CREATE A SCHOOL
D’abord
a. Decide on your team (2 people)
b. Work through the presentation on school subjects that has been emailed to you.
Remember that you can use Forvo.com to help you with any pronunciation problems and
wordreference.com to look up individual words)
c. Complete the dream school task:
Ensuite
Decide which town you live in (be prepared to justify your choice)
Decide on a name for your school.
Decide what subjects you will be offering at your school and create a two week timetable
which gives the lessons and the times of the lessons.
You can be creative about the timing of the school day. You must complete your
timetable in French.
You must also write a list, in French, of subjects that are compulsory (Les matières
obligatoires) and a list of subjects that are optional (Les matières facultatives).
Look at some websites for French schools:
http://www.lycee-jean-lurcat.net/drupal/index.php
http://rabelais.etab.ac-caen.fr/
http://www.lycee-ja-rennes.org/
. What are some of the differences between French schools and Australian schools.
Aim: To develop a deeper understanding of schools in France. To develop a clear
understanding of the vocabulary involved in giving opinions about school subjects
and schools. To develop a deeper understanding of what it means to create a school
community.
Imagine that you are parents setting up a school. In the past, you have always home
schooled your children, but you have decided to join together with a group of other
parents to set up a formal school of your own. You live in a large town in France.
Complete all of these core tasks:
Decide on a fake twitter id for your school and write out the first 5 tweets that your school
would send out. This must be done in French and remember that you have only 130
characters.
Decide on a fake Instagram id for your school and create at least one image that you would
like to use to promote your French school on Instagram. Make sure your image has a short
captions.
Go online to find websites of at least 3 actual French schools and try to decide which you
like the best and why. What kind of things do the sites have in common. How do you think
the site compares to the RSC websites. What are the main similarities and differences?
Create an enrolment form for students to complete when they join the school.
Create a mock-up of a school website for your French school. Remember, it needs to be in
French. This site will help you to work out what you need to include in a mock up:
http://knowledge.hubspot.com/site-pages-user-guide/how-to-mock-up-your-website-pages.
You can use an app of your choice to create your site.
Create a floorplan of your school – make it as creative and imaginative as you like. Label the
areas in French.
Create a menu for the school canteen. Items on the menu and prices must be in French.
See if you can find details of real French school canteens online.
What are some of the differences between French schools and Australian schools.
Enfin …
