Coldplay is a British rock band formed in 1996 by lead vocalist Chris Martin and lead guitarist Jonny Buckland at University College London. The band was originally called Pectoralz and then Starfish before becoming Coldplay. They released several EPs in the late 1990s before their debut album Parachutes in 2000, which sold over 5 million copies. The band met at university in London and original members included Chris Martin, Jonny Buckland, and Guy Berryman, with Will Champion later joining to complete the lineup.
