Editor's Notes

  • #3 Mass collaboration is becoming second nature. The internet has made collaboration a social process Today through channels like Facebook and Twitter - 100k’s / millions of people can connect and effectively collaborate as never before But social media is just the beginning of something much bigger and much more significant. What is more profound and more exciting is the impact mass collaboration is beginning to exert on the business world.
  • #4 Believe it our not the internet can be about so much more than sharing cat pictures  . At Crowdicity we believe that business potential of mass collaboration is enormous  http://www.boredpanda.com/cat-with-eyebrows/?image_id=sam-cat-with-eyebrows-1.jpg : This is SAM the cat with eyebrows
  • #5 As Gartner said recently - ‘mass collaboration is the future of competitive advantage in business’ Just like mass production, mass distribution and mass marketing before it mass collaboration is the next big evolution in expanding business impact. The real winners will always be those organisations that tap into human knowledge and translate it into new and useful applications.
  • #6 Just as an aside - 3M case study – in part because peer producers are more likely to come up with ideas for entire new product lines rather than minor improvements.
  • #7 And at Crowdicity we are seeing first hand an every growing number of organisation who are dramatically magnifying their capabilities by tapping into the power of the masses to crowdsource new ideas and solutions and harness the power of the crowd to drive innovation faster, more cost effectively and more creatively.  And we call this ideas management And this is across all sectors and type of organisations  Here's just a few examples of some of the projects were involved with:
  • #8 Helping an airline connect 10’s k’s staff and create a centralised ideas and innovation bank
  • #9 United Nations to create the first ever crowdsourced declaration – continuation of the millenium goals
  • #10 P&G Connecting consumers and co-creating Guy White Catalyx
  • #11 And RIO who are Crowdsourcing with citizens and involving the people of rio directly in civil government
  • #12 So  the question for many organisations ask is ….
  • #13 Does this look familiar - when words collide. This is the world that many organisations are still living in.  Adjustment in mindset is needed. Ideation is a good place to start and for many orgs it's starting internally
  • #14 7 tips you can actually use to introducing mass collaboration and idea management into your organisation
  • #15 GET A PLATFORM Technology is the enabler. It's the way your going to reach your crowd. Takes the pain out the process, makes it easier to manage the process and the outcomes It also becomes a focal point for what your trying to do.  Can be quite abstract - having a platform provides a tangible space where ideas meet and mingle.
  • #16 One of the the worst thing that you can do is ask for any ideas - because you'll get them and then what?  Ask for the ideas you need . Align to business needs, innovation needs parameters - more chance of actually doing something with the ideas
  • #17 To that point - don't try and solve anti grave on day one. Don't make your initial challenges to heavy or serious. Work up to those big gnarly problems and look for challenges that will give you quick wins. Get people working together, meeting - mini innovation challenges Engagement and energy in these early days is more important than cracking an insurmountable problem.
  • #18 Encourage unlikely collabroations Get the experts working with the amateurs. What the study also revealed was that: “The further the focal problem was from the solvers’ field of expertise, the more likely they were to solve it”. Redundancy of knowledge – 30 marketeers in the room ceiling they can’t push through. Throw in a product guy. Artist Ruth Oostermann who turns her daughters scribble into art : Ohttp://www.boredpanda.com/artist-turns-childrens-drawings-into-paintings/
  • #19 Think about throwing is open and see what happens. Bill Joy, Founder of Sun Microsystems famously once said.
  • #20 Make it competitive but don’t make it all about the winning 5% winners / vast majority are not but they are the crowd - build ideas, evaluate, validate and challenge. Make it about collaboration and celebrate and reward those who exemplify the values of what you are doing.
  • #21 It’s obvious but it needs to be said Commit to doing something - tell people your going to do something.  Doesn't have to be auctioning the top voted idea,  Communicate back - let people know that there ideas are not just disappearing down a big innovation blackhole.
  • #22 Last point - Mass collaboration is all about a crowd and to build a crowd you need to create a movement. Watch the video and you will see what in meant.
  • #23 So my room full of shirtless guys go forth and find your first follower.
