Literature after Edsa
1986-1995
The year 1986 marks a new beginning of a new scene for Filipino writers and artists. It saw the downfall of late President Ferdinand Marcos when he placed the Philippines under martial rule last September 21,1972. This action does not only oppress the writers' right to free expression but also created conditions that made collaboration and cooperation convenient choices for artists' struggling for recognition and survival. Furthermore, the growth of underground writing was created both in urban and in the countryside.

In linguistics, X-bar theory is a model of phrase-structure grammar and a theory of syntactic category formation[1] that was first proposed by Noam Chomsky in 1970[2] reformulating the ideas of Zellig Harris (1951,[3]) and further developed by Ray Jackendoff (1974,[4] 1977a,[5] 1977b[6]), along the lines of the theory of generative grammar put forth in the 1950s by Chomsky.[7][8] It attempts to capture the structure of phrasal categories with a single uniform structure called the X-bar schema, basing itself on the assumption that any phrase in natural language is an XP (X phrase) that is headed by a given syntactic category X. It played a significant role in resolving issues that phrase structure rules had, representative of which is the proliferation of grammatical rules, which is against the thesis of generative grammar.

X-bar theory was incorporated into both transformational and nontransformational theories of syntax, including government and binding theory (GB), generalized phrase structure grammar (GPSG), lexical-functional grammar (LFG), and head-driven phrase structure grammar (HPSG).[9] Although recent work in the minimalist program has largely abandoned X-bar schemata in favor of bare phrase structure approaches, the theory's central assumptions are still valid in different forms and terms in many theories of minimalist syntax.

Embracing GenAI - A Strategic ImperativePeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.

11. “First Love, Last Rites” is told by an unnamed narrator who
lives with his girlfriend in a quayside apartment in
England. Both are seventeen or eighteen years of age. It is
early summer, and the lovers, filled with youthful passion,
make love regularly on a mattress-covered table in front of
a big, open window. Once, while they are lying on the table,
the narrator becomes aware of clawing sounds behind the
wall; shortly afterward, Sissel also hears the noise.
The narrator and Sissel continue to lie on the mattresscovered table, talking and making love. Sissel develops foot
rot, the smell mingling with the smells of mud and seaweed
coming in through the window. The narrator hears the
creature in the wall and imagines it is his own creature in
Sissel’s body—one of feathers, claws, and gills. Sissel
hears the creature also, and her lover thinks the scratching
sound that grows out of their lovemaking is part of her
fantasy also.
By mid-July, the lovers touch less, no longer enjoying their
room. Adrian comes to visit them every day and wants to
fight with Sissel as in former days. He is sincerely
disgusted when the lovers touch.

13. A gallery attendant at the Hermitage. A young jazz buff in Tokyo. A
crooked British lawyer in Hong Kong. A disc jockey in Manhattan. A
physicist in Ireland. An elderly woman running a tea shack in rural China.
A cult-controlled terrorist in Okinawa. A musician in London. A
transmigrating spirit in Mongolia. What is the common thread of
coincidence or destiny that connects the lives of these nine souls in nine
far-flung countries, stretching across the globe from east to west? What
pattern do their linked fates form through time and space?
A writer of pyrotechnic virtuosity and profound compassion, a mind to
which nothing human is alien, David Mitchell spins genres, cultures, and
ideas like gossamer threads around and through these nine linked stories.
Many forces bind these lives, but at root all involve the same universal
longing for connection and transcendence, an axis of commonality that
leads in two directions--to creation and to destruction. In the end, as lives
converge with a fearful symmetry, Ghostwritten comes full circle, to a point
at which a familiar idea--that whether the planet is vast or small is merely a
matter of perspective--strikes home with the force of a new revelation. It
marks the debut of a writer of astonishing gifts.

15. Shaw was conscious of the
difficulties involved in staging a
complete representation of the play.
Acknowledging in a "note for
technicians" that such a thing would
only be possible "on the cinema
screen or on stages furnished with
exceptionally elaborate machinery",
he marked some scenes as
candidates for omission if necessary.
Of these, a short scene at the end of
Act One in which Eliza goes home,
and a scene in Act Two in which
Eliza is unwilling to undress for her
bath. The others are the scene at the
Embassy Ball in Act Three and the
scene with Eliza and Freddy in Act
Four.
