CRESCENT RURAL DEVELOPMENT SOCIETY (CRDS)
A BRIEF INTRODUCTION
CRESCENT RURAL DEVELOPMENT SOCIETY started to work on Rural Development issues
since 1993. Initially, though there were no separate projects, CRESCENT RURAL
DEVELOPMENT SOCIETY, out of its own interest, worked to integrate Rural Development
aspects into all its programmes. Since 1993-94 onwards CRESCENT RURAL DEVELOPMENT
SOCIETY planned trainings for the staff with the support of Govt. and Non-Govt. agencies.
CRESCENT RURAL DEVELOPMENT SOCIETY is also taking many initiatives at the Local
level in collaboration with other Voluntary Organizations and Govt. Departments to plan
activities. Since then CRESCENT RURAL DEVELOPMENT SOCIETY has decided to continue
its work on the similar lines.

Anantapur district has a long and illustrious heritage of voluntarism starting from 1960.
The pioneering works of voluntary organizations in the district involve models of
organization, mobilization and unionization of Agricultural laborers, Marginal farmers,
marginalized sections of the society i.e. Dalits, and STs integrated Rural Development,
Regeneration of women and children, Community health, AIDS Awareness, Watershed
Development, Regeneration of De-graded lands and hillocks etc.

GOAL:
To bring the socially and economically downtrodden communities into the mainstream of
development by empowering them and build relationship among themselves for their
integrated development.
MAIN OBJECTIVES:
 To undertake integrated rural development Programmes by providing physical
activities with the financial assistance of Govt and non-government agencies.
 To undertake rural infrastructure development activities like Rural Housing, Rural
Education, Sanitation, Rural Health, Land development and NRM activities.
 To obtain Grants-in-Aid from Government Institutions/ Departments and Funding
agencies within India and abroad for attainment of its aims and objectives.
 To undertake various Training programmes and educational development
programmes to improve economic conditions of the rural communities.

All over Anantapur districts with special focus on the following mandals:

STRENGTHS OF THE ORGANISATION:
 The president of this organization is having much familiar to the development
issues of rural people, as he has been associated and worked in the field of rural
development.
 The secretary of the organization is a graduate and he has been associated with
awareness giving methodology as well as developmental concepts.
 The president has undergone various training programmes on participatory
mechanism in the Programme assessment and development services.

 The president of the organization is identified as the District Key Person by RWS-AP
for monitoring qualitative drinking water issues.
 The president of the organization has been identified as the Master Trainer for
Nirmal Gram Puraskar Yojana.
 The president of the organization has been given opportunity to meet Prince
Charles of England in the year 2003.
 The organization has carried out studies on Prisoners issues, Sex workers issues,
Beedi workers issues, Disable peoples issues, Street Children issues and Slum
dwellers issues at the state level.

WORKING PATTERN:
CRESCENT RURAL DEVELOPMENT SOCIETY has a strong belief that the development
intervention should need people, as main actors of the programme. Keeping this in mind it
is concentrating in involvement of people as the owners of all its activities. Main focus has
been given involving of Women, Farmers, Disabled, Students and User groups.
DESCRIPTION OF RECENT ACTIVITIES:
CRESCENT RURAL DEVELOPMENT SOCIETY has implemented the following activities in
Anantapur district of Andhra Pradesh in collaboration with Local communities, State and
Union Governments.
1. Working on Child Rights related activities, Child Protection in Ananthapur District.
At present we are providing Shelter, food & Protection to100 Girl children.
2. Mobilisation of Beedi Workers in collaboration with Action Aid-India.

3. Minority Women Empowerment in collaboration with CWS-Hyderabad.
4. Water and Sanitation in collaboration with UNICEF & RWS-AP.
5. School Sanitation in collaboration with UNICEF.
6. Vocational Training Courses on Tailoring and Embroidery with Local contributions
7. HIV/AIDS Awareness Camps with Local contributions
8. Awareness Camps on NREGS-AP with Local contributions.
FUTURE PERSPECTIVES:
CRESCENT RURAL DEVELOPMENT SOCIETY is progressing towards the upliftment of the
rural people particularly in economic self-sustainability. It is establishing linkages between
Teachers and Children, SHGs and banks, Farmers and Credit Institutions for their better
leading of lives. Our commitment is to provide sufficient financial assistance for their
sustainable development to enhance their living conditions and to bring cheers and light
into the lives of rural people.
STAFF:
The organization is having 29 members staff, which is required for Educational and
Development activities. Besides this the organization have 8 volunteers located in their
respective villages.
