A 16-year-old Philippine student won an international public speaking competition in London with his speech on how scientific research could cure many of the world's problems. Gian Carlo Dapul from the Philippine Science High School beat out nearly 60 participants from 35 countries. His five-minute speech titled "Fish Mucus and Foot Fungus" discussed how scientific findings could serve as cures. He also drew laughs from judges with humorous lines about expensive coffee from civet droppings.
