This survey was conducted to study about consumer loans market in
Thailand
Consumer loan definition: a loan that is lent to customers for personal,
family, or household purposes. The loan is usually unsecured and is
based solely on borrower’s integrity and ability to pay.
Methodology: Online survey
Fieldwork time: 10 days (10/10/2016 to 20/10/2016)
Sample size: N = 569
Geography: Nationwide

• Krungthai, Siam Commercials, and Krungsri are the most well-known banks in Thailand
• Ads on TV, Facebook and webs/forums are the main sources of awareness for consumer loan services
• 75% of Thai online population have used consumer loan services in Thailand, in which Krungthai and Aeon
are market leaders
• Most choose their services based on reliability and simple registration
• Thai people mostly apply for consumer loans to buy mobile phone, house, and electronic appliances
• 95% of consumer loans in Thailand are installment consumer loans
• Most consumer loans are small, just under $250 for each loan
• Typical installment term is between 6 and 12 months
• Gifts, vouchers, and discounts for other products are the preferred promotions to be coupled with consumer
loan services
• Overall, 83% respondents feel satisfied with their current customer loan services provider
• Krungthai has the highest loyalty rate with 50% while 19% of EASY BUY users (top 6 consumer loan service
provider in term of market size) will switch to another provider
• Generally, high interest rate, bad customer service, and complicated registration procedure are making
customers unhappy
• 77% have pawned their properties at least once
• The higher income, the more valuable their pawned properties
• 82% have at least once take on a high interest rate loan
