Profitability and liquidity of Islamic banks in the United KingdomMohammad Dabiri
The objectives of this research are to investigate the effect of liquidity on profitability and also the directions of causality between liquidity and profitability of Islamic banks in the United Kingdom. Five Islamic banks out of the existing twenty Islamic banks were selected for the study. They are Al Rayan Bank, Bank of London and Middle East, European Islamic Investment Bank, Gatehouse Bank and Qatar Islamic Bank. Econometrics analysis which include; regression and Granger causality test were carried out on UK Islamic banks’ liquidity and profitability. The results of the regression analysis showed that there exists co-integration among the variables, that is, long run relationship exists and also liquidity negatively and significantly affects profitability of the Islamic banks in the United Kingdom both in the short and long runs. However, the result of the pairwise granger causality test showed that there is no unidirectional or bidirectional causal effect between liquidity and profitability of Islamic banks in United Kingdom. Based on the results and conclusions, the study suggests that the apex bank (Bank of England) should guarantee close regulation and monitoring of Islamic banks’ strength and level of liquidity in an attempt to alleviate and strengthen the financial sector of the economy.
This document is a summer internship project report submitted by Jogendra Singh Yadav to MIT School of Telecom Management in Pune, India in partial fulfillment of a post graduate diploma in management. The report examines the competitive analysis of trading at Bonanza Portfolio Ltd. through primary and secondary research. It provides an overview of the stock brokerage industry in India and analyzes major players in the region like Sharekhan, Angle Broking, Indiabulls Securities, HDFC Securities, and Bonanza Portfolio Ltd. The research methodology used surveys and questionnaires to collect data from 100 investors in Pune on their preferences and perceptions.
The document discusses using the information ratio to measure the performance of mutual funds relative to a benchmark. It defines the information ratio as the excess return of a portfolio over the benchmark return, divided by the tracking error. A higher information ratio means a fund's performance is more consistent relative to the benchmark. The document also notes limitations of the information ratio include needing substantial data and being sensitive to the chosen benchmark.
11.[28 38]distribution of risk and return a statistical test of normality on ...Alexander Decker
This document summarizes a research study that examined the normal distribution of risk and return on the Dhaka Stock Exchange in Bangladesh. The study used statistical tests to analyze daily, weekly, and monthly returns calculated from three DSE indices from 2002 to 2010. The results found evidence of skewness and kurtosis in the returns, indicating they were not normally distributed and contradicting the assumption of random walk behavior required for an efficient market. Additionally, inconsistencies were found between daily and weekly risk and return, suggesting higher returns may be possible without higher risk. The study aims to contribute to evaluating market efficiency and the relationship between risk and return in the Bangladesh capital market.
This document proposes a new method for analyzing bank performance levels in Indonesia using fuzzy models. It compares the accuracy of Mamdani, zero-order Takagi-Sugeno-Kang (TSK), and zero-order TSK with singular value decomposition (SVD) fuzzy models. The zero-order TSK model with SVD achieved the highest accuracy of 99.23% on training data and 100% on testing data, outperforming the other methods. This new method uses fuzzy logic and SVD to measure bank performance based on risk profile, governance, earnings, and capital variables, providing a better approach for analyzing bank performance in Indonesia.

Effect of Portfolio Diversification on Commercial Banks Financial Performance...inventionjournals
The study examined the effect of portfolio diversification on Commercial Banks financial performance. Mixed method of research design was used and data was collected using questionnaires and interview schedules. Target population was 43 licensed Commercial Banks in Kenya from which one hundred and thirty three (133) managers were randomly selected to form sample size. Validity of the research instruments was ensured through content, face and construct validity testing. Data was analyzed using descriptive statistics and inferential statistics which included correlation analysis and bivariate regression analysis. The study established a positive statistically significant relationship between portfolio diversification and financial performance. The portfolio diversification explained 68% of the changes in the financial performance of commercial banks in Kenya and that most banks diversify their investments which has enabled them to increase profits and performance in the past years. The study recommended that financial institutions should invest in a combination of assets which are negatively correlated because this maximizes revenue (returns) and minimizes losses (risks). Further study should be undertaken to establish the best combination of assets that can yield an efficient portfolio.

The relationship between the eps the market stock returnAlexander Decker
This document discusses research on the relationship between earnings per share (EPS) and stock market returns. It notes that previous studies have found EPS explains less than 11% of changes in returns. The study aims to test this relationship for industrial companies listed on the Amman Stock Exchange. It discusses two models for representing unexpected earnings - using change in EPS or level of EPS. The study hypothesizes that both measures will significantly affect returns but that level of EPS may better explain returns. It also hypothesizes that using multiple earnings variables could improve explanation of returns. The literature review discusses a previous Jordanian study on the relationship between stock prices, current EPS, and future profits.
The stock exchange is an important apparatus for economic growth as it is an opportunity for investors to acquire equity and, at the same time, provide resources for organizations expansions. On the other hand, a major concern regarding entering this market is related with the dynamic in which deals are made since the pricing of shares happens in a smart and oscillatory way. Due to this context, several researchers are studying techniques in order to predict the stock exchange, maximize profits and reduce risks. Thus, this study proposes a linear regression model for stock exchange prediction which, combined with financial indicators, provides support decision-making by investors.
Determinants of Share Prices of listed Commercial Banks in Pakistaniosrjce

Stock Selection Skills of Indian Mutual Fund Managers during 2000-2012IOSR Journals
Mutual funds work on the basis of two maxims - maximization of returns and diversification of risk, the attainment of which requires healthy operational practices and efficient investment management. Now, systematic investment management involves a wide variety of activities among which selectivity plays the pivotal role in the return generation process. This study is an attempt to evaluate the investment management of Indian mutual funds in terms of selectivity skills of fund managers during May 31, 2000 to March 31, 2012. The results pertaining to the selectivity skills of fund managers, as found in the study, has revealed that although majority of the schemes have shown positive alpha they are not statistically significant. Only some of the fund managers (around twenty five percent) possess superior selectivity skills based on both unconditional and conditional Jensen model. Conditioning on public information however improves the coefficient of determination. JEL classification: G11; G23
Hypothesis testing STATISTICS NOTES ON HONOURS , MAJOR , ACTUARIAL SCIENCE by...SOURAV DAS
The document discusses conducting a hypothesis test to determine if the average household income in a geographical region has changed over 10 years. The null hypothesis is that the average income has not changed from Rs. 10,000. A random sample of 200 households found the average to be Rs. 11,000 with a population standard deviation of Rs. 1,200. A z-test will be used at a 5% significance level to test if the vice president's doubt about the original data is correct. If the test statistic falls in the rejection region, then the null hypothesis will be rejected, supporting the view that average household income has increased.
This document discusses data mining methods and implementation of predictive data mining architecture for stock market prediction. It describes predicting unknown data values using classification, regression, and time series analysis. Two types of predictions discussed are stock market and environmental predictions. Stock market prediction aims to determine future company stock prices, while various parameters like return on investment are analyzed. The document also covers data mining techniques like descriptive and predictive mining, algorithms, and performance evaluation metrics like correct profitable trade signals and annual return on investment.
This document analyzes the performance of 29 open-ended, growth-oriented equity mutual fund schemes in India from April 2005 to March 2011 using various measures. It finds that 14 of the 29 schemes outperformed the benchmark index over this period based on returns. It then evaluates the schemes' performance using the Sharpe ratio, Treynor ratio, and Jensen's alpha measure. The Sharpe ratios were positive for all schemes, indicating returns exceeded the risk-free rate. The Jensen's alpha was positive for 19 of 29 schemes, showing superior performance. Overall, the study aims to help investors evaluate mutual fund scheme performance and identify better investment opportunities.
This document summarizes a research project analyzing stock market efficiency in India using the National Stock Exchange (NSE) as a case study. The objectives are to validate the weak form of market efficiency and analyze random walk theory. Data on 25 stocks from the S&P CNX Nifty index from 2006-2013 is analyzed using run tests and Phillips-Perron tests. The findings show the market is efficient in a weak form, indicating technical analysis of past data cannot predict prices but insider information is not fully reflected in prices. In conclusion, the research confirms weak form efficiency but also that investors with insider access may still earn abnormal profits.

Markov chain model application on share price movement in stock marketAlexander Decker
This document describes using a Markov chain model to analyze share price movement in the stock market. Specifically, it analyzes the three states of share price change (increase, decrease, unchanged) for two major Nigerian banks from 2005-2010. The transition matrix is derived from the data and the R statistical software is used to calculate equilibrium probabilities after 20 years. It finds that the long-run probability of a share price depreciating is 0.4229, remaining unchanged is 0.2072, and appreciating is 0.3699, on average for these banks.

The document defines various terms used in the puddling process such as pig iron, blast furnace, slag, and cast iron. It then describes the puddling process which involves charging pig iron into a heated furnace, melting and stirring the iron to separate impurities into slag, and forming balls of purified wrought iron called blooms. The puddling furnace was developed by Henry Cort in 1784 and was widely used in the UK in the 19th century to produce high-grade bar iron, before being replaced by open-hearth furnaces.
The document discusses the benefits of exercise for mental health. Regular physical activity can help reduce anxiety and depression and improve mood and cognitive function. Exercise causes chemical changes in the brain that may help protect against mental illness and improve symptoms.
At The Brooklyn Brothers, we regularly get together to discuss all things trend related. The sessions, hosted by the rising stars Vicky Simmons & Sarah Cotterill, and the brilliant Matt Springate enable us to learn everything current and future facing.

The number of unfair dismissal cases brought before Fair Work Australia has increased sharply over the past few years, rising 60% each year from 2009-2010 to 2011-2012. However, Fair Work Australia does not provide a clear definition of unfair dismissal. To address this, employers must ensure any dismissal is for a valid reason, notify the employee of the reason, give the employee a chance to respond, and consider any other relevant factors. Employees can make an unfair dismissal claim if they meet minimum service requirements and earn below $118,100. If successful, they may be reinstated or compensated up to 6 months' pay. Employers must be careful to avoid unlawful dismissals based on attributes like age or religion and follow proper

Here are the steps to determine if the classification accuracy of a discriminant function is sufficiently high relative to chance classification:
1. Calculate the chance accuracy rate based on the proportion of cases in each group. For example, if 60% of cases are in Group 1 and 40% in Group 2, the chance accuracy rate would be 60%.
2. Compare the actual classification accuracy of the discriminant function to the chance accuracy rate. If the actual accuracy is only slightly higher than chance, it may not be meaningful.
3. Calculate a chi-square statistic to test if the actual classification accuracy is significantly higher than the chance accuracy rate. The chi-square statistic compares the observed classification counts to expected counts based on chance.

1) The study examines governance strategies for distributors in China and finds that strategies should be tailored based on distributor role orientations. Economic strategies work best for profit-oriented distributors but may be offensive to relationship-oriented distributors.
2) Fit between governance strategy and distributor type positively impacts performance but misfit only negatively impacts performance, not satisfaction. This asymmetry warrants further research.
3) Contrary to assumptions, Chinese distributors are not uniformly profit-driven - their orientations vary, so customized strategies are needed. Strategies should also account for the stage of the relationship.
Presenting a Pattern for Increasing the Relative Efficiency of the Bank by Us...IOSR Journals
One of the factors in success of the developed countries is considering the efficiency of units. Efficient units not only do not waste the energy but also they obtain the resources properly. As, in every economy, bank are important institutions and essential posts and have a determinant role in developing the economy, their performance assessment has always been important. In todays world, considering the limitation of resources and excessive cost of providing them, proper decisions about the strategy of applying resources are significant. For the time being, domestic banks use transactional mass–based methods and methods based on performance operations, on the amount of equipment, and on obtaining resources in order to assess the performance & ranking of branches. So efficiency index reflects the process of activity between inputs & outputs of a branch which can be a more suitable criterion in assessing the branches performance. Data envelopment analysis is a theoretical framework in assessing, analyzing, & measuring efficiency which do the function of evaluating Decision making units via solving its own models. In this study, for assessing relative efficiency of Agriculture Bank branches in Lorestan Province, two basic models in Data Envelopment Analysis have been used: input–oriented CCR, BCC. The results of this research show that, among 23 branches under evaluation in CCR model, 6 branches are efficient and 17 are inefficient and among 23 branches in BCC model, 15 branches are efficient and 8 are inefficient. By applying AP model, branches have been ranked and a model has been presented for inefficient branches.

LAND USE LAND COVER AND NDVI OF MIRZAPUR DISTRICT, UPRAHUL
This Dissertation explores the particular circumstances of Mirzapur, a region located in the
core of India. Mirzapur, with its varied terrains and abundant biodiversity, offers an optimal
environment for investigating the changes in vegetation cover dynamics. Our study utilizes
advanced technologies such as GIS (Geographic Information Systems) and Remote sensing to
analyze the transformations that have taken place over the course of a decade.
The complex relationship between human activities and the environment has been the focus
of extensive research and worry. As the global community grapples with swift urbanization,
population expansion, and economic progress, the effects on natural ecosystems are becoming
more evident. A crucial element of this impact is the alteration of vegetation cover, which plays a
significant role in maintaining the ecological equilibrium of our planet.Land serves as the foundation for all human activities and provides the necessary materials for
these activities. As the most crucial natural resource, its utilization by humans results in different
'Land uses,' which are determined by both human activities and the physical characteristics of the
land.
The utilization of land is impacted by human needs and environmental factors. In countries
like India, rapid population growth and the emphasis on extensive resource exploitation can lead
to significant land degradation, adversely affecting the region's land cover.
Therefore, human intervention has significantly influenced land use patterns over many
centuries, evolving its structure over time and space. In the present era, these changes have
accelerated due to factors such as agriculture and urbanization. Information regarding land use and
cover is essential for various planning and management tasks related to the Earth's surface,
providing crucial environmental data for scientific, resource management, policy purposes, and
diverse human activities.
Accurate understanding of land use and cover is imperative for the development planning
of any area. Consequently, a wide range of professionals, including earth system scientists, land
and water managers, and urban planners, are interested in obtaining data on land use and cover
changes, conversion trends, and other related patterns. The spatial dimensions of land use and
cover support policymakers and scientists in making well-informed decisions, as alterations in
these patterns indicate shifts in economic and social conditions. Monitoring such changes with the
help of Advanced technologies like Remote Sensing and Geographic Information Systems is
crucial for coordinated efforts across different administrative levels. Advanced technologies like
Remote Sensing and Geographic Information Systems

The Chi-Square Distribution
If the null hypothesis is true then the sampling distribution of the
Chi-Square statistics can be closely approximately by continues curve
known as a Ch-Square distribution. The Chi-Square distribution is a
probability distribution. Therefore the total area under the curve in each
chi-squaredistribution is 1.0 so many differentchi-square distributionare
possible that is not practical to construct a table that illustrates the area
under the curve for all possible value of the area. There is a different chi-
square distribution for each different number of degrees of freedom.

combinations of responses for these two variables. The r × c cross
tabulation or contingencytable has r rows and c columns consistingof r
× c cells containingthe observed counts (frequencies) for each of the r ×
c combinations. This type of analysis is calleda contingencytable
analysis and is usuallyaccomplishedusinga chi-square statistic that
compares the observed counts with those that wouldbe expected if
there were no association between the two variables.
Appropriate Applications of Contingency Table Analysis
The followingare examples of situations in which a chi-square
contingencytable analysis wouldbe appropriate.
A study compares types of crime and whether the criminal is a
drinker or abstainer.
An analysis is undertaken to determine whether there is a gender
preference between candidates runningfor state governor.
9. 9 | P a g e
Reviewers want to know whether worker dropout rates are
differentfor participants in two differentjob-trainingprograms.
A marketing research companywants to know whether there is a
difference in response rates among small, medium, and large
companies that were sent a questionnaire.
Design Considerations for a Contingency Table Analysis
Two Sampling Strategies
Two separate sampling strategies lead to the chi-square
contingency table analysis discussed here.
Test of Independence
A single random sample of observations is selected from the
population of interest, and the data are categorized on the basis of the
two variables of interest. For example, in the marketing research, this
samplingstrategy wouldindicate that a single randomsample is selected,
and each selected sample is categorizedby size (small, medium, or large).
Test for Homogeneity
Separate random samples are taken from each of two or more
populations to determine whether the responses related to a single
categorical variable are consistent across populations. In the marketing
research, this sampling strategy would consider there to be three
populations of companies (based on size), and select a sample from each
of these populations. Then test to determine whether the response rates
differ or not.
The two-way table is set up the same way regardless of the
samplingstrategy, and the chi-square test is conducted in exactly the
10. 10 | P a g e
same way. The only real difference in the analysis is in the statement of
the hypotheses and conclusions.
Expected Cell Size Considerations
The validity of the chi-square testdepends on both the sample size
and the number of cells. Several rules of thumb have been suggested to
indicate whether the chi-square approximation is satisfactory. One such
rule suggestedby Cochran (1954) says that the approximation is adequate
if no expected cell frequencies are less than one and no more than 20%
are less than five.
Combining Categories
Because of the expected cell frequency criterion in the second
sampling strategy, it may be necessary to combine similar categories to
lessen the number of categories in your table or to examine the data by
subcategories.

at the cash counter of the bank . The representative of the respective
bank collect all the Cheque and the instrumentwhich drawn on there
and settle the accountand doing the clearingfunction this assembly of
the representative of the bank is called Clearinghouse NIFT perform the

throughoutthe country.
Inward clearing
The instrument and the settlement or the claim by the other banks or the
other branches of MCB on our Branch of MCB bank in which include the
cheque draft and etc, are drawn by the other bank customer or by the
MCB bank branches in clearingin the inwardclearingprocess there is

Outward clearing
The local clearing, a bundle cover is arrangedmanner the branch code
stamp, total amount and number of instruments. This amount should
match the one that is kept in the ClearingRegister. The cheques or the
instrumentwith bundle cover and outline are packed in NIFT bag. Before
putting these items in the bag, a plastic seal number is requiredand
should be written on the bundle cover and the same seal should be used
to close the NIFT bag. This is to ensure additional safety as when the seal
is opened, it is nonreplicable. If the seal number on the bag and on the
bundle cover does not match, it is a suggestion that the bag has been
tamper with. Strict action can be taken by NIFT and the Bank
consequently.

SWOT Analysis
Strength
Integrated approach with tax deduction from all sources of income
at one rate.
Resolution of Agency and moral hazardproblems by developing
provincial governments/local budgeting, accountingandauditing
frameworks.
Avoidance of deduction through withholdingtax as it distorts
horizontal tax equity.
Weaknesses
Contingencyapproach suffers from inadequatelyof literature.
Determination of situation in which managerial action is to be
taken involves analysis of a large number of variables with
multifarious dimensions.
Contingencyapproach beingcomplex, presents problems in
testing the percepts of the theory.
Contingencyapproach is basicallyreactive in nature.

Threats
If well managed the provincial/local govt. bond market can be
developed independentof national bond market.
Regulatory, supervisory, legal and tax frameworkshould
correspond to the regulations pertainingto corporate bond market
as provincial/local govt.
Opportunities
Clearlydefineddual personalityof Repos in Legal, Fiscal and
Accountingsystems for establishmentof effective Repo market.
Avoidance of Tax incentive on financial instruments to stimulate
saving as they distort prices and lead to inefficientresource
allocation.
Benefits of private sector bond market are enormous as the
issuance to debt securityof private sector to contribute towards
economic development through more efficientre-allocation of
capital.
Conclusion & Recommendations
The chi-square test of significance is useful as a tool to determine
whether or not it is worth the researcher's effortto interpreta contingency
table. A significantresultof this test means that the cells of a contingency
table should be interpreted. A non-significant test means that no effects
were discoveredandchance couldexplain the observed differences in the
cells.
