The overall objective of the Helicopter Safety Study 3 (HSS-3) is to contribute to improved safety in helicopter transport of personnel to, and from, fixed and floating oil- and gas installations on the Norwegian Continental Shelf (NCS). The project is named Helicopter Safety Study 3 (HSS-3) and is a follow-up of the previous HSS-1 and HSS-2 studies. HSS-1 and HSS-2 cover the periods 1966–1990 and 1990–1998 respectively and are available in English. HSS-3 covers the period 1999–2019. The HSS-3 report is so far only in Norwegian language with an English executive summary. The main report describes a method for risk quantification, development for the periods 1999–2009 and trends 2010–2019, plus statistical/historical data and the estimation of risk levels. In addition, the study includes an analysis of passengers' risk perception regarding offshore helicopter transport, and a proposalon how the safety can be followed by a set of lagging and leading indicators to monitor safety.
Finally, recommendations are given for a number of measures about how safety can be improved or, as minimum, be maintained at the present level.
Pressure Vessel Selection Sizing and Troubleshooting Karl Kolmetz
Vessels are a vital part of the operational units in the process industries. A vessel is
a container in which materials are processed, treated, or stored. Without this type of
equipment, the process industries would be unable to create and store large
amounts of Product. Pressure vessels used in industry are leak-tight pressure
containers, usually cylindrical or spherical in shape, with different head
configurations.
The process engineer should have some knowledge of the mechanical design of
vessels. For example, the process engineer may have to make a preliminary design
of vessels for a cost estimate. A vessel consists of a cylindrical shell and end caps,
called heads. For safety, vessel design is governed by codes.

Water Treatment Unit Selection, Sizing and Troubleshooting Karl Kolmetz
Freshwater uses for manufacturing, food production, domestic and public needs,
recreation, hydroelectric power production, and flood control. The primary sources of
freshwater are rainfall in cisterns and water jars; groundwater from springs, artesian
wells, and drilled or dug wells; surface water from lakes, rivers, and streams;
desalinized seawater or brackish groundwater; and reclaimed wastewater.
Some water supplies may also contain disinfections by-products, inorganic
chemicals, organic chemicals, and radionuclides. Specialized methods for controlling
formation or removing them can also be part of water treatment.
Water treatment processes are applied to surface water sources. Typically, a water
treatment plant (WTP) undergoes a series of processes which include the units
presedimentation, rapid mix, flocculation, sedimentation, filtration, adsorption, and
disinfection, with appropriate chemical feeds and residual treatment processes

Universal Design Meets the Exit Sign White Paper Performance Assessment Templ...Lee Wilson
The Universal Design Meets the Exit Sign White Paper presents the case for a new generation of exit signs to to be used in all forms of transportation, facilities and buildings. The White Paper discusses the many complex issues that have led to the development of this initiative and argues for the support of these new emergency and exit signs.
The White Paper includes an Appendix, which is titled Universal Design Meets the Exit Sign White Paper Performance Assessment Template by Lee Wilson Version 1.0
The performance-based template provides support to accept the use of The Accessible Exit Sign Project signage as a variation from the prescriptive ‘Deemed-to-Satisfy’ provisions of the building code. The template also provides support for this approach with consideration to the content of the White Paper. It proposes the use of a performance-based building solution to accept that emergency egress and exit signage provided throughout the building will adopt a best practice ‘universal design’ approach and argues that this approach provides a safer solution for all building occupants, including people with disabilities.
The proposed signs presented in the assessment form part of the ‘Accessible Exit Sign Project’, which adopt the ‘Accessible Means of Egress Icon’ on all emergency egress and exit signage used throughout the building.
Generating a custom Ruby SDK for your web service or Rails API using Smithyg2nightmarescribd
Have you ever wanted a Ruby client API to communicate with your web service? Smithy is a protocol-agnostic language for defining services and SDKs. Smithy Ruby is an implementation of Smithy that generates a Ruby SDK using a Smithy model. In this talk, we will explore Smithy and Smithy Ruby to learn how to generate custom feature-rich SDKs that can communicate with any web service, such as a Rails JSON API.
Epistemic Interaction - tuning interfaces to provide information for AI supportAlan Dix
Paper presented at SYNERGY workshop at AVI 2024, Genoa, Italy. 3rd June 2024
https://alandix.com/academic/papers/synergy2024-epistemic/
As machine learning integrates deeper into human-computer interactions, the concept of epistemic interaction emerges, aiming to refine these interactions to enhance system adaptability. This approach encourages minor, intentional adjustments in user behaviour to enrich the data available for system learning. This paper introduces epistemic interaction within the context of human-system communication, illustrating how deliberate interaction design can improve system understanding and adaptation. Through concrete examples, we demonstrate the potential of epistemic interaction to significantly advance human-computer interaction by leveraging intuitive human communication strategies to inform system design and functionality, offering a novel pathway for enriching user-system engagements.
Elevating Tactical DDD Patterns Through Object CalisthenicsDorra BARTAGUIZ
After immersing yourself in the blue book and its red counterpart, attending DDD-focused conferences, and applying tactical patterns, you're left with a crucial question: How do I ensure my design is effective? Tactical patterns within Domain-Driven Design (DDD) serve as guiding principles for creating clear and manageable domain models. However, achieving success with these patterns requires additional guidance. Interestingly, we've observed that a set of constraints initially designed for training purposes remarkably aligns with effective pattern implementation, offering a more ‘mechanical’ approach. Let's explore together how Object Calisthenics can elevate the design of your tactical DDD patterns, offering concrete help for those venturing into DDD for the first time!

Neuro-symbolic is not enough, we need neuro-*semantic*Frank van Harmelen
Neuro-symbolic (NeSy) AI is on the rise. However, simply machine learning on just any symbolic structure is not sufficient to really harvest the gains of NeSy. These will only be gained when the symbolic structures have an actual semantics. I give an operational definition of semantics as “predictable inference”.
All of this illustrated with link prediction over knowledge graphs, but the argument is general.

Kubernetes & AI - Beauty and the Beast !?! @KCD Istanbul 2024Tobias Schneck
As AI technology is pushing into IT I was wondering myself, as an “infrastructure container kubernetes guy”, how get this fancy AI technology get managed from an infrastructure operational view? Is it possible to apply our lovely cloud native principals as well? What benefit’s both technologies could bring to each other?
Let me take this questions and provide you a short journey through existing deployment models and use cases for AI software. On practical examples, we discuss what cloud/on-premise strategy we may need for applying it to our own infrastructure to get it to work from an enterprise perspective. I want to give an overview about infrastructure requirements and technologies, what could be beneficial or limiting your AI use cases in an enterprise environment. An interactive Demo will give you some insides, what approaches I got already working for real.
