program Page 5WASH Fellowship Program Page 5
The Yatra was a particular resonant format because it
built upon all the things Indians are really passionate and
excited about – Bollywood song and dance, popular TV
formats, but above all India’s favorite sport cricket – and
used them to tackle persisting taboos related to sanita-
tion and hygiene and charged these issues with positive
emotions.
The Yatra benefited immensely from having 7 extremely
talented Fellows with diverse backgrounds such as cho-
reography, professional filmmaking, & photography from
India, Germany, the US, & the UK. See details of the Fel-
lowship here: After the immense success of this first
Fellowship program, we are now launching WASH United
Fellows Program Edition 2.
Nirmal Bharat Yatra nirmalbharatyatra.org
WASH United in India recently conducted the Nirmal Bharat Yatra
(The Great WASH Yatra : www.nirmalbharatyatra.org / www.
facebook.com/TheGreatWashYatra), a mega sanitation-themed
carnival that featured unique games, performances, & labs. The
Yatra was a mammoth undertaking traveling 2000 Km across
rural India over 50 days and reached 230 million people with mes-
sages of sanitation and hygiene.
The Nirmal Bharat Yatra had three key goals: 1) promote life-
saving toilet adoption + handwashing with soap behaviour among
at-risk children, youth, & adults; 2) raise awareness about sani-
tation & hygiene amongst rural & urban populations by getting
exciting, positive stories about sanitation and hygiene in mass
media; & 3) advocate for improvements in sanitation and hygiene
IEC programs among key stakeholders in the government, media,
& other sector organizations. .

The program also pays for a roundtrip ticket for candi-
dates willing to commit to an engagement of 6 months
or more.
During the Fellowship, Fellows will work on 2-3 projects
specially structured projects. The fellow projects will
centered around the creation of extremely high quality
content for WASH United’s sanitation/hygiene based
advocacy (see below for specific project possibilities)
for 20 days of a month. The fellows are free to use the
remaining time at their discretion.
These projects will be designed carefully so as to bal-
ance WASH United’s strategic objectives and ensuring
creative challenge for the Fellows.

Nirmal Gram Mela
After the success of the Nirmal Bharat Yatra across 6 states, WASH United is
designing new carnivals filled with games & performances that communicate
messages of sanitation and hygiene to specific states within India and to
remote villages.
WASH United will launch these carnivals and journeys in partnership with
Indian states and our partners. Our team of Fellows will be involved in
creating compelling content for this project through film, photography, &
design (of games + communication materials).
Depending on interest, the Fellows will also get the chance to travel
thousands of kilometers across rural India in caravans spreading messages of
hygiene and health.
WASHDog
At WASH United India, we believe that generating demand for sanitation
and hygiene through behavior change communication is hugely important in
addressing India’s growing WASH crisis. In this context, it is shocking that only
about 35% of the budgets allocated to Governments sanitation Information,
Education, and Communication (IEC) campaigns actually gets spent.
As a result, hundreds of millions of people who could have been taught the
benefits of good sanitation and hygiene remain uneducated and trapped in
unsafe WASH behavior leading to myriad adverse health, human rights, and
macro- and micro-economic impacts.
WASH United is launching “WASHDog” as an independent program within
the media and advocacy pillar of our four pillared strategy which also
comprises of content, content delivery, and research/evaluation. Through
this program we hope to positively influence both the quantity and quality of
demand generation and awareness campaigns for WASH that are run by the
Government of India’s Total Sanitation Campaign.
Fellows will play a critical role in the following projects
10. WASH Fellowship Program Page 10
Common Light
Common Light is a non-profit project that partners with photography & film
enthusiasts to capture image & film footage of important social issues. This
footage is then made available under a Creative Commons License for use
by non-profits & media globally to address these social issues. The program
is run through specially curated field trips organized by experts in the sector.
The collected material will then be made available to NGO’s, stakeholders,
and individuals who can’t afford hiring professionals to collect such material.
Field trips have taken place by now in both urban slums and rural
environments. Fellows will have the chance to be part of and give shape to
Common Light field trips, communication materials, & outreach efforts.
Loo Tunes
WASH United is commissioning leading Indian and international musicians
to compose songs for a music repository (to be called Loo Tunes), which will
be used to generate awareness about the sanitation crisis in India & abroad.
The repository is being launched to reach out and create awareness amongst
a growing urban population and to recruit volunteers and to raise support
for sanitation and hygiene innovation within India. The program has already
recruited recognized Indian bands such as Indian Ocean and Rabbi Shergill
and is going to grow exponentially in the next year with more international
acts being signed up.
Our team of Fellows will be involved in creating compelling content for this
project through film, photography, & design. We are envisioning things such
as behind the scenes footage of music recordings, interviews with artists on
the power of music for social change, and creating audio-visual materials
for a viral marketing campaign for this project. Depending on interest, the
Fellows will also get the chance to be involved in the campaign launch in
multiple countries.

WASH For India - Volunteer Program
Thousands of passionate and motivated individuals across the world look for
an opportunity & get onboard to tackle India’s sanitation crisis. WASH-For-
India will be a mass movement that enrolls Indians, Non-Resident Indians,
students in the US & UK, & international tourists in raising awareness,
enabling behavior change, & raising resources.
Design Lab
The creative heart of WASH United. Multi-disciplinary teams comprising of
game designers, communication designers, behavioral researchers, engineers,
technologists, anthropologists, educators, filmmakers, & photographers work
together to design games, performances, & communication materials.
Fellows can also play a critical role in the following projects
The Poolitzer Prize
Making sanitation and hygiene household topics. Toilets, shit, & poop are
considered “dirty” and “taboo”. They are underreported in media leading to
a lack of political will and overall awareness. WASH United’s Poolitzer Prize
will incentivize more and better coverage of sanitation and hygiene. Tens of
millions more people will be reached out every year through this incremental
coverage.
WASH In Schools Program
Thousands of passionate and motivated individuals across the world look for
an opportunity & get onboard to tackle India’s sanitation crisis. WASH-For-
India will be a mass movement that enrolls Indians, Non-Resident Indians,
students in the US & UK, & international tourists in raising awareness,
enabling behavior change, & raising resources.

Why Apply
High Impact Social Innovation: Fellowship projects that are extremely well designed so as to provide maximum impact and learning
opportunities. The Fellowships will have clear goals or problem statements, adequate resources, mentoring and regular feedback, and a dynamic
working environment.
Access To The Social Innovation Network In Delhi: If one might say that Bangalore or Gurgaon is the “tech hub” of India, then Delhi is
rapidly becoming India’s creative hub for designers, programmers, filmmakers, and social entrepreneurs. This is a wonderful opportunity to
become part of this growing community.
Living In A New City / Country: For those not from Delhi, and especially for those not from India, this Fellowship provides the chance of a
lifetime to live and work in this city, while not having to worry about living expenses and searching for rooms and roommates. You’ll have at least
two other fellows with you through this whole process, too!
Independence To Pursue Interests Outside The Fellowship: We recognize that most of us want to set aside some time to pursue
our interests or just explore a new environment, in addition to planned work. There will be room for such opportunities, we will open all our
networks to the fellows and will provide them with contacts to explore opportunities across sectors.

Wordpress Developer Fellowship
WASH Fellowship Program Page 14
Description: Responsibilities:
Its no secret that the internet is an incredibly powerful tool for
social good. Via the internet, humankind has been quickly filling
in the gaps between people all around the globe, and through
that process of connection we are learning just how much we can
help each other. In that spirit, this fellowship has been designed
for a computer lover, dreamer, and Wordpress expert who has a
strong desire to apply his or her skills to the activation of innova-
tive and high-impact campaigns which will help those who lack
basic human rights like access to a toilet.
Without engaging and visually compelling web presence, the
programs detailed earlier in this brochure will struggle, or fail, to
reach their potential for transforming India’s sanitation and
hygiene crisis. Imagine: through what other medium would we
be able to get soccer moms in the USA to adopt a team in our
slum soccer league? Or to get young professionals to sign up for
our WASH certification service for maids? Or hold the government
accountable to the $450 million it fails to spend on hygiene
education each year?
As the Wordpress Developer Fellow, you’ll join our writers and
graphic designers and innovation experts to ideate, design and
launch websites which will see high amounts of traffic from a
global audience. This is not for the weak of heart.
At first, you’ll need to:
- Understand WASH United’s mission, operating structure, and
most importantly, our target audiences. Some websites will be
geared towards users in India, and others will cater to a more
global audience. Some will be used by WASH sector professionals,
and other by minimally literate users. You’ll need to be an open-
minded fast learner.
- Take part in, and eventually lead, the brainstorming and iterative
processes that will lead to wireframes and website design
- Become familiar with how web design is used in the non-profit
landscape, so as to be aware of which designs come off as
authentic, yet eye-catching
And then, drum roll please,
- You’ll create three to five fully functional program-specific
Wordpress-based websites,
with full content support from the rest of the WASH United India
team
Qualifications and Character:
- A robust Wordpress portfolio, preferably from diverse and/or
challenging environments
- High level of comfort with themes, plugins and widgets
- Great, but not required: fluency in PHP programming, and
strong knowledge in additional coding languages and data and
content management systems(MySQL, XHTML, CSS,
JavaScript/JQuery)
- You must have a sense of adventure, but also the patience to live
in India, where the internet’s speed is sometimes like that of a
tired window shopper, and to work with a start-up social enter-
prise, with only medium-level previous experience in website
development. A sense of humor and a kind, generous attitude
will be essential.

Game Design Fellowship
WASH Fellowship Program Page15
Description: Responsibilities:
Together, how can we revolutionize gaming and gamifica-
tion for social good? That will be the central question of
the Game Design Fellowship. Globally, and certainly in
India, very few, if any organizations in the social sector,
consider games to be a“serious”medium for the promo-
tion of development.
But as recent research and even our own experiments
have shown, games represent a massive opportunity to
influence the way people think, and to encourage
healthier and more socially responsible behaviour. Games,
thus, are at the center of“behaviour change,”a proven
mechanism for alleviating India’s sanitation and hygiene
crisis. For instance, given the sad fact that the Indian
government currently uses seriously outdated campaigns,
mostly centered around painting walls and billboards,
can’t you imagine how much more fun learning about the
importance of toilets and soap and tampons could be if
we gamified those learning experiences?
But its not just basic WASH education that needs to be
gamified. In every project proposal, just as in every meet-
ing of rural politicians, just as in website design, just as in
our own team meetings, you should be the type of person
who sees a“gamifiable”moment. After all, when we were
children, we learned about the world through games. But
just because people think games are only for kids doesn’t
mean they are right. We need someone whose gaming
ideas are seriously out-of-the-box.
To be a successful game designer, we think you
should:
- Have inclinations towards user centered design
- Be young at heart
- Want to make games mean something more than just
a time pass
- Have as few limits to what constitutes your definition
of a game as possible
As a Game Design Fellow, you would take charge of:
- User research to gain valuable knowledge on our
game audiences
- Brainstorming sessions with the WASH team, as well as
other Indian game designers and leading game design
experts worldwide, whom we already have strong con-
nections with (Columbia, Carnegie Mellon, etc.)
- Creating game use manuals for the WASH United India
team to streamline game deployment in our various
programs
- Oversight of the production of games and gamified
experiences across many different platforms, ranging
from simple cell phone games, to the Microsoft Kinect,
to long-term processes where, say, children“level up”
each time they demonstrate good WASH behaviour.
