  1. In this presentation I will report initial findings of a feasibility trial using a game-making application on mobile devices (Pocket Code) with children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) in non-STEM curricula.
  2. Each country is researching a different group of students that they have identified as at risk of exclusion
  3. This is a report on the feasibility pilot leading to the full pilots currently underway This comes during a period of enthusiasm for coding, programming, hour of code, computer science etc. Game making mechanics and dynamics Gamification / engagement Promote better pupil outcomes and progress Range of pupils with differing needs Pupils sometimes excluded from classroom learning Design learning for accessibility In classes that aren’t necessarily STEM Coding supported by non-specialist teachers

  5. This is part of the newly developed teachers guide on the Catrobat website
  6. The following summarises the hypotheses formulated to test the effectiveness of Pocket Code as a teaching tool. Where appropriate these will be evaluated against a control group as discussed previously but will also include measures taken prior to the study beginning and taken again at the end of the testing cycles.
