Cradle Vs PET Bottles
According journalist Eric Goldschein, the United States drank 9 billion gallons of water in 2008
(Business Insider). Therefore, in order to prevent access waste and build up of plastic from the water
bottles, many different varieties of reusable water bottles on the market today advertise the message
of an eco–friendly product. This message, however, can be easily adulterated and twisted in the
manufacturer's favor for simply business purposes, thus promoting bottles that have only the perk of
being used many times before they are eventually discarded, ultimately falsifying the term
"reusable". When compared to the message of perpetual reusability, as well as the "five steps to eco–
effectiveness," put forth in the book Cradle to Cradle ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although reusable plastics are more resistant to the factors that cause this limitation, it does not
mean plastic products fall prey to off gassing. Factors such as sun exposure, microwave radiation,
and the heat from being washed in a dishwasher all help contribute to plastic off gassing. Some
BPA–free reusable bottles have even been found to contain and release estrogen–like synthetics that
are even more harmful than the ever feared BPA. Reusable bottles also have a mechanical flaw:
structure. Despite their impact resistant guarantee, if they hit a surface hard enough they can, and
will crack. Obviously if the bottle gains a major structural flaw such as a crack it is going to be
thrown away by the owner and find itself in a landfill amongst its PET cousins, free to leak its
chemicals into the surrounding environment.
Bottle manufacturers should stop using plastic in general. Plastic bottles, especially PET plastic
bottles, have a nasty tendency to off gas, thus releasing dangerous chemicals into the users drink.
These chemicals rage from antimony to phthalates, as well as other endocrine disrupters and
synthetic estrogens. This leaching of harmful chemicals is the cause of the plastic bottles popularity
decline. Nonetheless, there are many other styles of drink bottle to choose from, ranging from glass
to stainless

Negative Effects Of Water Bottles
Not many people think that drinking an innocent water bottle causes such a major effect. Water
bottles in our society have such a great effect that people don't even realize it. When you throw away
a water bottle, it's harmless right? Well, you're wrong if you think it doesn't harm the earth. Many
people don't consider to start recycling, but should start because of how it protects the environment,
as to just throwing away the water bottles. In addition, using water bottles yet is a good decision
because if you use the water fountains, it is just basically faucet water. Yet, i think water bottles
should not be used in our society. To start with, article "Goodbye, Bottled Water?", it introduces you
to the importance of how bottled water negatively affects the environment. Whenever you throw
away a water bottle, you're causing more harm to the environment. Water bottles are made up of
plastic, so when it goes to the landfills, it is releasing chemicals that aren't supposed to be released
onto earth. The author of the article uses logos and ethos to get the reader to understand how
negative the impact of water bottles are. The way the author uses logos is because he uses facts,
talking about the amount of bottles are in landfills and also the harm it causes earth. The author also
uses ethos because of the mayor of San Francisco, he understands the information about plastic
bottles. Since he deals with the city's landfill and manages the city, he himself has information on
the situation.
In the text it states, "According to a statement from the Mayor's office, 'More than 1 billion plastic
water bottles end up in California's landfills each year, taking 1,000 years to biodegrade and leaking
toxic additives such as phthalates into the groundwater.'" (Hennessey) In other words, this is proving
how the article is using both logos, talking about the statistics of plastic water bottles.
The article "Water, Water Everywhere–in bottles" talks about how customers who buy the water
bottles, cannot go a day without having one because of how much they are used to having the water
bottles. For example it says, "In a December poll by Mintel, 29% of bottled water drinkers said they
would 'feel strange' not always having

Pros And Cons Of Plastic Water Bottles
United States is the leading country on a global scale that produces and consumes millions of
gallons of water annually. Oil, a limited and expensive resource, is used in the process of creating
polyethylene terephthalate (PET) plastic water bottles which is generally regarded as a safe and
recyclable packaging material. (Palliser, 2010) The process of manufacturing bottled water to meet
the United States' demand uses more than 17 million barrels of oil annually. (Ban the Bottle, 2014)
The following examples will help to visualize how much of valuable, natural resources are used: in
a year, the energy used to produce bottled water is enough to power 190,000 homes and the millions
of barrels of oil used is enough to fuel 1.3 million cars. (Ban ... Show more content on

According to a four–year, detailed investigation to evaluate the quality and safety of bottled water
conducted by an environmental advocacy group, the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC),
traces of various chemicals (THMs such as chloroform and BDCM, both probable human
carcinogens) and arsenic were discovered in high levels. Another chemical found in PET plastic
bottles is antimony that is harmless in small doses but in larger doses can cause nausea, vomiting,
and death. (Ban the Bottle, 2014) A senior scientist at the NRDC, Dr. Gina Solomon told The New
York Times that "there is no reason to believe that bottled water is safer than tap water." (Ban the
Bottle, 2014) Public water in the U.S. is heavily regulated by the Environmental Protection Agency
(EPA) because they require numerous tests for bacteria daily which are available to the public. The
Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regulates bottled water and only require tests on a weekly
basis and does not share their discoveries with neither the public nor EPA. (Ban the Bottle,

Water Bottle Problems In Windham Middle School
Water Bottle Problems There has been many water bottle situations in the past month at Windham
Middle School. People have been getting in trouble and sometimes having fun or enjoyment, also
they have been trying to get revenge on students who have been mean to them. Kids in Windham
Middle School have also been wasting water by dumping them or just disposing them with water
inside it. Many people have been flipping water bottles for the fun of it, but there are some people
wasting water. Also, many people have been flipping the water bottles and getting in trouble because

Do really want to pay extra money for just filtered tap water that pollutes the earth, if you don't want
to, then STOP buying bottled water. For just that one bottle to be made, it caused pollution in the
earth.
Plastic water bottles cause pollution in the earth. Pollution is not good to breath in, it could lead to
severe lung damage. Pollution is also really bad for the earth. If we keep polluting our planet, it will
be bad for future generations and the world will not look like the way it looks now. We should quit
polluting the earth now because pollution can even kill plants and any types of animals.
Another reason why plastic water bottles should be banned is because it is just filtered tap water.

Water Bottles Persuasive Essay
Hey mom, can you pass me a cold bottle of water please? I bet you never thought that this simple
question could be so dangerous, well it is. Throughout my readings of the sales and dangers of water
bottles, I've learned that the sales of water are on track to outsell soda, which can be harmful to the
environment, because of plastic waste . Bottles of water or water bottles in itself can be harmful to
the environment because they aren't biodegradable, some people see through the harm that water
bottles can create within the environment and claim the water is healthy and has high economic
benefits. Given that, bottled water is frowned upon on many college campuses and at least 18
national parks, including the Grand Canyon and Mount Rushmore, which prohibit the sale of bottled
water stated in Mark Esteri August 27,2015 Water,Water Everywhere in Bottle with a flood of new
brands, water is on track to outsell soda by 2017. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Despite the obvious when it comes to the environment, bottled water companies are reducing their
environmental footprint by lightweight in general their products and developing new technologies in
product packaging, such as the use of recycled content, biodegradable and compostable materials
reported by "IBWA STATEMENT REGARDING MARYLAND'S DECISION TO RESTRICT
STATE EMPLOYEE ACCESS TO BOTTLED WATER". Bottled water containers are 100%
recyclable and recycling rate have doubled in the past five years. Gail Hennessey, mentioned that
the bottled water industry is always at the forefront of relief efforts during natural disasters, boil

Lauria's 'Defense Of Water Bottle'
To people, water bottles can be viewed as a portable refreshing beverage or a disgraceful
accumulative waste. In "Defense of Water Bottle", Lauria states that the ban of water bottles only
damages one's health and environment. This is a cause of people's preference to drink other
beverages such as soda and energy drinks, beverages that require more energy to produce than water
bottles. As a consequence, one's health diminishes because there is no alternative choices other than
sugary sweets. Lauria's use of evidence and logic, strongly strengthens her claim to dissuade the ban
of water bottles. By knowing her audience, she uses non–confusing evidence to help her argument
such as "more than one–half of people would choose soda instead" (1).

Water Drinks : The Dangers Of Water Bottles
Today water bottles are sold all over the world, and about 1,000 bottles are consumed every second.
In fact, it has been reported that 200 billion water bottles are sold globally gathering 60 billion
dollars. Additionally, bottled water was created for being portable, because of poor tap water quality,
safety and health concerns, and as a substitute for sugary drinks. In contrast, bottled water shouldn't
be around anymore because they have become a health and environmental issue. In contrast, water
bottles have been proven to be hazardous to human health due to the large number of chemicals
found in them. Most of the bottles cannot be recycled, which means they stay in the landfill
releasing chemicals into the soil and air, and parts of the bottles find their way into the ocean
harming the marine life.
It is ironic that water bottles were brought up for safer and purer water, but has an exceedingly
number of chemicals. In the U.S, there are an abundance of organizations that deem what are safe
for humans to consume. The Federal Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regulate bottled water,
however tap water is overseen by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), which has higher
standards than the FDA meaning some bottles aren't even approved to rinse your hands with. More
importantly, bottled waters contain contaminates, chemical contaminates, pesticides, disinfectants,
and radioactive materials. Equally important, bottled water has contaminants of Coliform (rod–

Disadvantages Of Drinking Water Bottles
Littering is another problem with these bottles. When people get done using them they just throw
them on the ground, for example, if you go to a ball game and you see everyone drinking Gatorade,
soda, or water and then stay after and you will see all those bottles in the bleachers and on the field
from the players. You start to realize that know one really cares about the environment anyone.
Water bottles or just bottles in general are a big cause on the environment. Although many people do
not care, littering causes a lot of harm to the environment and not many people realize it. Even
though drinking bottle water is widely known as a good choice for your health it comes with great
conflicts. Many schools all around sell bottles of water out of vending machines, although this can
be a bad thing for the environment, but it also helps students from drinking sugary soda. Even
though there are benefits to drinking and using bottled water, there are also many drawbacks.
Bottled water can be healthy, but also just drinking from a water fountain can help yourself and the
environment. Not many people want to drink community fountains because of the germs and all the
people that use them. Even though water is a great need for humans, they normally want to go the
easy way; the bottled water way. Water fountains do have many causes of them, germs that it
collects, and some even lack filtration systems. Bottled water and other plastics can have many
effects, although people have

Are You Choosing The Right Feeding Bottle For Your Baby? Here's Your Complete Guide
Watching my nephew grow up from a whiny newborn to a super charged–up toddler, I realized one
thing about babies: They require extra care (AT. EVERY. STEP.); Even a task as simple as buying a
bottle isn't that simple when it comes to babies, especially first borns (new parents, dig me?). You
will be glad to know that until your baby starts consuming solids, there's a long road that can be
covered smoothly with bottle feeding.
However, once your little munchkin has turned over six months of age and you wish to introduce

By far the most widely used material in baby bottles, plastic is affordable, lightweight and can be
moulded into different designs and shapes. Plastic baby bottles are so common that you can spot at
least one in nine out of ten households with infants. However, the use of these bottles declined with
the spread of awareness of BPA content present in them. You'll be glad to know that in 2012, FDA
banned the use of BPA in baby bottles and sippy cups. To make sure, you can also look for BPA–

Pros of using plastic baby bottle:
Lightweight
Affordable
Resistant to breakage
Easy to store
Doesn't sweat

Argumentative Essay On Water Bottles
Water Bottles Since the 1990's Americans are drinking less soft drinks and are now consuming more
bottled water than ever. Currently, Americans are drinking over 50% more bottled water than they
did in 2001 (theatlantic.com). A reason for this could be that more Americans are aware of the health
issues soft drinks create. Although the resurgence and emphasis on a healthier society is a positive
aspect of the popularity of water bottles, it does also bring negative aspects. For example, 80 million
bottles of water are sold daily in the US daily which means that 80 million plastic bottles need to be
disposed. Recycling is what many people believe combats the issue of disposing of so many water
bottles but only 20% of those plastic bottles actually get recycled leaving the other 80% to end up in
the ocean or even a landfill. This harms the environment, as landfills tend to remove the oxygen
from the ground and release methane, a greenhouse gas, harming the ozone layer. A depleting ozone
layer causes global warming, the ice caps to melt, and an increased risk in skin cancer. As for the
oceans, the plastic bottles degrade then conjoin to create plastic masses as large as the state of Texas.
This harms the coral reef and not only pollutes the ocean but also people's food supply as many fish
ingest the plastic then people ingests the fish. Although water bottles harm the environment, there
are many positives of having bottled water. For example, many Americans work around 40 hours a
week with an average commute lasting 26 minutes (thewahsingtonpost.com). This creates a need for
an on–the–go drink and bottled water is an affordable healthy choice. Also in April of 2014, the Flint
Water crisis began and is continuing today. The citizens of Flint cannot drink the water in their
faucets and humans need to drink water to survive. Many of the citizens in Flint, Michigan are of
lower socioeconomic standing and cannot afford to move out of the city as they do not have the
income to purchase a new home and there is no resell value in their house as they do not even have
water. This means that those people must rely on bottled water in order to have clean drinking water.

Drinking Out Of A Water Bottle
The water bottle we all know today was patented on May 15, 1973. It was a weird idea right?
Putting water in a plastic bottle and selling it to people. Although it seems like an insignificant
invention it has become an important staple of today 's modern society. Everywhere I turn I see
people drinking out of a water bottle whether it 's an athlete after a run, a child after a long day of
play, or a worker at lunch time. Many people would look at the development of this new item as a
great advancement in our society. Water is necessary for our body to be productive and successful
but at what cost to our habitat? I am choosing a water bottle as my cultural artifact not only because
of how prevalent they are in our world but because they will have an even greater effect on our
environment in years to come. The big push to drink bottled water came in the 90's. The Coke and
Pepsi businesses were booming and so was obesity. These major companies were being criticised for
selling such sugary unhealthy drinks and didn't know what they could do to make the public happy
without losing money. Selling bottled water was the perfect solution to their problem. Years before a
new technology allowed plastic to be lighter, cheaper, and clearer. This plastic was called PET
plastic and made it easy for Coke and Pepsi to get into the bottled water business. Millions of dollars
were spent advertising this new product. This water was healthier, cleaner, crisper, and more pure.

Persuasive Essay About Water Bottles
Water bottles have not always been around and ever since their popularity began the debate over
whether or not people should have them has been a controversial topic. Some argue that they not
only create unneeded pollution, but are also unnecessary since tap water is available. While some
say this, others will counter by discussing the benefits of having a healthy option for a drink on the
go. Using water bottles is a means to help people have easier access to a healthy vital life necessity
no matter where someone might be. First, some people that do not believe in the use of water bottles
would look at one that has one and be absolutely disgusted, but what is all the fuss about? To begin

This may be a good idea, but the reality of the situation is that most people would not take the
money that was spent on water and give it to charity; instead, they would use it to buy something
else that they want. For this reason and so many more, getting rid of the bottled water industry is
simply not the answer. Creating foundations and proceeds from buying certain products is a better
option to ensure that developing countries are getting the help they need while still being able to
keep bottled water on the shelf for purchase; for example for each case of water purchased a portion
of the money will go towards helping to get clean water to certain countries. Overall, the good
outweighs the bad when it comes to discussing the need of water bottles, and by using them people
can always have an important life necessity; hopefully in the future when people purchase any brand
of water they can feel that they are doing good for countries by knowing that some of the cost went
towards helping others receive not only water but essentially a better

The Ban On Water Bottles
The Ban On Water Bottles
In the essay in the schools newspaper, "Vote Yes On The Water Bottle Ban" the writers, The
Crimson Staff uses their platform to tell people why they should vote "yes" on the water bottle ban
on college campuses. The reason being is because they stated, "As the EAC notes on its homepage,
the production of bottled water releases millions of tons of harmful chemicals such as CO2, – into
the environment", using logos because what was said were facts. As stated above, the Crimson Staff
wants water bottles to be banned because they are trying to make the plant better. They clearly state
and have several examples of how if people do not vote "yes" on the water bottle ban it will turn bad
for our planet.
The writers of this essay did not beat around the brush they got straight to the point of their essay.

Some evidence was them saying "After the water's consumption, those very same bottles often end

putting the blame on the reader to make them feel bad in hopes they will try to do better. They are
establishing creditability by stating actual facts instead of just saying random things just to get their
point across. This was an economical issue that caused this entire essay, because they writers
assumes if the students on the campus has less access to water bottles then there will be less
pollution going around. They are not completely trying to take away water on campus. Some other
options they gave students were more water fountains on campus since there will be less places to

Water Bottles And Water Bottle Controversy
"There are over a billion people on this planet who do not have access to clean drinking water." –
Michael Moore (Brainy Quotes). This quote alone says a great deal about the tap water versus water
bottle controversy. Bottled water, although convenient and may seem like the healthiest choice, is
not the case. People look at water bottles and automatically assume it is perfectly clean because it
looks crystal clear or it may even say it, but everyone should look deeper. People do not seem to see
how truly blessed we are as a country to have such wonderment. There are people who have no
clean drinking water at all. More than $100 billion dollars every year is spent on water bottles,
according to National
Geographic. If the world is spending this amount of money on something just because everyone
assumes it is the cleanest kind of water, and it is convenient, think of how many other ways we
could use that money. According to Water.org, there are 358 million people without any access to
water in
Africa. If we spent as much money as we do on water bottles to help send fresh, clean water over to
those in need of it, think of all the good we could do. People in third world countries are dying of
thirst, when we in America are not drinking all the water out of our water bottles and cups. "A 2008
investigation by the nonprofit Environmental Working Group found some bottled water is sullied

What is convenient? What is classroom appropriate? What is cleaner? The answer to all of these
questions is bottled water. The school board should provide bottled water in every classroom for the
following reasons. The first reason the school board should provide individual bottles of water in
every classroom is because they're convenient. Water bottles fit in every schoolbag, and are very
light to carry. You can take water bottles with you anywhere. "You can take a water bottle on a
journey, and you have water at your fingertips," (flourishonline.com, Jim Jewell). It is good that
water bottles are portable because lack of water causes "dehydration, which in turn causes nausea
and fatigue," (Valerie G., paragraph 2). From personal experience, dehydration/lack of water makes
it hard to focus on work or even participate in daily school activities, such as PE. Water is important
to have throughout the day, and water bottles help do that. While some people may say that water

Abstract Bottle rockets, people see them as middle school science projects where kids have fun and
build little rockets. Actually there is a lot behind bottle rockets, it's more than just throw some
plastic bottle together and glue some wings to it and fly it. The researcher chose this topic because in
his class they are doing the bottle rocket project and he wanted to find out which rocket was more
efficient for hang time. So the experimenter built some rockets and launched them and gathered the
results. In this paper there is some history of rocketry ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A good water rocket has a lot of qualities and one of them is hang time a good rocket has a good
hang time. The problem is not a lot of people know how to make a rocket with good hang time and
neither did the researcher. He wanted to find out what dimensions of a rocket would make it have a
great hang time.
Before you go into building a rocket for hang time the researcher advises to build a stable rocket
first. "One important factor in designing a stable rocket is considering the stability of the bottles
used. Different bottles have different natural stabilities. Bottles with a short center–section and a
long neck have a naturally high center of gravity. High, that is, if it is used as a rocket; low if the
bottle is sitting on a shelf. Newer bottles are designed this way, because they are less likely to tip
over. When we flip the bottle upside–down, to be used as a rocket, this shape works to our benefit,
because the center of gravity is already high in the rocket, resulting in smaller fins and less weight
that has to be added to make a stable rocket." (Singleton IV, 2001)
There are different types of bottle rockets, for different purposes. The type of rocket we want to
build is called a backslider "Backsliders are the rockets that are modified so that at apogee, instead
of flipping over and heading for the ground, they float back in a higher drag configuration than a
nose–dive. This set includes true backsliders which actually fall vertically

condensation polymerization of bis 2–hydroxyethyl terephthalate is carried out in a vacuum at 530
degrees Fahrenheit (275 degrees Celsius) and results in chains of PET and ethylene glycol (see step
#1 above); the latter substance is continuously removed during polymerization and used to make
more PET. After the PET mixture reaches the required viscosity (thickness), it is cooled to avoid
degradation and discoloration. Later, it can be reheated for its various

Persuasive Essay On Refillable Water Bottles
The reason for millions of people using plastic water bottles is that everyone needs to drink water.
However, many people do not know that a plastic bottle can be more harmful than beneficial for the
drinker's health. Refillable water bottles (which may be plastic but are made for refillable use)
should be used instead of plastic bottles because they are cheaper, healthier, and better for the Earth.
Refillable water bottles may seem expensive, but in the long run it will be much cheaper. "On
average, Americans spend about $5 a week on bottled water, this means you can save $260 per year
by switching to a reusable water bottle" (Speer par. 5). This statistic shows just how much the
average American (the world wide statistic was not available) can save yearly, let alone in a lifetime.
This statistic also does not include the average money a year a person spends on soda pop, tea,
coffee, or other drinks that could be put into the refillable bottle if they are bought in bulk. Many
people say they do not have money to buy a nice refillable water bottle, but most people do have the
money it would take to buy an eight dollar Contigo refillable bottle from Walmart that would do the
job. Up to one fifth of Americans have tap water that is not drinkable (Karp par. 1). However, there
are refillable water bottles with filters. Refillable water bottles with filters may be more expensive,
but it is easy to find a cheap one at Walmart. For example someone could buy a ten dollar Brita filter
water bottle. Investing in a refillable bottle will already save someone money after one month of
use.
Refilling a plastic bottle can have unforeseen consequences. Using a refillable water bottle is better
for the drinker's health than drinking out of plastic bottles only meant to be used once because they
are not good quality."Plastic bottles contain a harmful substance called polyethylene terephthalate,
or PET, which is dangerous to human health" ("Think" par. 2). If that is not a serious enough reason,
there are even more chemicals that are found in plastic bottles. "BPA has been connected to cases of
hormonal issues and even cancer" (Speer par. 4). No one should be consuming harmful chemicals.
Use of plastic bottles, whether for

The Controversy Of Banning Water Bottles
Many people around the world would like to call for an end of plastic bottles because they produce a
lot of waste. They say that tap water is the answer, but they couldn't be farther from the truth.
Banning water bottles would do more damage than good in the long run. It would be inconsiderate
of people with mental illnesses and disabilities, makes it much harder to be able to give large
amounts of water to the people who don't have access to it, would make things so much more
difficult after some sort of natural disaster, and would make it very unfair to the water manufacturers
to ban water bottles but not ban other bottled drinks. The real answer to the problem is to make
bottles out of a biodegradable material so it will be less harmful ... Show more content on

In many European countries bottled water is taxed and when you turn those bottles in to be recycled,
that money is then returned to the buyer. This is great incentive to recycle because people love
money and usually do not recycle simply out of laziness. There is a biodegradable water bottle in the
process of being made right now and it will truly change everything if it gets mass produced. "What
makes this mix of algae and water an interesting solution is the lifespan of the bottle," Jónsson told
Adele Peters at Fast Company. "It needs to contain liquid to keep its shape and as soon as it's empty
it will start to decompose." This bottle will benefit people and the environment, which is amazing
because those two things don't seem to usually get

Survival Uses for Plastic Bottles 1.) Fish Trap
This works best with a two liter bottle because of the size. First, cut the top off to create a funnel.
Then you cut the threaded neck off to create a bigger opening in the funnel or leave it in its original
state depending on what size fish you want to trap.
Then push the cut top into the bottom portion. You can punch holes through both pieces and secure
together with fishing line. Punch holes in the bottle and the bottom to allow for water flow.
The fish swim in the enlarged end and are funneled into the bottom portion. Once in they cannot
swim back out. You can cut a flap in the bottom of the trap to release any fish you do not want.

It can be used as a serving container or water cup or used for other purposes.
8.) Water Storage
This one is rather obvious but it needs to be mentioned. Remember to thoroughly clean the container
before storing drinking water and mark the date if possible on the outside. A 10:1 solution of water
and bleach can be used to sanitize the inside.
9.) Fill with Clear Water to Create Light in Your Shelter
Fill as many as need and secure in your shelter walls and particularly in the roof to allow light in
during the day. It will be dark inside even during the day so to save on batteries or to save fire fuel
you can use the bottles to allow sunlight in without allowing cold in or allowing heat to escape.
10.) Food Scoop
Cut the top off and then clean and dry well and then use as a scoop for ice cubes, grains, sugar, flour
or even for pet food.
Miscellaneous Uses around the Home or Camp
Storage of dry foods, grains, beans and so on.
Cut the top off and use the bottom for growing or seed starting. For seed starting you can start the

Plastic Water Bottles Persuasive Essay
In 2015 the average American used about 167 plastic water bottles but only recycled about 38 of
those 167 (banthebottle.net). This shows that every year, the average person purchases a large
amount of plastic water bottles but only recycles around ⅓ of them. The energy thrown away in
plastic water bottles would be enough to power 190,000 homes (banthebottle.net). This means that,
while some people do not even have enough power to turn on the lights in their house, energy is just
being thrown away instead of being recycled. Should people use less plastic water bottles? Yes,
people should use less plastic water bottles. The history and supporting information do relate to the
Catholic Social Teaching theme of Care for God's Creation because Americans use so many plastic

Water Bottles And Its Effects On Human Health
Water bottles have become a staple in American life. Often times we will buy a bottle with lunch
because it is healthier than the advertised alternative, soda. In reality, while water bottles may be
healthier than soda, they can cause the same, if not more, damage in the long term. The plastic used
for water and soda bottles alike have drastic effects on both human health and the environment but
water bottles are worse because they are a completely unnecessary product. In America a majority of
citizens have access to clean tap water which they neglect to use for various reasons, despite it
potentially being safer. Water bottles, despite what companies have convinced you to think, are
actually terrible for the environment and can have adverse health effects.
Let's begin by talking about the damage caused by water bottle production. First, there is a massive
waste of water just to produce the bottle. According to environmental journalist Norm Schriever, it
takes three times the volume of water to manufacture one bottle of water than it does to fill it. The
sad part is that the water is used during the chemical production phase of plastic development,
leaving the water mostly unusable due to remnant chemicals from the process. Besides wasting
precious, limited water, bottled water production also wastes copious amounts of oil. 17 million
barrels of oil are used to produce roughly 50 billion water bottles each year. That amount of oil is
equivalent to filling a million cars for

Negative Effects Of Plastic Water Bottles
For as long as I can remember, my family has always purchased plastic water bottles and until
recently, I have taken a new stance on them. As a student at Texas Tech University, one of my spring
classes this past semester opened my eyes to the negative aspects of plastic water bottles. Within the
class, I watched the documentary "Tapped" by Jason Lindsey and Stephanie Soechtig, which
focused specifically on the bottled water industry. Even though plastic water bottles are highly
popular in first and developing countries, recent evidence shows drastic consequences in both
environmental and health related topics.
Today plastic water bottles are putting a strain on the environment and highlighting their wasteful
properties. A study by Brita, a water filtration company, shows that "Americans discard 38 billion
plastic water bottles a year, and it takes 1.5 billion barrels of oil to produce them" (York 2). The
amount of oil that is being used to produce the plastic of bottled water can be used elsewhere like
gasoline for cars and electricity for homes. Even though the plastic from bottled water is recyclable,
The Container Recycling Institute (CR1) states that "eight out of 10 water bottles end up in
landfills" and end up being washed into streams and oceans (Knopper 36). CR1 also states that
"only 14 percent of plastic water bottles purchased annually in the U.S. are recycled" (Burbank 23).
This study produced by CR1 proves that people still are not recycling their bottled

The Benefits Of Plastic Bottles
Introduction: Have you ever wondered where plastic bottles goes after being use, Guess what? I
have the answer for that. Most plastic bottles go to a landfill, and only 23% get recycled (Bottle of
water fact). Most of the bottles that don't get recycle end up in Great Pacific Garbage Patch, which is
located to the west of North America to Japan or it can end up at a landfill (live life healthy). As
result it is a huge problem for the environment. One reason is that plastic takes hundreds of years to
decompose and it also contains bad chemicals like biphobes which can alter the function of the
human's endocrine system. Biphobes can alter the function of the endocrine system by copying the
role of the body's natural hormones. The chemicals that plastic has doesn't only affect humans,
plastic also affects the environment. Disposing of bottles is a huge problem today's world. All
landfills around the world are getting to their limit. therefore, people need to reduce the waste of
disposal. This is the reason why I have created a new method to help conserve our planet. Product
description I have created the most fantastic bottles in the entire world. These bottles will reduce the
waste of disposing of plastic bottles. These bottles are called Symeco Smart bottles. These bottles
have many capabilities that will attract a lot of people, the most important part of these bottles is that

The Bottle Bill
Introduction In the 2014 gubernational election, the second ballot question received plenty of
publicity. The bottle bill was up for a referendum, the question was based upon the expansion of the
bottle bill. The expansion involved the addition of several different vocabulary terms that were not
incorporated in the original bottle bill and adding several clauses to expand the effect of the bill. The
opposition believed that expanding the bottle bill is not the solution to the lacking recycling
resources available in the Commonwealth. The group for the expansion focused its campaign on the
projected impact this would have on littering and the economic benefit. I think both campaigns
failed to include recycling in the restaurant industry. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They also gained support from the Boston Globe and government officials such as Deval Patrick.
Original Bottle Bill vs Expansion
The original bottle bill was passed in 1981, after being vetoed by Governor Ed King. Three years
after the bottle bill passed, Massachusetts had recycled thirty five billion containers ( ). MassPrig led
a coalition to gain legislature support to ensure the passing of the bottle bill. The bottle bill was
created into three sections, Chapter 94 Section 321, Chapter 94 Section 322, and Chapter 94 Section
323. Section 321 laid out the definitions for the legal terms used to create the concepts in the two
sections that follow. Section 322 states the bottle deposit amount and what it covers. Section 323
and it's sub–sections outlined the provisions for the distributors to follow when selling plastic
containers, the appropriate way to accept recyclable items from a consumer, and what the state
would do with business that are below their quota ( ). In 2003, Mitt Romney led an effort to utilize
forfeited nickel deposits as a supplement to the state's general fund instead of the environmental
funded created under the original bottle bill. The proposed bottle bill expansion wanted to expand
the definition of "beverage." The new definition would include non–carbonated and non–alcoholic
beverages intended for human consumption. They also wanted to add the definition of a redemption
center and a smaller to the

Pros And Cons Of Water Bottle Fliping
Water bottle flipping is not only beneficial for kids, but is also beneficial for parents. These next few
paragraphs will describe positive things about water bottle flipping. One pro is that water bottle
flipping is affordable. Another pro is that it gets kids off technology. The last pro is that is gives kids
confidence. Challenge your kids to see how many times they can land it in a row.
First off, water bottle flipping is affordable. According to Katie Smith " Just one bottle and a small

Kids would be hanging out with friends. They would be having fun flipping bottles and cheering for
each other. They would be talking and not texting. Kids these days sit on technology, and most
adults don't like that. But yet they take away the things that make kids get off electronics. But I can
see why some people think it might hit use of technology. Some kids will sit and watch videos about
it. If you want to watch videos about water bottle flipping, watch one or two.
Third, it gives kids confidence. After kids work hard on mastering the flip, "they will be happy to
see there progress," stated Katie Smith. As kids work they get better at flipping the water bottle.
After that, they will get competitive and want to beat other kids at flipping. Also, after each skill
they will move to the next skill. That gives them confidence to get better and better at it. Kids will
get together and have fun. Inviting more people you don't know makes more friends.
Some people argue, what if the bottle breaks? Well then it breaks. How many times have you spilled
a glass of water? It is not like the water bottle is full. In fact, flipping water bottles is better for the
health of the Earth. It is better because you aren't throwing out as many bottles. If we would allow
kids to flip bottles, there would be less environmental waste. You can use a bottle till it

The Importance Of Plastic Bottles
Plastic Bottles? Not In My State Imagine walking through the streets of the city that you love and
grew up in. It is filled with beautiful scenery, buildings, and has a rich history with many memories
attached. The only problem is, there are plastic bottles lining the streets. Since plastic is not
biodegradable, this could potentially be everyone's future if changes are not made now. Many states
in America have implemented bottle bills, but there are also many states that have decided to not be
a part of the bottle bill trend. Every state in America should implement a bottle bill to improve the
economy and the environment.
In the article, "Recycling" Found on the website "Opposing Viewpoints In Context", the definition
of a bottle bill is given: Bottle bills are laws that require a surcharge, usually a nickel or a dime, to
be charged on certain beverages (beer, soda, sometimes bottled water). This money is collected by
sellers and bottlers. When consumers return the beverage containers, they are given back the deposit
in cash. The first bottle bill in North America was passed in the Canadian province of British
Columbia in 1970; in 1971, Oregon became the first U.S. state to pass a deposit law. By 1985, 10
states had passed deposit laws. Hawaii became the eleventh state with such a law in 2005. At that
time, about 30% of the U.S. population lived in a deposit–law state.
Now there are only 11 states in America that have bottle bills, which also means there are 39 states

Bottled Water Bottles In The United States
In the United States, it is estimated that humans consumed an average of 400 billion gallons of water
every day, while some countries can barely survive with the water they currently have. It is also
estimated that over 780 million people don't have access to clean safe water and have to rely on
other sources to survive. The main source for clean water is consuming plastic water bottles. While
there are many pros to purchasing and consuming bottled water there many cons and possible risks.
While over 50 billion plastic water bottles are produced each year, but only about 23 percent in the
United States is recycled. That is roughly about 38 billion water bottles; more than $1 billion worth

Bisphenol A: The Problems With Plastic Bottles
The Problem With Plastic Bottles
There are a lot of problems with using plastic water bottles. One of those problems is Bisphenol A
(BPA). A lot of health problems have been heavily linked to BPA, including brain problems,
premature birth, less fertility in women, defects in newborn babies, and some types of cancer. There
was a study which showed that 96% of women had BPA in their bodies. Water bottles also have
phthalates. Phthalates are used to make polyvinyl chloride (PVC), which makes bottles more

Cradle Vs PET Bottles

  • 1. Cradle Vs PET Bottles According journalist Eric Goldschein, the United States drank 9 billion gallons of water in 2008 (Business Insider). Therefore, in order to prevent access waste and build up of plastic from the water bottles, many different varieties of reusable water bottles on the market today advertise the message of an eco–friendly product. This message, however, can be easily adulterated and twisted in the manufacturer's favor for simply business purposes, thus promoting bottles that have only the perk of being used many times before they are eventually discarded, ultimately falsifying the term "reusable". When compared to the message of perpetual reusability, as well as the "five steps to eco– effectiveness," put forth in the book Cradle to Cradle ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Although reusable plastics are more resistant to the factors that cause this limitation, it does not mean plastic products fall prey to off gassing. Factors such as sun exposure, microwave radiation, and the heat from being washed in a dishwasher all help contribute to plastic off gassing. Some BPA–free reusable bottles have even been found to contain and release estrogen–like synthetics that are even more harmful than the ever feared BPA. Reusable bottles also have a mechanical flaw: structure. Despite their impact resistant guarantee, if they hit a surface hard enough they can, and will crack. Obviously if the bottle gains a major structural flaw such as a crack it is going to be thrown away by the owner and find itself in a landfill amongst its PET cousins, free to leak its chemicals into the surrounding environment. Bottle manufacturers should stop using plastic in general. Plastic bottles, especially PET plastic bottles, have a nasty tendency to off gas, thus releasing dangerous chemicals into the users drink. These chemicals rage from antimony to phthalates, as well as other endocrine disrupters and synthetic estrogens. This leaching of harmful chemicals is the cause of the plastic bottles popularity decline. Nonetheless, there are many other styles of drink bottle to choose from, ranging from glass to stainless ... • 5. Negative Effects Of Water Bottles Not many people think that drinking an innocent water bottle causes such a major effect. Water bottles in our society have such a great effect that people don't even realize it. When you throw away a water bottle, it's harmless right? Well, you're wrong if you think it doesn't harm the earth. Many people don't consider to start recycling, but should start because of how it protects the environment, as to just throwing away the water bottles. In addition, using water bottles yet is a good decision because if you use the water fountains, it is just basically faucet water. Yet, i think water bottles should not be used in our society. To start with, article "Goodbye, Bottled Water?", it introduces you to the importance of how bottled water negatively affects the environment. Whenever you throw away a water bottle, you're causing more harm to the environment. Water bottles are made up of plastic, so when it goes to the landfills, it is releasing chemicals that aren't supposed to be released onto earth. The author of the article uses logos and ethos to get the reader to understand how negative the impact of water bottles are. The way the author uses logos is because he uses facts, talking about the amount of bottles are in landfills and also the harm it causes earth. The author also uses ethos because of the mayor of San Francisco, he understands the information about plastic bottles. Since he deals with the city's landfill and manages the city, he himself has information on the situation. In the text it states, "According to a statement from the Mayor's office, 'More than 1 billion plastic water bottles end up in California's landfills each year, taking 1,000 years to biodegrade and leaking toxic additives such as phthalates into the groundwater.'" (Hennessey) In other words, this is proving how the article is using both logos, talking about the statistics of plastic water bottles. The article "Water, Water Everywhere–in bottles" talks about how customers who buy the water bottles, cannot go a day without having one because of how much they are used to having the water bottles. For example it says, "In a December poll by Mintel, 29% of bottled water drinkers said they would 'feel strange' not always having ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. Pros And Cons Of Plastic Water Bottles United States is the leading country on a global scale that produces and consumes millions of gallons of water annually. Oil, a limited and expensive resource, is used in the process of creating polyethylene terephthalate (PET) plastic water bottles which is generally regarded as a safe and recyclable packaging material. (Palliser, 2010) The process of manufacturing bottled water to meet the United States' demand uses more than 17 million barrels of oil annually. (Ban the Bottle, 2014) The following examples will help to visualize how much of valuable, natural resources are used: in a year, the energy used to produce bottled water is enough to power 190,000 homes and the millions of barrels of oil used is enough to fuel 1.3 million cars. (Ban ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... According to a four–year, detailed investigation to evaluate the quality and safety of bottled water conducted by an environmental advocacy group, the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC), traces of various chemicals (THMs such as chloroform and BDCM, both probable human carcinogens) and arsenic were discovered in high levels. Another chemical found in PET plastic bottles is antimony that is harmless in small doses but in larger doses can cause nausea, vomiting, and death. (Ban the Bottle, 2014) A senior scientist at the NRDC, Dr. Gina Solomon told The New York Times that "there is no reason to believe that bottled water is safer than tap water." (Ban the Bottle, 2014) Public water in the U.S. is heavily regulated by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) because they require numerous tests for bacteria daily which are available to the public. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regulates bottled water and only require tests on a weekly basis and does not share their discoveries with neither the public nor EPA. (Ban the Bottle, ... • 26. Water Bottles Persuasive Essay Hey mom, can you pass me a cold bottle of water please? I bet you never thought that this simple question could be so dangerous, well it is. Throughout my readings of the sales and dangers of water bottles, I've learned that the sales of water are on track to outsell soda, which can be harmful to the environment, because of plastic waste . Bottles of water or water bottles in itself can be harmful to the environment because they aren't biodegradable, some people see through the harm that water bottles can create within the environment and claim the water is healthy and has high economic benefits. Given that, bottled water is frowned upon on many college campuses and at least 18 national parks, including the Grand Canyon and Mount Rushmore, which prohibit the sale of bottled water stated in Mark Esteri August 27,2015 Water,Water Everywhere in Bottle with a flood of new brands, water is on track to outsell soda by 2017. ... Bottled water containers are 100% recyclable and recycling rate have doubled in the past five years. • 30. Lauria's 'Defense Of Water Bottle' To people, water bottles can be viewed as a portable refreshing beverage or a disgraceful accumulative waste. In "Defense of Water Bottle", Lauria states that the ban of water bottles only damages one's health and environment. This is a cause of people's preference to drink other beverages such as soda and energy drinks, beverages that require more energy to produce than water bottles. As a consequence, one's health diminishes because there is no alternative choices other than sugary sweets. Lauria's use of evidence and logic, strongly strengthens her claim to dissuade the ban of water bottles. By knowing her audience, she uses non–confusing evidence to help her argument such as "more than one–half of people would choose soda instead" (1). ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 34. Water Drinks : The Dangers Of Water Bottles Today water bottles are sold all over the world, and about 1,000 bottles are consumed every second. In fact, it has been reported that 200 billion water bottles are sold globally gathering 60 billion dollars. Additionally, bottled water was created for being portable, because of poor tap water quality, safety and health concerns, and as a substitute for sugary drinks. In contrast, bottled water shouldn't be around anymore because they have become a health and environmental issue. In contrast, water bottles have been proven to be hazardous to human health due to the large number of chemicals found in them. Most of the bottles cannot be recycled, which means they stay in the landfill releasing chemicals into the soil and air, and parts of the bottles find their way into the ocean harming the marine life. It is ironic that water bottles were brought up for safer and purer water, but has an exceedingly number of chemicals. In the U.S, there are an abundance of organizations that deem what are safe for humans to consume. The Federal Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regulate bottled water, however tap water is overseen by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), which has higher standards than the FDA meaning some bottles aren't even approved to rinse your hands with. More importantly, bottled waters contain contaminates, chemical contaminates, pesticides, disinfectants, and radioactive materials. Equally important, bottled water has contaminants of Coliform (rod– shaped ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 38. Disadvantages Of Drinking Water Bottles Littering is another problem with these bottles. When people get done using them they just throw them on the ground, for example, if you go to a ball game and you see everyone drinking Gatorade, soda, or water and then stay after and you will see all those bottles in the bleachers and on the field from the players. You start to realize that know one really cares about the environment anyone. Water bottles or just bottles in general are a big cause on the environment. Although many people do not care, littering causes a lot of harm to the environment and not many people realize it. Even though drinking bottle water is widely known as a good choice for your health it comes with great conflicts. Many schools all around sell bottles of water out of vending machines, although this can be a bad thing for the environment, but it also helps students from drinking sugary soda. Even though there are benefits to drinking and using bottled water, there are also many drawbacks. Bottled water can be healthy, but also just drinking from a water fountain can help yourself and the environment. Not many people want to drink community fountains because of the germs and all the people that use them. Even though water is a great need for humans, they normally want to go the easy way; the bottled water way. Water fountains do have many causes of them, germs that it collects, and some even lack filtration systems. Bottled water and other plastics can have many effects, although people have ... Here's Your Complete Guide Watching my nephew grow up from a whiny newborn to a super charged–up toddler, I realized one thing about babies: They require extra care (AT. EVERY. You will be glad to know that until your baby starts consuming solids, there's a long road that can be covered smoothly with bottle feeding. • 46. Argumentative Essay On Water Bottles Water Bottles Since the 1990's Americans are drinking less soft drinks and are now consuming more bottled water than ever. Currently, Americans are drinking over 50% more bottled water than they did in 2001 (theatlantic.com). A reason for this could be that more Americans are aware of the health issues soft drinks create. Although the resurgence and emphasis on a healthier society is a positive aspect of the popularity of water bottles, it does also bring negative aspects. For example, 80 million bottles of water are sold daily in the US daily which means that 80 million plastic bottles need to be disposed. Recycling is what many people believe combats the issue of disposing of so many water bottles but only 20% of those plastic bottles actually get recycled leaving the other 80% to end up in the ocean or even a landfill. This harms the environment, as landfills tend to remove the oxygen from the ground and release methane, a greenhouse gas, harming the ozone layer. A depleting ozone layer causes global warming, the ice caps to melt, and an increased risk in skin cancer. As for the oceans, the plastic bottles degrade then conjoin to create plastic masses as large as the state of Texas. This harms the coral reef and not only pollutes the ocean but also people's food supply as many fish ingest the plastic then people ingests the fish. Although water bottles harm the environment, there are many positives of having bottled water. For example, many Americans work around 40 hours a week with an average commute lasting 26 minutes (thewahsingtonpost.com). This creates a need for an on–the–go drink and bottled water is an affordable healthy choice. Also in April of 2014, the Flint Water crisis began and is continuing today. The citizens of Flint cannot drink the water in their faucets and humans need to drink water to survive. Many of the citizens in Flint, Michigan are of lower socioeconomic standing and cannot afford to move out of the city as they do not have the income to purchase a new home and there is no resell value in their house as they do not even have water. This means that those people must rely on bottled water in order to have clean drinking water. Plastic bottles ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 50. Drinking Out Of A Water Bottle The water bottle we all know today was patented on May 15, 1973. It was a weird idea right? Putting water in a plastic bottle and selling it to people. Although it seems like an insignificant invention it has become an important staple of today 's modern society. Everywhere I turn I see people drinking out of a water bottle whether it 's an athlete after a run, a child after a long day of play, or a worker at lunch time. Many people would look at the development of this new item as a great advancement in our society. Water is necessary for our body to be productive and successful but at what cost to our habitat? I am choosing a water bottle as my cultural artifact not only because of how prevalent they are in our world but because they will have an even greater effect on our environment in years to come. The big push to drink bottled water came in the 90's. The Coke and Pepsi businesses were booming and so was obesity. These major companies were being criticised for selling such sugary unhealthy drinks and didn't know what they could do to make the public happy without losing money. Selling bottled water was the perfect solution to their problem. Years before a new technology allowed plastic to be lighter, cheaper, and clearer. This plastic was called PET plastic and made it easy for Coke and Pepsi to get into the bottled water business. Millions of dollars were spent advertising this new product. This water was healthier, cleaner, crisper, and more pure. We are all ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Persuasive Essay About Water Bottles Water bottles have not always been around and ever since their popularity began the debate over whether or not people should have them has been a controversial topic. Some argue that they not only create unneeded pollution, but are also unnecessary since tap water is available. While some say this, others will counter by discussing the benefits of having a healthy option for a drink on the go. Using water bottles is a means to help people have easier access to a healthy vital life necessity no matter where someone might be. To begin there has been studies that reveal that water bottles ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This may be a good idea, but the reality of the situation is that most people would not take the money that was spent on water and give it to charity; instead, they would use it to buy something else that they want. For this reason and so many more, getting rid of the bottled water industry is simply not the answer. Creating foundations and proceeds from buying certain products is a better option to ensure that developing countries are getting the help they need while still being able to keep bottled water on the shelf for purchase; for example for each case of water purchased a portion of the money will go towards helping to get clean water to certain countries. Overall, the good outweighs the bad when it comes to discussing the need of water bottles, and by using them people can always have an important life necessity; hopefully in the future when people purchase any brand of water they can feel that they are doing good for countries by knowing that some of the cost went towards helping others receive not only water but essentially a better ... The Ban On Water Bottles The Ban On Water Bottles In the essay in the schools newspaper, "Vote Yes On The Water Bottle Ban" the writers, The Crimson Staff uses their platform to tell people why they should vote "yes" on the water bottle ban on college campuses. • 71. Water Bottles And Water Bottle Controversy "There are over a billion people on this planet who do not have access to clean drinking water." – Michael Moore (Brainy Quotes). This quote alone says a great deal about the tap water versus water bottle controversy. Bottled water, although convenient and may seem like the healthiest choice, is not the case. People look at water bottles and automatically assume it is perfectly clean because it looks crystal clear or it may even say it, but everyone should look deeper. People do not seem to see how truly blessed we are as a country to have such wonderment. There are people who have no clean drinking water at all. More than $100 billion dollars every year is spent on water bottles, according to National Geographic. If the world is spending this amount of money on something just because everyone assumes it is the cleanest kind of water, and it is convenient, think of how many other ways we could use that money. According to Water.org, there are 358 million people without any access to water in Africa. If we spent as much money as we do on water bottles to help send fresh, clean water over to those in need of it, think of all the good we could do. The school board should provide bottled water in every classroom for the following reasons. The first reason the school board should provide individual bottles of water in every classroom is because they're convenient. Water bottles fit in every schoolbag, and are very light to carry. You can take water bottles with you anywhere. "You can take a water bottle on a journey, and you have water at your fingertips," (flourishonline.com, Jim Jewell). It is good that water bottles are portable because lack of water causes "dehydration, which in turn causes nausea and fatigue," (Valerie G., paragraph 2). Bottle Rockets The effect of a Bottle Rockets dimensions on the rockets hang time Respectfully Submitted to the Science Department of Blanche Ely High School Bryan Berrios Andre Edwards Rashean Senior Abstract Bottle rockets, people see them as middle school science projects where kids have fun and build little rockets. Actually there is a lot behind bottle rockets, it's more than just throw some plastic bottle together and glue some wings to it and fly it. The researcher chose this topic because in his class they are doing the bottle rocket project and he wanted to find out which rocket was more efficient for hang time. So the experimenter built some rockets and launched them and gathered the results. In this paper there is some history of rocketry ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A good water rocket has a lot of qualities and one of them is hang time a good rocket has a good hang time. The problem is not a lot of people know how to make a rocket with good hang time and neither did the researcher. He wanted to find out what dimensions of a rocket would make it have a great hang time. Before you go into building a rocket for hang time the researcher advises to build a stable rocket first. "One important factor in designing a stable rocket is considering the stability of the bottles used. Different bottles have different natural stabilities. Bottles with a short center–section and a long neck have a naturally high center of gravity. High, that is, if it is used as a rocket; low if the bottle is sitting on a shelf. Newer bottles are designed this way, because they are less likely to tip over. When we flip the bottle upside–down, to be used as a rocket, this shape works to our benefit, because the center of gravity is already high in the rocket, resulting in smaller fins and less weight that has to be added to make a stable rocket." (Singleton IV, 2001) There are different types of bottle rockets, for different purposes. The type of rocket we want to build is called a backslider "Backsliders are the rockets that are modified so that at apogee, instead of flipping over and heading for the ground, they float back in a higher drag configuration than a nose–dive. • 87. Persuasive Essay On Refillable Water Bottles The reason for millions of people using plastic water bottles is that everyone needs to drink water. However, many people do not know that a plastic bottle can be more harmful than beneficial for the drinker's health. Refillable water bottles (which may be plastic but are made for refillable use) should be used instead of plastic bottles because they are cheaper, healthier, and better for the Earth. Refillable water bottles may seem expensive, but in the long run it will be much cheaper. "On average, Americans spend about $5 a week on bottled water, this means you can save $260 per year by switching to a reusable water bottle" (Speer par. 5). This statistic shows just how much the average American (the world wide statistic was not available) can save yearly, let alone in a lifetime. This statistic also does not include the average money a year a person spends on soda pop, tea, coffee, or other drinks that could be put into the refillable bottle if they are bought in bulk. Many people say they do not have money to buy a nice refillable water bottle, but most people do have the money it would take to buy an eight dollar Contigo refillable bottle from Walmart that would do the job. Up to one fifth of Americans have tap water that is not drinkable (Karp par. 1). However, there are refillable water bottles with filters. Refillable water bottles with filters may be more expensive, but it is easy to find a cheap one at Walmart. For example someone could buy a ten dollar Brita filter water bottle. Investing in a refillable bottle will already save someone money after one month of use. Refilling a plastic bottle can have unforeseen consequences. Using a refillable water bottle is better for the drinker's health than drinking out of plastic bottles only meant to be used once because they are not good quality."Plastic bottles contain a harmful substance called polyethylene terephthalate, or PET, which is dangerous to human health" ("Think" par. 2). If that is not a serious enough reason, there are even more chemicals that are found in plastic bottles. "BPA has been connected to cases of hormonal issues and even cancer" (Speer par. 4). No one should be consuming harmful chemicals. Use of plastic bottles, whether for ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

They say that tap water is the answer, but they couldn't be farther from the truth. Banning water bottles would do more damage than good in the long run. It would be inconsiderate of people with mental illnesses and disabilities, makes it much harder to be able to give large amounts of water to the people who don't have access to it, would make things so much more difficult after some sort of natural disaster, and would make it very unfair to the water manufacturers to ban water bottles but not ban other bottled drinks. • 107. Water Bottles And Its Effects On Human Health Water bottles have become a staple in American life. Often times we will buy a bottle with lunch because it is healthier than the advertised alternative, soda. In reality, while water bottles may be healthier than soda, they can cause the same, if not more, damage in the long term. The plastic used for water and soda bottles alike have drastic effects on both human health and the environment but water bottles are worse because they are a completely unnecessary product. In America a majority of citizens have access to clean tap water which they neglect to use for various reasons, despite it potentially being safer. Water bottles, despite what companies have convinced you to think, are actually terrible for the environment and can have adverse health effects. Let's begin by talking about the damage caused by water bottle production. First, there is a massive waste of water just to produce the bottle. According to environmental journalist Norm Schriever, it takes three times the volume of water to manufacture one bottle of water than it does to fill it. The sad part is that the water is used during the chemical production phase of plastic development, leaving the water mostly unusable due to remnant chemicals from the process. Besides wasting precious, limited water, bottled water production also wastes copious amounts of oil. 17 million barrels of oil are used to produce roughly 50 billion water bottles each year. • 119. Negative Effects Of Plastic Water Bottles For as long as I can remember, my family has always purchased plastic water bottles and until recently, I have taken a new stance on them. As a student at Texas Tech University, one of my spring classes this past semester opened my eyes to the negative aspects of plastic water bottles. Within the class, I watched the documentary "Tapped" by Jason Lindsey and Stephanie Soechtig, which focused specifically on the bottled water industry. Even though plastic water bottles are highly popular in first and developing countries, recent evidence shows drastic consequences in both environmental and health related topics. Today plastic water bottles are putting a strain on the environment and highlighting their wasteful properties. A study by Brita, a water filtration company, shows that "Americans discard 38 billion plastic water bottles a year, and it takes 1.5 billion barrels of oil to produce them" (York 2). The amount of oil that is being used to produce the plastic of bottled water can be used elsewhere like gasoline for cars and electricity for homes. Even though the plastic from bottled water is recyclable, The Container Recycling Institute (CR1) states that "eight out of 10 water bottles end up in landfills" and end up being washed into streams and oceans (Knopper 36). CR1 also states that "only 14 percent of plastic water bottles purchased annually in the U.S. are recycled" (Burbank 23). The bottle bill was up for a referendum, the question was based upon the expansion of the bottle bill. The expansion involved the addition of several different vocabulary terms that were not incorporated in the original bottle bill and adding several clauses to expand the effect of the bill. The opposition believed that expanding the bottle bill is not the solution to the lacking recycling resources available in the Commonwealth. The group for the expansion focused its campaign on the projected impact this would have on littering and the economic benefit. Three years after the bottle bill passed, Massachusetts had recycled thirty five billion containers ( ). MassPrig led a coalition to gain legislature support to ensure the passing of the bottle bill. The bottle bill was created into three sections, Chapter 94 Section 321, Chapter 94 Section 322, and Chapter 94 Section 323. Section 321 laid out the definitions for the legal terms used to create the concepts in the two sections that follow. Section 322 states the bottle deposit amount and what it covers. Section 323 and it's sub–sections outlined the provisions for the distributors to follow when selling plastic containers, the appropriate way to accept recyclable items from a consumer, and what the state would do with business that are below their quota ( ). In 2003, Mitt Romney led an effort to utilize forfeited nickel deposits as a supplement to the state's general fund instead of the environmental funded created under the original bottle bill. The proposed bottle bill expansion wanted to expand the definition of "beverage." The new definition would include non–carbonated and non–alcoholic beverages intended for human consumption.
