Maria Gutierrez discusses the usefulness of studying critical thinking. Critical thinking skills allow one to effectively acquire and use knowledge to avoid poor decisions. Studying critical thinking teaches one to overcome obstacles to thinking critically and argue claims effectively to get better results. Mastering critical thinking leads to making knowledgeable, intelligent, and rational decisions for both personal and public decision making by considering all alternatives and consequences. According to Professor James Marteney, quick decisions are unsafe decisions, as the ancient Greek Sophocles said.
