- #4 Let’s take a step back to see how we got to where we are today. Any discussion of cloud computing must begin with AWS. Their public cloud is a disruptive technology that has changed the way that companies, particularly startups, procure IT resources. AWS and other public clouds, such as Rackspace, now enable businesses to reduce or even eliminate capital IT expenditure by renting instead of buying compute resources. Beyond capital savings, public cloud vendors allow businesses to be agile and to adopt a “fail fast’ mentality that sparks innovation.
