The Socio-Economic Roots of Poverty (gilpp_2013)Prabhu Guptara
Explores whether the roots of poverty are social and cultural? And, if so, whether the kinds of economic initiatives we follow at present, have any real chance of eliminating poverty? Further, what kinds of initiatives can in fact eliminate poverty and produce the kind of development that most humans would recognise as worthwhile?
CILIP Cymru Wales Conference 2019: Making loneliness everyone’s businessCILIP
Claire O'Shea's presentation:
The Campaign to End Loneliness was formed in 2011 in response to the growing problem of loneliness in our communities. Since then they have gathered an enormous amount of evidence and research as to what the causes are and what some of the solutions might be. Libraries and public spaces play a vital role in communities, particularly as the high strtteet struggles. Arts and culture are also fundamental interest in a lot of people’s lives, keeping them resilient and linked in with communities of interest. Campaign to End Loneliness will take you through their work and what you might be able to do to end loneliness in your roles.

How can brands use customer participation, creative content and innovative communications to build campaigns that mobilize people to help solve social and environmental problems?
Lecture in the Module "Global Food Policies" on the Master Food, Law and Finance (IUC Torino, 20 March 2017). In a world that is largerly poor, although improving, the industrial food system is the main driver of planetary havoc, exceeding already several planetary boundaries that preserve our societies and a stable Nature. The paradoxes of the industrial food system (food kills people, food is not for people, food producers stay hungry, food is wasted) illustrate a disfunctional system that is unsustainable, inequitious and inefficient. The industrial food system wouldn't be able to exist without public subsidies and enabling regulations. This lecture explores those elements that sustain a technological way of producing and consuming food, the narrative behind, the lock-in mechanisms and the main flaws, proposing alternative ways to produce and consume.
The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) is specialized agency of the United Nations that leads international efforts to defeat hunger.
Their goal is to achieve food security for all and make sure that people have regular access to enough high-quality food to lead active, healthy lives. With over 194 member states, FAO works in over 130 countries worldwide. They believe that everyone can play a part in ending hunger.

People are living longer, global GDP has risen by over 300% and extreme poverty has been reduced by over half, yet discourse is dominated by doom and gloom. Improvements in the economy, social policy and politics have lead to these improvements but there is still much to be done on inequality, and climate change.

As Product Professionals we are told our job is to create products that either solve user problems or take advantage of opportunities. The challenge is that, during this time, this seems hard to find as new product innovations are being released every day. Are we running out of problems or opportunities? No, we have simply only been looking at the problem/opportunity from our usual viewpoint of the average user. What if we looked at it from a different lens? What if we look at people who always struggle with problems based on their environments not accommodating their unique needs? I argue, this is the gold mine of opportunity for creating innovative products. Solving the mismatches of people with disabilities will lead into innovations for your users and customers of all abilities! We will discuss the real-world examples of this, how to do it, and future market demand. We will all be disabled one day.

Although Universal Design for Learning (UDL) is commonly heard of in higher education, most are implementing it at the level of individual interactions or think it's just another facet of accessibility efforts. We will work together to develop observation and assessment techniques for UDL to create a foundation from which we can build.

Securing your Kubernetes cluster_ a step-by-step guide to success !KatiaHIMEUR1
Today, after several years of existence, an extremely active community and an ultra-dynamic ecosystem, Kubernetes has established itself as the de facto standard in container orchestration. Thanks to a wide range of managed services, it has never been so easy to set up a ready-to-use Kubernetes cluster.
However, this ease of use means that the subject of security in Kubernetes is often left for later, or even neglected. This exposes companies to significant risks.
In this talk, I'll show you step-by-step how to secure your Kubernetes cluster for greater peace of mind and reliability.
