I wanted to do a film as per
expectations of a large audience that
what they want to see. I took a survey
to understand that.
I selected my Apartment building while making of my AS
portfolio and asked people of different age groups about
what type of films they would like to see. I learned that
people would like to see Romantic comedy on Social
Issue.
There were less
votes for
Horror/Thriller. So
this time I thought
of making a movie
on this genre
which also involves
a social issue.

A few examples of
Horror films that I
had in mind and
watched for an idea.
Horror
Horror films are unsettling
films designed to frighten and panic, and
cause dread and alarm. Such films invoke
our hidden worst fears, often in a
terrifying, shocking finale, while
captivating and entertaining us at the
same time in a cathartic experience.
My film is about a girl, who was tortured
my her mother since a very young age.
She died at the age of fourteen and now
lives in the house as a ghost and haunts
the mother of every family who moves
in, protecting the children of the family.
‘Revenge’
I have named my film Revenge
to describe it in a vague manner,
basing the teenage girl’s
revenge of her mother on other
mothers.
I think this will attract a larger
audience as the name itself is
catchy.
A horror genre usually
attracts the teenagers
and the young adults.
Young adults
Teenage
Kids
Old age
Where as kids and old
aged people would
avoid to watch it.
Also, in my film I am indirectly showing my
audience what reality really looks like and not
every child is blessed with a perfect childhood.
But on the other hand, my movie also sends a
message to the audience that you cannot judge
every single person in the same way, like, what
one must have done to you.
Conventions of a horror film are:
• Use of thunder and rain.
• Blood splatter, shadows.
• Ghost, creature or a murderer is must.
• The ghost is most likely to be a female of any age.
• Happy endings usually.
• Horror scenes shot in dark or at night.
• Isolated areas.
• Exaggerated diegetic sound.
I have challenged the very common
conventions of the Horror genre.
- The house in my film is not in a isolated place,
it is a very normal house and does not depict as
being haunted.
- Most of the horror and sudden scenes are shot
in light or in daylight as I wanted to break the
darkness convention.
Social Issue
My film highlights a social issue which is very
common all over the world.
In every other society’s parents; mother or
father, are torturing their children because
of various different reasons. Similarly, my
film revolves around a dead girl who wants to take
revenge of her own mother from every mother who
moves in.
How do elements of your
production work together to
create a sense of branding?
I have created a sense of branding in my
production through font style and color.
Font style that I have used to
write the name of my film
everywhere is Chiller and the
colors I have used are, black,
white and red.
• As we were asked
to make a poster
as an invite to a
film festival, I
have used the
following logos:
• For the name of the
movie I have used
red Font color so that it’s catchy
and it comes out in between the
other text on the poster, which
is in black and white.
• As I have shown a ghosts
shadow on the wall, I gave it a
bit of a grey paint texture if
you look closely.
• The picture I have take is a
shadow of the ghost standing
in front of the bed. I created
the shadow by using my
phone’s torch in darkness.
How does your product engage
with audiences and how would
it be distributed as a real media
text?
USP
The unique selling point of my movie is its
closeness to reality. It shows a normal life of the
two; a mother and her daughter who move in a
new house, which very unexpectedly is haunted
by a teenage girl.
The idea behind the girl’s story is pretty
different, as I have not shown her childhood, but
have explained hers through Zola’s childhood.
Distributor for My
Movie
My film will be
distributed by Aribah
Productions and Infinity
Pictures.
I will also use social
networking sites to promote
my movie, such as:
•Facebook
•YouTube
•Instagram
•Twitter
•Netflix
•IMDb
I will release my film’s
soundtracks on iTunes.
And will also
release my movie
on DVD one
month after the
film festival.
My film has been selected
for the Expo Film Festival.

How did you integrate
technologies (software,
hardware and online) in this
project?
Software
For
converting
the videos I
have used
AVS Video
Converter.
To edit my film, I have
used Windows Movie
Maker.
I used Adobe Photoshop CS6
to make the movie poster for
my film.
Hardware
The camera I used to shoot is
Nikon D5200.
In my film I have used the tripod in
few scenes only, as I had to give a
naturally creepy/horror effect which
could only be done without a tripod.
Online
As I was asked to submit all assignments on blog. Therefore, I had to
make one. My blog is on tumblr. It was fun maintaining a blog throughout the
two years (AS and A2)!

In the last I would specially like to thank my
Media Sir who kept on pushing everyone to
complete the project. His advises on every
aspect of the movie and his critical review
meant we are closer to our goal of achieving
high marks.

Creative Critical Reflection of Revenge (A2 Media Studies)

  • 2. How does your product use or challenge the conventions and how does it represents social groups or issues?
  • 3. Horror Thriller Romantic Comedy I wanted to do a film as per expectations of a large audience that what they want to see. I took a survey to understand that.
  • 4. I selected my Apartment building while making of my AS portfolio and asked people of different age groups about what type of films they would like to see. I learned that people would like to see Romantic comedy on Social Issue. There were less votes for Horror/Thriller. So this time I thought of making a movie on this genre which also involves a social issue. 0 5 10 15 20 25 30 35 40 45 50 Horor Comedy Romance Social Issues Thriller Childrens Kids Teens Middle Age Old Horror + Social Issue, was my choice.
  • 5. A few examples of Horror films that I had in mind and watched for an idea.
  • 6. Horror Horror films are unsettling films designed to frighten and panic, and cause dread and alarm. Such films invoke our hidden worst fears, often in a terrifying, shocking finale, while captivating and entertaining us at the same time in a cathartic experience. My film is about a girl, who was tortured my her mother since a very young age. She died at the age of fourteen and now lives in the house as a ghost and haunts the mother of every family who moves in, protecting the children of the family.
  • 7. ‘Revenge’ I have named my film Revenge to describe it in a vague manner, basing the teenage girl’s revenge of her mother on other mothers. I think this will attract a larger audience as the name itself is catchy.
  • 8. A horror genre usually attracts the teenagers and the young adults. Young adults Teenage Kids Old age Where as kids and old aged people would avoid to watch it.
  • 9. Also, in my film I am indirectly showing my audience what reality really looks like and not every child is blessed with a perfect childhood. But on the other hand, my movie also sends a message to the audience that you cannot judge every single person in the same way, like, what one must have done to you.
  • 10. Conventions of a horror film are: • Use of thunder and rain. • Blood splatter, shadows. • Ghost, creature or a murderer is must. • The ghost is most likely to be a female of any age. • Happy endings usually. • Horror scenes shot in dark or at night. • Isolated areas. • Exaggerated diegetic sound.
  • 11. I have challenged the very common conventions of the Horror genre. - The house in my film is not in a isolated place, it is a very normal house and does not depict as being haunted. - Most of the horror and sudden scenes are shot in light or in daylight as I wanted to break the darkness convention.
  • 12. Social Issue My film highlights a social issue which is very common all over the world. In every other society’s parents; mother or father, are torturing their children because of various different reasons. Similarly, my film revolves around a dead girl who wants to take revenge of her own mother from every mother who moves in.
  • 13. How do elements of your production work together to create a sense of branding?
  • 14. I have created a sense of branding in my production through font style and color. Font style that I have used to write the name of my film everywhere is Chiller and the colors I have used are, black, white and red.
  • 15. • As we were asked to make a poster as an invite to a film festival, I have used the following logos: • For the name of the movie I have used red Font color so that it’s catchy and it comes out in between the other text on the poster, which is in black and white. • As I have shown a ghosts shadow on the wall, I gave it a bit of a grey paint texture if you look closely. • The picture I have take is a shadow of the ghost standing in front of the bed. I created the shadow by using my phone’s torch in darkness.
  • 16. How does your product engage with audiences and how would it be distributed as a real media text?
  • 17. USP The unique selling point of my movie is its closeness to reality. It shows a normal life of the two; a mother and her daughter who move in a new house, which very unexpectedly is haunted by a teenage girl. The idea behind the girl’s story is pretty different, as I have not shown her childhood, but have explained hers through Zola’s childhood.
  • 18. Distributor for My Movie My film will be distributed by Aribah Productions and Infinity Pictures.
  • 19. I will also use social networking sites to promote my movie, such as: •Facebook •YouTube •Instagram •Twitter •Netflix •IMDb
  • 20. I will release my film’s soundtracks on iTunes. And will also release my movie on DVD one month after the film festival.
  • 21. My film has been selected for the Expo Film Festival. Venue: Expo Center Date: 30th May 2016 Time: 3pm-9pm REVENG E
  • 22. How did you integrate technologies (software, hardware and online) in this project?
  • 23. Software For converting the videos I have used AVS Video Converter. To edit my film, I have used Windows Movie Maker.
  • 24. I used Adobe Photoshop CS6 to make the movie poster for my film.
  • 25. Hardware The camera I used to shoot is Nikon D5200. In my film I have used the tripod in few scenes only, as I had to give a naturally creepy/horror effect which could only be done without a tripod.
  • 26. Online As I was asked to submit all assignments on blog. Therefore, I had to make one. My blog is on tumblr. It was fun maintaining a blog throughout the two years (AS and A2)! Here are a few screenshots of my blog.
  • 27. The platform I used to display my film is vimeo. To upload my CCR, I have used slide share.

  • 29. Media Assignments In A2 we were given two video making assignments.   • 30. In the last I would specially like to thank my Media Sir who kept on pushing everyone to complete the project. His advises on every aspect of the movie and his critical review meant we are closer to our goal of achieving high marks. The way he teaches us with a certain friendship meant that we should take care of his every observations and I did the same after his review.
