This document discusses how a magazine cover, double page spread, and contents page use conventions of those elements in sports magazines. For the cover, conventions included bold text, models in uniforms with aggressive poses. The double page spread followed conventions such as headings, photos relating to the topic, drop caps, quotes, and columns. The contents page aligned with conventions like a main image, sub-headings, and magazine name. The magazine targets 17-25 year olds as the main Premier League audience and uses male models and topics, representing a stereotyped male audience.

The reason that I used these codes and conventions on my magazine front cover is so that it looks like your normal sports magazine
that you would find in a magazine shop. When you look at another magazine front cover you will see that they all have a massive
masthead so that it stands out.

• There is a heading so that the people know what the double page spread is about
• The picture used is usually what the spread is about
• The image show the type of genre its about
• Drop cap
• First stand used as an introduction and usually the second biggest text on the page
• Quotes to break up images
• Interviewer name name to give insight to who wrote it
• Page number
• Issue date
• Columns
• Headlines
• Colour scheme
• Questions to the player in a different colour to show its by a different person
• Relaxed language
I didn’t challenge the conventions on my sports magazine double page spread because I wanted to make my double page spread look as traditional as possible. For example where
the text starts I used a drop cap because when you look into other double page spreads they start with a drop cap so the reader can see where the article starts. In my article I have
a pull quote of a bit of text this is done so that I can gain the attention of the reader from just glancing over on the page. This quote also has the name of the interviewer this is a usual
convention in a magazine double page spread because if the person that likes the article wants to see who wrote this article and what other texts he has done before.

The uses of conventions weren’t challenged in the contents page as I have my image in the centre to gain
the attention, the text of the contents page was left aligned so that the text is organised and just goes down
in one column.

8. Social groups and issues
My magazine is made for 17-25 year olds this is the general audience of football magazine readers.
As one of the worlds most recognisable league in the world I chose the Mens English premier
league. I am targeting the more mature audience because there aren’t cartoons that you would see
in a Childs magazine, with also the double page spread having lots of text and a child would not be
interested in reading this whole article.
My magazine is stereotyped to be a male audience and not female I have constructed this
representation because when you look at my magazine there are only male models and the articles
are relating to the mens side of the game.
