SAP Business Suite
When a company grows, processes become more complex and the software requirements change. SAP
Business Suite offers additional applications/components that complement, enhance and support the
processes executed in SAP ERP. You’ll learn from below mentioned details that components other than
ERP also give the same functionalities almost, but as aforementioned they complement and compensate
the increased, changing requirements as businesses expand. Following are components/applications of
SAP Business Suite:
 SAP ERP
 SAP SRM
 SAP CRM
 SAP SCM
 SAP PLM

SAP ERP incorporates following broader solutions:
 SAP ERP Financials: funds and profitability management.
 SAP ERP HCM: managing human resources effectively involving all HR functions.
 SAP ERP Operations: automating and streamlining procurement and logistics execution, product
development and manufacturing, and sales and service.
 SAP ERP Corporate Services: solutions for end-to-end life cycles for travel management,
environment, health and safety, real estate management and incentive programs.
Note: each of the above solutions contains different modules providing specific functionality within
respective solution. Each solution and/or module involves business processes which are also called
business scenarios. Transaction(s) represent(s) step(s) in a specific business process.
Other components/applications of the business suite focus on as follows:
 SAP SRM–purchase order, requisitioning, etc.
 SAP CRM – internet sales, sales order management, etc.
 SAP SCM – inventory and warehouse management, manufacturing and transportation.
 SAP PLM – lifecycle data, project quality, asset management, etc.
SAP Enhancement Packages (EhP) are optional packages that enable companies to take advantage of
ongoing innovations while keeping their core software stable, rather than engaging in massive upgrade
projects. Each SAP EhP provides a collection of new or improved business functions.
SAP NetWeaver
SAP NetWeaver is the technical platform that powers SAP Business Suite. Following business content is
provided with SAP NetWeaver:
 Preconfigured portal content and predefined roles for better integration of people
 Reports and analyses for fast integration of information
 Interfaces for linking the business processes in various back-end systems

A Glimpse at SAP ERP (or SAP ECC) Evolution
Today SAP ECC Core (6.0) is the term for SAP ERP 6.0. SAP R/3 was developed using ABAP - SAP’s
own programming language. BPP = Business Process Platform.
Logistics Information System (LIS)
Logistics Information System is part of SAP ERP which contains the following Information Systems:
 Sales Information System (SIS)
 Purchasing Information System (PURCHIS)
 Inventory Controlling (INVCO)
 Warehouse Management Information System (WMIS)
 Shop Floor Information System (SFIS)
 Quality Management Information System (QMIS)
 Plant Maintenance Information System (PMIS)
 Retail Information System (RIS)

Logistics Data Warehouse comprises the following levels:
Online Transaction Processing (OLTP)
The operative applications such as Sales and Distribution, Purchasing, Production, Plant Maintenance,
and so on continuously supply the information systems of the LIS with data. This level information is also
known as OLTP. The data is derived from documents from the SAP ERP system or external or non-SAP
systems.
Logistics Data Warehouse:
The Logistics Data Warehouse is present above the OLTP level. For each business transaction within the
operative application, separate databases of the Logistics Data Warehouse, which is parallel to the OLTP
level, store important information in aggregated form. In the process, the system quantitatively reduces
the data volume because of the period-wise updating. The system then qualitatively reduces the
information to the statistically relevant portions.
The databases of the Logistics Data Warehouse are known as information structures. Information
structures constitute the data basis of the LIS.
Online Analytical Processing (OLAP):
Data is evaluated at OLAP level. A variety of reporting and analysis tools is available at this level.

Other SAP Key Concepts at Peak Today
SAP HANA
SAP HANA is an in-memory data platform that is deployable as an on-premise appliance, or in the cloud.
It is a revolutionary platform that’s best suited for performing real-time analytics, and developing and
deploying real-time applications. At the core of this real-time data platform is the SAP HANA database
which is fundamentally different than any other database engine in the market today. With SAP HANA
your HD will function like a RAM – great! SAP HANA has eliminated SAP’s dependence on Oracle for
database.
SAP ARIBA
ARIBA is now an SAP company. Together, SAP+ARIBA deliver new connected solutions that enable
unparalleled collaboration and business performance within and between enterprises. ARIBA’s cloud
applications and business network combined with SAP’s global scale and reach empower companies of
all sizes to take full advantage of the cloud and achieve new levels of efficiency, performance, and profits.
Locate new suppliers, streamline transaction processes, and realize savings with cloud-based
procurement software from ARIBA. SAP recently acquired this industry-leader in online sourcing, buying,
and selling – and now, customers can access proven solutions and the ARIBA Network to support the
entire source-to-pay process. Benefits:
 Identify strategic sourcing opportunities and automate their execution
 Integrate contract creation and management in a central repository
 Speed procure-to-pay processes with online shopping and invoicing
 Automate supplier performance and information management

SAP Ecosystem
The SAP Ecosystem is a network of Partners, SAP Employees and Customers who support each other
and work closely together. One common attribute is the SAP User ID. In order to offer specific courses for
members of the SAP Ecosystem, SAP makes use of this attribute and maps it to members’ openSAP
profile.
SAP Solution Manager
SAP Solution Manager is an integrated, customer platform that gives customers the procedures, tools
and content needed to successfully and efficiently implement, operate and optimize their SAP and non-
SAP solutions regardless of the complexity of the system landscape. SAP SolMan uses Accelerated SAP
(ASAP) methodology for implementation.
ASAP Methodology at a Glance
System Landscape (DEV  QAS  PRD)
Landscape is like a server system or like a layout of the servers or some may even call it the architecture
of the servers. In other words, landscape is the arrangement for the servers. SAP is divided into three
different landscapes DEV, QAS and PRD.
 Development System is where the consultants do the customization as per the company's
requirement. It would have multiple clients e.g. 190- Sandbox, 100- Golden, 180 - Unit Test.
 Quality Assurance System is where the core team members and other members test the
customization. May again have multiple clients e.g. 300- Integration Test, 700 to 710 Training.
Mansoor Ali Seelro
SAP Certified Associate Consultant
ERP & SCM MM
 Production System is where the live data of the company is recorded. May have something like
a 200 Production.
When things get done in DEV, now such configuration needs to be transported to QAS and a Transport
Request is created to do this. Moreover, Batch Input Sessions help transfer/upload data from legacy
(existing) system to SAP system. The Legacy System Migration Workbench (LSMW) is a tool that
supports data migration from legacy systems (non-SAP systems) to SAP systems. It is a cross-platform
component of the SAP system.
Note: IDES is a system that is purely for education/training purpose and is NOT INCLUDED in the
landscape.
SAP Materials Management (MM) Module (this is the module I specialized in)
The core functionalities comprising this module are:
 Purchasing: PRs, RFQs, POs, info records, price comparisons, vendor selection, etc.
 Inventory Management (IM): GRs, GIs, stock transfers, transfer postings, etc.
 Logistics Invoice Verification (LIV): IRs, payment run, subsequent debit/credit, etc.

Five Reasons why SAP is the Best ERP System
In today's challenging business environment, best-run companies have clarity across all aspects of their
business, which allows them to act quickly with increased insight, efficiency, and flexibility. This is
particularly true if your business includes SAP.
SAP is the world's largest business software company and the third-largest independent software
provider in terms of revenues. Even though the competition is fierce with a lot of new entrants in the
marketplace from large and small vendors over this time, SAP is still a leader in enterprise software. Here
are some reasons which explain why SAP continues to be the market leader in the enterprise space:
1. The first reason is simply the fact that SAP solutions are scalable and can be customized according to
the evolving business requirements of an enterprise. It can be easily integrated with future applications
giving users a significant competitive advantage in the market. SAP solutions have become integral to the
foundation of international businesses, as almost half of the world's Fortune1000 companies have
implemented ERP solutions from SAP.
1
Note that SAP is the biggest customer of Oracle in terms of Oracle database use. HANA by SAP will reduce or
eliminate completely such dependence of SAP on Oracle.
Mansoor Ali Seelro
SAP Certified Associate Consultant
ERP & SCM MM
2. SAP has been mainly focusing on enterprise applications for the last 30 years, the area where they
hold the market leader spot today across the globe. While the other large ERP software vendors, tend to
have multiple business focuses - like, databases as an example.
3. SAP continues to focus its ERP applications on maximizing resources, reducing costs and optimizing
performance that is customized for businesses and industries. SAP provides a comprehensive range of
business software and enterprise applications - designed for global operations and supported with
globalization services - to empower every aspect of your business.
4. SAP architecture is extremely strong with a process-centric focus and a foundation that operates in real
time communication with enterprise-wide business processes that is highly flexible.
5. Lastly, with the experience of the last 30 years SAP has afforded their enterprise applications to be
extremely industry- and business-specific. They have already built and refined these industry-specific
solutions with real customers and real implementations carrying the knowledge base and enhancing their
technology and application offerings each year for the last three decades.
SAP not only helps manage day to day operations efficiently; it also sharpens business insight by
providing real time access to timely information. As there are more solutions available on the marketplace
to choose from, and even given the increasing competitive landscape, SAP has kept their market
dominance.
Important Notes
 SAP recommends 90% standard system whereas 10% customizing is allowed as per customer
requirements and this is where ABAPers take over.
 Ticket in SAP studies refer to message. Likewise PO tickets mean messages related to PO. E.g.
create and forward ticket and you’ll receive reply.
 “Open” means something in process and not complete. E.g. open PO, open GR, open IR, etc.
 Change Request is created when customer demands something extra i.e. not included in the
project scope or BBD and is charged separately.
 SCM users = functional users/consultants (I call them white-collar consultants)
 NetWeaver users = technical or basis users/consultants (I call them blue-collar consultants)

  • 5. Mansoor Ali Seelro SAP Certified Associate Consultant ERP & SCM MM SAP Business Suite When a company grows, processes become more complex and the software requirements change. SAP Business Suite offers additional applications/components that complement, enhance and support the processes executed in SAP ERP. You’ll learn from below mentioned details that components other than ERP also give the same functionalities almost, but as aforementioned they complement and compensate the increased, changing requirements as businesses expand. Following are components/applications of SAP Business Suite:  SAP ERP  SAP SRM  SAP CRM  SAP SCM  SAP PLM
  • 6. Mansoor Ali Seelro SAP Certified Associate Consultant ERP & SCM MM SAP ERP incorporates following broader solutions:  SAP ERP Financials: funds and profitability management.  SAP ERP HCM: managing human resources effectively involving all HR functions.  SAP ERP Operations: automating and streamlining procurement and logistics execution, product development and manufacturing, and sales and service.  SAP ERP Corporate Services: solutions for end-to-end life cycles for travel management, environment, health and safety, real estate management and incentive programs. Note: each of the above solutions contains different modules providing specific functionality within respective solution. Each solution and/or module involves business processes which are also called business scenarios. Transaction(s) represent(s) step(s) in a specific business process. Other components/applications of the business suite focus on as follows:  SAP SRM–purchase order, requisitioning, etc.  SAP CRM – internet sales, sales order management, etc.  SAP SCM – inventory and warehouse management, manufacturing and transportation.  SAP PLM – lifecycle data, project quality, asset management, etc. SAP Enhancement Packages (EhP) are optional packages that enable companies to take advantage of ongoing innovations while keeping their core software stable, rather than engaging in massive upgrade projects. Each SAP EhP provides a collection of new or improved business functions. SAP NetWeaver SAP NetWeaver is the technical platform that powers SAP Business Suite. Following business content is provided with SAP NetWeaver:  Preconfigured portal content and predefined roles for better integration of people  Reports and analyses for fast integration of information  Interfaces for linking the business processes in various back-end systems
  • 7. Mansoor Ali Seelro SAP Certified Associate Consultant ERP & SCM MM A Glimpse at SAP ERP (or SAP ECC) Evolution Today SAP ECC Core (6.0) is the term for SAP ERP 6.0. SAP R/3 was developed using ABAP - SAP’s own programming language. BPP = Business Process Platform. Logistics Information System (LIS) Logistics Information System is part of SAP ERP which contains the following Information Systems:  Sales Information System (SIS)  Purchasing Information System (PURCHIS)  Inventory Controlling (INVCO)  Warehouse Management Information System (WMIS)  Shop Floor Information System (SFIS)  Quality Management Information System (QMIS)  Plant Maintenance Information System (PMIS)  Retail Information System (RIS) SAP R/3 (Up to 4.6C) mySAP ERP (2004) SAP ERP 6.0 (First BPP offering by SAP)
  • 8. Mansoor Ali Seelro SAP Certified Associate Consultant ERP & SCM MM Logistics Data Warehouse comprises the following levels: Online Transaction Processing (OLTP) The operative applications such as Sales and Distribution, Purchasing, Production, Plant Maintenance, and so on continuously supply the information systems of the LIS with data. This level information is also known as OLTP. The data is derived from documents from the SAP ERP system or external or non-SAP systems. Logistics Data Warehouse: The Logistics Data Warehouse is present above the OLTP level. For each business transaction within the operative application, separate databases of the Logistics Data Warehouse, which is parallel to the OLTP level, store important information in aggregated form. In the process, the system quantitatively reduces the data volume because of the period-wise updating. The system then qualitatively reduces the information to the statistically relevant portions. The databases of the Logistics Data Warehouse are known as information structures. Information structures constitute the data basis of the LIS. Online Analytical Processing (OLAP): Data is evaluated at OLAP level. A variety of reporting and analysis tools is available at this level.
  • 9. Mansoor Ali Seelro SAP Certified Associate Consultant ERP & SCM MM Other SAP Key Concepts at Peak Today SAP HANA SAP HANA is an in-memory data platform that is deployable as an on-premise appliance, or in the cloud. It is a revolutionary platform that’s best suited for performing real-time analytics, and developing and deploying real-time applications. At the core of this real-time data platform is the SAP HANA database which is fundamentally different than any other database engine in the market today. With SAP HANA your HD will function like a RAM – great! SAP HANA has eliminated SAP’s dependence on Oracle for database. SAP ARIBA ARIBA is now an SAP company. Together, SAP+ARIBA deliver new connected solutions that enable unparalleled collaboration and business performance within and between enterprises. ARIBA’s cloud applications and business network combined with SAP’s global scale and reach empower companies of all sizes to take full advantage of the cloud and achieve new levels of efficiency, performance, and profits. Locate new suppliers, streamline transaction processes, and realize savings with cloud-based procurement software from ARIBA. SAP recently acquired this industry-leader in online sourcing, buying, and selling – and now, customers can access proven solutions and the ARIBA Network to support the entire source-to-pay process. Benefits:  Identify strategic sourcing opportunities and automate their execution  Integrate contract creation and management in a central repository  Speed procure-to-pay processes with online shopping and invoicing  Automate supplier performance and information management
  • 10. Mansoor Ali Seelro SAP Certified Associate Consultant ERP & SCM MM Appendix SAP Ecosystem The SAP Ecosystem is a network of Partners, SAP Employees and Customers who support each other and work closely together. One common attribute is the SAP User ID. In order to offer specific courses for members of the SAP Ecosystem, SAP makes use of this attribute and maps it to members’ openSAP profile. SAP Solution Manager SAP Solution Manager is an integrated, customer platform that gives customers the procedures, tools and content needed to successfully and efficiently implement, operate and optimize their SAP and non- SAP solutions regardless of the complexity of the system landscape. SAP SolMan uses Accelerated SAP (ASAP) methodology for implementation. ASAP Methodology at a Glance System Landscape (DEV  QAS  PRD) Landscape is like a server system or like a layout of the servers or some may even call it the architecture of the servers. In other words, landscape is the arrangement for the servers. SAP is divided into three different landscapes DEV, QAS and PRD.  Development System is where the consultants do the customization as per the company's requirement. It would have multiple clients e.g. 190- Sandbox, 100- Golden, 180 - Unit Test.  Quality Assurance System is where the core team members and other members test the customization. May again have multiple clients e.g. 300- Integration Test, 700 to 710 Training.
  • 11. Mansoor Ali Seelro SAP Certified Associate Consultant ERP & SCM MM  Production System is where the live data of the company is recorded. May have something like a 200 Production. When things get done in DEV, now such configuration needs to be transported to QAS and a Transport Request is created to do this. Moreover, Batch Input Sessions help transfer/upload data from legacy (existing) system to SAP system. The Legacy System Migration Workbench (LSMW) is a tool that supports data migration from legacy systems (non-SAP systems) to SAP systems. It is a cross-platform component of the SAP system. Note: IDES is a system that is purely for education/training purpose and is NOT INCLUDED in the landscape. SAP Materials Management (MM) Module (this is the module I specialized in) The core functionalities comprising this module are:  Purchasing: PRs, RFQs, POs, info records, price comparisons, vendor selection, etc.  Inventory Management (IM): GRs, GIs, stock transfers, transfer postings, etc.  Logistics Invoice Verification (LIV): IRs, payment run, subsequent debit/credit, etc. Other ERP Vendors in the Market  J.D. Edwards  Oracle 1  PeopleSoft  Baan Five Reasons why SAP is the Best ERP System In today's challenging business environment, best-run companies have clarity across all aspects of their business, which allows them to act quickly with increased insight, efficiency, and flexibility. This is particularly true if your business includes SAP. SAP is the world's largest business software company and the third-largest independent software provider in terms of revenues. Even though the competition is fierce with a lot of new entrants in the marketplace from large and small vendors over this time, SAP is still a leader in enterprise software. Here are some reasons which explain why SAP continues to be the market leader in the enterprise space: 1. The first reason is simply the fact that SAP solutions are scalable and can be customized according to the evolving business requirements of an enterprise. It can be easily integrated with future applications giving users a significant competitive advantage in the market. SAP solutions have become integral to the foundation of international businesses, as almost half of the world's Fortune1000 companies have implemented ERP solutions from SAP. 1 Note that SAP is the biggest customer of Oracle in terms of Oracle database use. HANA by SAP will reduce or eliminate completely such dependence of SAP on Oracle.
  • 12. Mansoor Ali Seelro SAP Certified Associate Consultant ERP & SCM MM 2. SAP has been mainly focusing on enterprise applications for the last 30 years, the area where they hold the market leader spot today across the globe. While the other large ERP software vendors, tend to have multiple business focuses - like, databases as an example. 3. SAP continues to focus its ERP applications on maximizing resources, reducing costs and optimizing performance that is customized for businesses and industries. SAP provides a comprehensive range of business software and enterprise applications - designed for global operations and supported with globalization services - to empower every aspect of your business. 4. SAP architecture is extremely strong with a process-centric focus and a foundation that operates in real time communication with enterprise-wide business processes that is highly flexible. 5. Lastly, with the experience of the last 30 years SAP has afforded their enterprise applications to be extremely industry- and business-specific. They have already built and refined these industry-specific solutions with real customers and real implementations carrying the knowledge base and enhancing their technology and application offerings each year for the last three decades. SAP not only helps manage day to day operations efficiently; it also sharpens business insight by providing real time access to timely information. As there are more solutions available on the marketplace to choose from, and even given the increasing competitive landscape, SAP has kept their market dominance. Important Notes  SAP recommends 90% standard system whereas 10% customizing is allowed as per customer requirements and this is where ABAPers take over.  Ticket in SAP studies refer to message. Likewise PO tickets mean messages related to PO. E.g. create and forward ticket and you’ll receive reply.  “Open” means something in process and not complete. E.g. open PO, open GR, open IR, etc.  Change Request is created when customer demands something extra i.e. not included in the project scope or BBD and is charged separately.  SCM users = functional users/consultants (I call them white-collar consultants)  NetWeaver users = technical or basis users/consultants (I call them blue-collar consultants) Some Commonly Used SAP Acronyms ABAP = Advanced Business Application Programming ALV = Advanced List Viewer BAPI = Business Application Programming Interface BBD = Business Blueprint Document BEx = Business Explorer BI = Business Intelligence
