A great deal of the professional literature is devoted to developing content and faculty buy-in for institutional repositories. However, little is known about the end users of these repositories. This is unfortunate since great content is of little value if no one uses it and knowing more about users and their needs leads to more relevant content. So, we need to ask ourselves: "Who exactly is using this stuff, anyway?" Since 2010, Utah State University has been surveying its IR users to answer this question. DigitalCommons@USU houses more than 20,000 documents with full-text downloads of over 500,000. With this much content and activity, our 3-year old repository has matured to a point that we are beginning to shift our focus from just seeking content to understanding our users, their needs, and how we can better meet those needs. In this presentation, we will share the results of our survey, discuss the implications of the results, and propose future directions of investigation. Dr. William Allan Kritsonis Inducted into the William H. Parker Leadership Academy Hall of Honor (HBCU) Remarks by Angela Stevens McNeil July 26th 2008 Good Morning. My name is Angela Stevens McNeil and I have the privilege of introducing the next Hall of Honor Inductee, Dr. William Allan Kritsonis. Dr. Kritsonis was chosen because of his dedication to the educational advancement of Prairie View A&M University students. He earned a Bachelor’s degree in 1969 from Central Washington University in Ellensburg, Washington. In 1971, he earned his Master’s in Education from Seattle Pacific University. In 1976, he earned his PhD from the University of Iowa. Dr. Kritsonis has served and blessed the field of education as a teacher, principal, superintendent of schools, director of student teaching and field experiences, invited guest professor, author, consultant, editor-in-chief, and publisher. He has also earned tenure as a professor at the highest academic rank at two major universities. In 2005, Dr. Kritsonis was an Invited Visiting Lecturer at the Oxford Round Table at Oriel College in the University of Oxford, Oxford, England. His lecture was entitled the Ways of Knowing through the Realms of Meaning. In 2004, Dr. William Allan Kritsonis was recognized as the Central Washington University Alumni Association Distinguished Alumnus for the College of Education and Professional Studies. Dr. William Kritsonis is a well respected author of more than 500 articles in professional journals and several books. In 1983, Dr. Kritsonis founded the NATIONAL FORUM JOURNALS. These publications represent a group of highly respected scholarly academic periodicals. In 2004, he established the DOCTORAL FORUM – National Journal for Publishing and Mentoring Doctoral Student Research. The DOCTORAL FORUM is the only refereed journal in America committed to publishing doctoral students while they are enrolled in course work in their doctoral programs. Over 300 articles have been published by doctorate and master’s degree students and most are indexed in ERIC. Currently, Dr. Kritsonis is a Professor in the PhD Program in Educational Leadership here at Prairie View A&M University. Dr. William Kritsonis has dedicated himself to the advancement of educational leadership and to the education of students at all levels. It is my honor to bring him to the stage at this time as a William H. Parker Leadership Academy Hall of Honor Inductee.

LIBRARIES TO FILTER OR CENSOR PROVIDED MATERIAL? COMPUTER AND INTERNET Computer and internet technology have become a major source of information in todays world. The internet can be accessed using various devices such a smart phones, tablets and computers. Ordinarily the information is open to everybody to access and see With the explosion of internet usage in the United States, the problem of regulating the new technology has been a troubling one. In private domains, the internet is a free range information tool that can be used to access a wealth of information, as well as a wealth of objectionable content, ranging from pornography to violence or hate. The first amendment protects users of the internet to access what they desire with the internet 2 COMPUTER AND INTERNET CONT’D… The internet has both socially and morally good things as well as immoral content. The state has enacted laws that protect the children especially from such bad content The first amendment protects users of the internet to access what they desire with the internet, stating that, “Congress shall make no law[...] abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press”(The First Amendment). The issue takes a different turn, however, when being applied to government funded internet access centers. In particular, libraries and schools are being discussed as to what kind of information they are and are not allowing to be accessed with their connections. 3 KEY WORDS Filtering software Censoring CIPA-Child Internet Protection Act Filtering software are programs that are installed in the computer that will limit the access of certain se cites in the internet. Censoring refers to the hiding of certain parts of material that is being viewed or shown, 4 CHILD PROTECTION In the spirit of protecting the children the state passed law to restrict accessed content The state perceive that children can stray into wrong sites and view bad things To avert such an innocent or deliberate move, filtering or censoring of internet content is in order. Under the Child Internet Protection Act (CIPA), Congress stated that “if public libraries do not filter access to the Internet, they will lose federal funding for computers and Internet connections” 5 CHILD PROTECTION CONT’D… Some cites praises the use of dangerous substances such as drugs Other cites have extremely explicit content. The internet is laden with all kinds of material and information. some cites possess very destructive content to the young and easily influenced minds. Content such as pornographic material and drug abuse can easily derail a young mind. 6 FACTS AND EVIDENCE A third of drug use viewers in USA are under 16 years The vice is rising with easy of internet access The average age of internet exposure to pornography is 11 years. Jan 14 NISO Webinar Net Neutrality: Will Library Resources be stuck in the Slow Lane? About the Webinar Net Neutrality is an issue that has been increasingly in the news, but it is something that has affected libraries for a lot longer. Many public libraries are in underserved communities where patrons may not have personal access to the internet, so the use of the public libraries' resources is critical for them. Without net neutrality, those public libraries may not be able to cost-effectively provide such Internet service. For the scholarly and academic communities, scholarly resources could be resigned to the slow lane of the net, if content providers and libraries don't have the resources to pay for the "fast lane." As resources increasingly go multimedia, requiring greater bandwidth, will libraries and content platform providers be saddled with taking on added costs to ensure reliable access? Net neutrality begins with the basic idea that the Internet is a fair and democratic platform for all. Organizations such as the American Library Association, the Association of Research Libraries, EDUCAUSE, and Internet2, among others, have spoken out about the critical need for retaining net neutrality in the library, higher education, and research communities. In this webinar, presenters will help define Net Neutrality, what could happen without it, and how it can impact public and academic libraries, and the wider information community. Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup. The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.

A Strategic Approach: GenAI in Education

Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction. This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.
