Web Service
• A web service is a method of communication
between two electronic devices over the
World Wide Web(www). A web service is a
software function provided at a network
address over the web or the cloud, it is a
service that is “always on”.
• It is a software designed to support
interoperable machine-to-machine interaction
over a network.
Components
• Service Broker
– The service broker is meant to be a registry of services, and stores
information about what services are available and who may use them
• SOAP
– A simple XML based protocol to let applications exchange information
over HTTP
• Service Provider
– Is considered as the remote server in web service.
• Requester
– Considered as the client.
Components
• wsdl(Web Service Definition Language)
– XML based interface definition language used for
describing the functionality offered by the web
service. Like method signature in the
programming language.
• UDDI
– Platform independent (XML)-based registry by
which businesses worldwide can list themselves
on the Internet, and a mechanism to register and
locate web service applications.
SOAP
• Simple Object Access Protocol
• Format for sending messages over Internet between
programs
• XML-based
• Platform and language independent
• Simple and extensible
• Stateless, one-way
– but applications can create more complex
interaction patterns.
