Bagaimana percakapan di bus kota atau sedang di kereta api yang terjadi di antara penumpang yang tidak saling kenal (pada mulanya) dengan topik pembicaraan tidak menentu, tanpa tujuan, dengan ragam bahasa yang berganti-ganti, apakah dapat juga di sebut sebagai peristiwa tutur? Secara sosiolinguistik percakapan tersebut tidak dapat dikatakan sebagai peristiwa tutur, sebab pokok percakapan tidak menentu (berganti-ganti menurut situasi), tanpa tujuan dilakukan oleh orang-orang yang tidak segaja untuk bercakap-cakap, dan mengunakan ragam bahasa yang berganti-ganti. Sebuah percakapan baru dapat di sebut sebagai sebuah peristiwa tutur kalau memenuhi syarat.

9. Cultural Patterns of Behavior
George Peter Murdock menjelaskan ada 7 pola budaya
tingkah laku, antara lain:
Asli berasal dari pikiran manusia.
Memfasilitasi hubungan antara manusia dan
lingkungan sekitarnya.
Memuaskan/memenuhi kebutuhan dasar manusia.
Menambah dan menyesuaikan pada perubahan
internal maupun eksternal.

10. Memiliki struktur yang konsisten. Jika sebuah budaya
berubah maka akan berlangsung secara
perlahan/gradual.
Dipelajari dan dibagi pada seluruh anggota komunitas.

12. Sistem kepercayaan budaya dalam sebuah komunitas
meliputi semua bentuk ide, pengetahuan, cerita,
takhayul, mitos dan legenda dan di-share oleh anggota

14. Nilai budaya adalah sesuatu yang ada dalam struktur
masyarakat di mana terdapat sebuah pemahaman
akan suatu hal yang ‘baik’ dan apa yang wajib untuk

Contohnya adalah nilai budaya yang ada di Amerika
Serikat tentang persamaan derajat manusia.

16. Tomasouw menjabarkan bahwa norma budaya adalah
sesuatu yang dijadikan aturan oleh standar-standar
yang telah ditetapkan dan diterima oleh masyarakat
itu sendiri.
Norma sendiri dibagi menjadi dua, yaitu folkways dan
mores.

17. Folkways
Folkways adalah norma yang dianggap kurang bersifat
vital bagi kesejahteraan sebuah kelompok serta misi
pelaksanaannya tidak begitu jelas. (Tomasouw)
Contohnya adalah penggunaan dasi pada situasi formal
di Amerika Serikat.

18. Mores
Mores adalah kebalikan dari folkways. Jenis norma ini
dianggap vital bagi skema budaya setempat dan
pelaksanaannya ditunjang oleh sistem yang jelas.
Mores juga memuat nilai moral dasar dari suatu

Contohnya adalah ketidakbersediaan masyarakat Barat
untuk pernikahan poligami.
