Crocodiles have three brothers - Gavialoidea, Alligatoroidea and Crocodyloidea. Their ancient ancestor from the Triassic period was Protosuchus. Crocodiles are ambush predators that wait patiently for prey to approach and then rush to attack. As cold-blooded animals, they can survive long periods without food due to their slow metabolism. Despite appearing slow, crocodiles are apex predators in their environments.
