Dear Sir/Madam,
I am writing in reference to a career change.
I feel I would be an excellent candidate in consideration for the role because I am highly
competent and skilled Drugs and alcohol licensing Police Officer with over twenty years of
experience working in complex, demanding and challenging roles.
I have an excellent body of skills and great work ethos.
I have worked within and managed small and large teams as well as being self-sufficient.
My current role over last 20 years has be varied with a strong base around general
policing, obtaining a wealth of knowledge and expertise in delivering a quality product and
service to the public, colleagues and external organisations.
My role over the years have enabled me to evolve and deliver numerous training programs
and sessions to all police officers and staff. I also provide training to many organisations
outside the policing family, i.e housing associations, schools, colleges, licensed premises
large retail outlets, security officers and South East Kent Ambulance Service.
I have obtained my year 1 diploma in training & teaching through Canterbury Christchurch
University, which has enabled me to obtain a notable qualification to assist in producing
training programmes.
The current projects & training programs I have managed within my area recently are:
Restorative Justice Programme, Proportionate Justice, Child Sexual, Exploitation,
Radicalisation within Communities, Drug Investigation and Drug Identification,
Crime Reduction and Crime Prevention.
All these projects are provided to varied audiences within & outside my organisation;
therefore, they need to be accurate and with the objective of achieving maximum learning
outcomes.
I am also one of the county drug expert officers and this involves attending crown court for
all drug based cases; in addition I also look to identify potential officers who display skills
to transition into the drug field.
Within my current role I work closely with large organisations within retail and licensing
trades where negotiation is paramount to achieve all party’s goals or requests.

I am used to communicating effectively and have built long term relationship with such
companies.
I work regularly with head offices, area managers, solicitors, and premises managers.
My ethos when dealing with all these companies or persons has always been an honest
and fair approach with a pragmatic method in reducing any conflicts or disagreement that
sometimes arise.
The rationale for my district to involve me within many different subjects as well as having
multiple roles is that I have always strived to make all working practices easier with a ‘lean
approach and I am known for thinking ‘outside the box’ when considering new approaches
or training options.
I have developed training programmes and managed specialist police operations that have
been utilised nationally & recognised as best practice; these are always being developed
and optimised to streamline for maximum effectiveness.
I have managed core budgets with weekly, monthly, quarterly, yearly returns to varying
councils and home office with great success. I am fully aware and able to manage funds to
obtaining maximum return.
I have good knowledge & understanding of IT systems, powerpoint, excel & NCALT intranet
based training system.
My training and years of service has instilled a set of core values identified through the
National Decision Model -
Accountability – You are answerable for your decisions, actions and omissions
Fairness – You treat people fairly
Honesty – You are truthful and trustworthy
Integrity – You always do the right thing
Leadership – You lead by good example
Objectivity – You make choices on evidence and your best professional judgement
Openness – You are open and transparent in your actions and decisions
Respect – You treat everyone with respect
Selflessness – You act in the public interest

These cores values are seen throughout many public caring or facing organisations and I
perceive that my expansive years of utilising and working towards such values would be
very well suited and aligned to any company.
I have always taken a great interest with respect to other industries and companies I have
worked with to obtain as much knowledge. This means I can adapt quickly to new roles
and challenges that they may bring & also allow a high level of transparency when dealing
with these organisations.
During my career I have worked hard to gather extensive knowledge & experience from all
agencies and departments, which has led to being a flexible worker who can take initiative
with projects to try and incorporate all.
I am able to work within pressurised environments where quality and compliance is very
important. In my work I have always shown I have a very strong work code & an excellent
track record in terms of reliability and punctuality.
Pressure is an everyday ‘reality’ in my role so working towards targets & organisational
goals is something I thrive on. I have conviction that I possess the necessary transferable
skills to make a successful move into this role and deliver a positive impact.
Thank you for your consideration and I trust my application meets with your requirements.
Should you have any other questions or require any further information then please don’t
hesitate to contact me.
I do appreciate that although I am still a serving police officer, the skills I have acquired
have not just been generalised to policing. I have obtained a varied skill base, which I feel
would greatly support your company as part of a collective
Yours sincerely,
Lee Oakley.
