The Past And Present Defining Characteristics Of The Sami...
Evidence suggests human presense in parts of Norway, Sweden, Finland, and even Russia over
9,000 years ago (Joessefson, 142). However, it would not be until thousands of years later that a
highly unique and successful tribe would form, known as the Sami. While many Sami have
assimilated into modern European culture, central traits still exists within this indigiouns group
native to the Sapmi region. Some Sami still practice modes of subsistence, systems of marriage,
kinship, social organization, and religion common to their ancestors. However, today, the Sami are
faced with social issues distinct from those of their predesesors, such as pressures to conform to
modern society, economic struggles, and in some cases, loss of community. It is important to
evaluate both the past and present defining characteristics of the Sami peoples to fully understand
their culture. One of the most well known characterisitics of the Sami is their skill in reindeer
pastoralism. Though, pastoralism was not their initial mode of substiance, instead, the Sami began
as a hunter gatherer society. As northern Europe is subject to extreme and lengthy winters, the Sami
caught and harvested what they could. Beaver, reindeer, and fish were among the most commonly
hunted by the Sami (Bergman, other 27). Artic rose, a plant rich with vitamins, was a popular
edible plant that was also central to the Sami diet (Loeffler, 70). As well, geographical positioning
distinguished the diets of some Sami bands

Character comparison
The movie Dead Poet Society is very similar to the story A Separate Piece the characters in each
story are also very similar. For example, the character Finny from the story and Neil from the
movie both share a lot of similarities.
In the story A Separate Piece the second main characterwas Finny. Finny attended Devon a
boarding school. Finny was very outgoing, intelligent, very handsome, great athlete. Finny was
able to get along with everyone loved him and always wanted to be around him. Everything he did

Analysis Of Kanye West s Song All Falls Down
The song I have chosen to talk about is one of my favorite songs ever and it s called All Falls
Down by Kanye West. The College Dropout came out in 2004 and was Kanye Wests debut
album as a music artist. This song was his third single off the album. As shown from Barbaric
Poetries blog, Tia states that Kanye s message in this song is that, when you live life to impress
others and cover up your insecurities, you will never be satisfied, thus all will seem to fall down
(http://barbaricpoetries. blogspot.com/2012/04/and it all falls down.html). The catchy melody
given in the beginning of the song is what caught everyone s ears when it first came out. Kanye

basically existing off what her parents wants for her and not for herself. Even if you wanted to
become successful in life there has to be consequences you have to take in order to become
prosperous. In the life of a college student you find that the student is the one who has to take
penalties in order to get that degree. Making time for yourself to succeed is mandatory for you to
keep in your mind at all times. Since Kanye named his album The College Dropout , he frequently
inquiries the significance of going to college. The title of his debut album actually tells us a
story of everything that he was going through at the time. Several individuals go to college
because it s a safe way to partake if you don t have anything planned after you have graduated
from high school. Great parents will tell their children to go to college because it would be a
backup plan if they didn t do anything else with their career. If plan A doesn t work, you always
have plan B to back you up right after. A lot of people will most likely assume they ll get a very
nice profession after college but it usually doesn t end up that way. People just end up working
with jobs that have nothing to do with their careers because it would be so hard to find one with
their studies and some people just don t have a job right after. Nothing is promised after you
finished college unless you work your butt off. As he states in his lyrics That major that she

Macroeconomics Essay on Aggregate Demand and Aggregate Supply
A. Fracking technology matures and significantly reduces the costs of producing oil and natural
gas. First of all, the fact that the overall costs of producing oil and natural gas will be reduced,
then companies will be able to produce more for the same costs or increase their profit margins.
At higher aggregate supply, the price is likely to decrease, compensating the fact that the
companies have reduced their costs and allowing them to produce at the same level for similar
prices. Aggregate demand will also increase, mainly because the products and services that are
associated with oil and natural gas will become more affordable. As aggregate demand increases,
the price will also likely increase in the short term, at least until aggregate supply and demand
regulate themselves at a new level. Ideally, however, new technologies will make oil and natural
gas more affordable, which would lower the overall price of products and services, since costs,
including transportation costs, are lower. B. The European Union disbands and individual
European countries enact large tariffs on the importation of American goods. There are several
elements to be discussed about this event. First, the European Union is a customs union, in the
sense that all the member countries enact the same tariff on a particular import of goods from the
United States. This means that imports from the US of a particular good has a tariff that ranges
from 0 % to higher levels. Disbanding means mainly

American Hurricane
A strong hurricane normally has three factors that make it so destructive, Death, Destruction and
the area impacted (the great new england hurricane). The great hurricane of 1938 certainly had
three factors, but what factors made the hurricane s impact so powerful, and what was the impact
like The first of three hurricanes that had a large effect on the New England area is considered a
strong hurricane for three particular reasons. The conditions that made it so powerful, the absurd
amount of human error in a weather system almost riddled with ignorance and the blunt and
forceful impact it had on an unexpecting region. To explain the first condition that made the storma
hurricane, one must go to the Cape Verde Islands (youtube). The islands sit near a one hundred and
twenty foot deep pool of warm water(youtube). Warm water, being a necessity when creating a
hurricane makes it obvious why this hurricane along with so many others, are formed
here(youtube). The hurricane then traveled across the atlantic, all that time gaining strength hit
long island as a category three hurricane( the great new england hurricane). After a hurricane makes

the storm would die out at sea off cape hatteras, what only one forecaster knew, was that two high

Sexual Violence Against Black Women
According to the 2017 National Intimate Partner and Sexual Violence survey published by the CDC
(Centers for Disease Control and Prevention), approximately 35.5% of Black women experience
some type of sexual violence in their lifetime (CDC, 2017). To understand the underlying causes of
this phenomenon, both the sexuality and general experience of Black women need to be
understood in context. It is also important to maintain an intersectional lens, as both identities of
Black and woman are important in understanding the black female experience and the violencethat
accompanies it (Crenshaw, Delgado, Matsuda, Lawrence, 2018). I will posit that the high
occurrence of sexual violence against Black women stems in part from the fact that the... Show

Two prominent examples of popular artists in this position are Nicki Minaj and Cardi B. They
are important because their immense popularity has a significant impact on how Black female
sexuality is viewed by mainstream audiences. To begin, Nicki Minaj is a popular rapper who
emerged on the scene in 2004 and with 86.2 million followers, she is the most followed rapper
on Instagram (as of April 2018). In a genre that consistently objectifies Black female bodies,
Minaj attempts to assert agency in her own sexual representation, an example of which is on the

Bodak Yellow. The song broke records as it stayed on the Hot 100 list for three consecutive
weeks, making her the only female rapper to do so since 1998. Similarly, to Minaj, Cardi B also
attempts to assert control over her sexuality, making a poignant statement by wearing an A (ГЎ la

Johnny Cash Essay
Johnny Cash was born on February 26th, 1932 in Kingsland, Arkansas. Cash was one of seven
children born to his parents, Ray Cash and Carrie Cloveree. He was named J.R Cash at birth, but
when he later enlisted in the US army he was not allowed use those initials. He then changed his
name is John R.Cash and took Johnny Cashas his stage name. Johnny Cash was an American singer
songwriter, guitarist, actor, and author, widely considered one of the most influential musicians of
the 20th century.
Jonny Cash was one of the first people to play in the American prisons. Cash preformed his first
concerts for inmates in 1957 in Texas at the Huntsville State Prison. In 1958 he performed at San
Quentin for the first time, where he influenced inmate Merle Haggard to join the prison country
band and later make a band of his own called The Strangers. In 1966, he first performed in Folsom
Prison for which he wrote the song Folsom Prison Blues
Although Cash carefully cultivated a romantic outlaw image, he never served a prison sentence,
even though he was in jail seven times for small offences, each stay lasted only a single night.
His most well known encounter with the law happened while on tour in 1965, when he was
arrested October 4 by a narcotics squad in El Paso, Texas. The officers suspected he was
smuggling heroin from Mexico, but found instead 688 ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

viola da gamba, chalumeau, and clavier. His familywas not happy with his fondness for musicthey
did not believe that it would make for a good occupation. ( Georg Philipp Telemann. ) Despite his
clear musical talent, in 1701 he went to the University of Leipzig as a law student. While there he

ISIS Summary And Analysis
In June 2014, a new reign of terror was brought into power amid the political turmoil of the
Middle East. The Islamic jihadist militant group ISIS (the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria), also
known as ISIL, Daesh, and IS, claims to have established a Caliphate, or religiously led absolute
state ( ISIS Rebels Declare... ). This group has gained notoriety for its brutality towards
nonbelievers and those perceived to be western, utilizing social media and the internet to publish
brutal execution videos. How is it that such a group has managed to gain and keep members despite
it s reputation for cruelty and inhumanity? The answer lies in propaganda and indoctrination, as

Through these methods, ISIS recruiters are able to reach potential targets anywhere in the
world. In Rukminki Callimachi s ВЁISIS and the Lonely Young AmericanВЁ, he interviews one
of such targets. A young woman named Alex is contacted by a British ISIS supporter who
essentially brainwashes her into identifying with the radical Islamic message. He encourages
fellow members to befriend Alex, send her gifts, act as an emotional support system for her, and
even offering to find her a husband, all with the intent to make her more susceptible to his dogma
(Callimachi). These highly structured emotional manipulations are frequently used by ISIS in
order to indoctrinate the easily influenced. These jihadists have developed a guide for their
recruiters, describing step by step how to identify potential candidates for brainwashing as well
as how to get them to subscribe to radical political and religious ideals (Warius). The guide
includes a clear, step by step process that even the most inexperienced jihadi could follow. Slowly
introducing the recruit to their ideology, the program describes tools for careful quantitative

Overcoming Fear In Harper Lee s To Kill A Mockingbird
It s the 1930s and racism, classism, sexism is prominent and the Great Depression is happening.
In 1930, Harper Lee was 4 years of age. 1930, is the time period that her book, To Kill a
Mockingbird, takes place. Due to growing up in the 1930s, Harper Lee has experienced all of
the issues above, which provided her with material for themes and purposes in her book. Harper
Lee uses imagery, metaphors, and characterization to show the theme of overcoming fear. First,
Harper Lee uses imagery to show the importance of overcoming the fear of a person. For
example, on page 319 320 as Scout links arms with Boo to escort him home she says to herself,
He had to stoop a little to accommodate me, but if Miss Stephanie Crawford was watching from
her upstairs window, she would see Arthur Radley escorting me down the sidewalk, as any
gentleman would do. With this quote, Harper Lee is communicating to the reader through the
imagery of Boo, who is walking with her like a gentleman, that Scout no longer cares about what
Miss Stephanie Crawford says about Boo because Harper Lee has created the mindset that Scout is
willfully hoping Miss Stephanie Crawford is peeping through her window and sees that Boo is
being a gentleman not a monster. Harper Lee is communicating to the reader that people do have
opinions and make assumptions about people. And that once someone gets to know the person that
is made out to be a villain, that those assumptions can sometimes be incorrect just like Miss

Analysis Of Concord, By Jakob Andreae And Martin Chemnitz
The book of Concord, or Concordia , lays out the beliefs and theology of the Lutheran Church. It
was officially put together as of 1580, or late 16th century in order to put a stop to religious
controversy after the death of Martin Luther in 1546. This book was written by a group of
theologians led by Jakob Andreae and Martin Chemnitz. This book was intended to grasp all of the
prefaced doctrines and beliefs and to put together the Lutheran Church as we know it today. It opens
with a preface, and then goes into three past creeds that establish what a Christian is, then followed
by the Ausburg Confession, Which is the literal written out beliefs of The Lutheran Church.
Inside of the Ausburg confession, there are 28 articles, including a preface and a conclusion,
though only the first 21 are actual chief articles of faith, the other 7 speak of abuses of power.
Article 1 is about how the Lutheran church sees God as a whole, believing in the Triune God and
reject other interpretations regarding the nature of God.
Article 2 speaks of sin, how since the fall of Adam, all men (and women) are born into sin without
the fear of God, without trust in God and with strong desires to please oneself, and that even now
we are dead to sin, unless saved through being born again through babtism and the Holy Ghost.
Article 3 speaks on their beliefs in Jesus, or the Son of God. They believe that the Word did assume
human nature in the womb of Mother Mary, but also kept his divine holiness,

Methods Of Dividing The Networks Into Small Controllable...
3.1 Clustering approach: The approach of dividing the networks into small controllable units is
called as clustering. The clustering technique advances the scalability of network through ease of
implementation and results energy efficient routing within the sensor networks. The clustering
approach has some other advantages also like conserving communication bandwidth, avoiding
redundant message transfer, localizing energy efficient route setup etc. LEACH, HEED, DECA,
etc. are the energy efficient routing protocols based on clustering technique. 3.1.1 LEACH: LEACH
stands for Low energy adaptive clustering hierarchy [10]. It uses the clustering technique to
distribute the energy consumption beside its network. LEACH protocol divides the network in the
form of cluster heads and clusters to gather the data packet information. The cluster heads do get
together with cluster nodes to collect the data information. Each round of LEACH protocol
performs following steps: Advertisement phase: It is the first step. The cluster head issues a
notification to the nodes to become a cluster member in its cluster within its transmission range.
The nodes recognize the information based upon the Received Signal Strength [10]. Cluster set up
phase: Nodes within cluster respond to their cluster heads. Schedule creation: After receiving
reaction from the cluster nodes the cluster head (CH) construct TDMA scheme and send it back to
cluster node member to intimate them when they have to pass

Structural Strain Theory
Sociology can be looked at and studied in many different ways. Sociology is usually split into
many different places so that sociologists can look at one individual group instead of everyone
together. This is a society. A society is an organised group of people. Sociologists study these
groups to get more accurate information. One thing that sociologists look at when they look at
these societies is the deviance of the group. Deviance is anything that goes against social norms
of a specific place. Deviance varies depending on time and location of the specific group the
sociologists are studying. A norm is a set of expected behaviors for a given role and social status.
Deviance is a magnificent part of sociology. Deviance is any behavior,... Show more content on

The Strain Theory asserts that people commit deviant acts when the strain of society becomes
too much for the person to handle. Often their deviance is due to their feelings of anomie,
meaningless, due to not understanding how the social norms affect them. This is usually
because the norms are are confusing or weak. There is a social consensus in society about
socially approved achievements and goals. This consensus tells what one should strive for in
order to achieve according to society. Society places these certain goals that all people of that
society try to pursue. These people either have to work in the structure that society has made or
if the pressure is too much they will turn to deviant acts in an attempt to achieve those goals.
When there is a gap between the person s current standing in society and the overall goal society
has created based on The Strain Theory people will act upon this gap in five different ways:
Conformity, innovation, ritualism, retreatism, and rebellion. Conformity is the acceptance of
the cultural goals and means of attaining those goals. This is the way a normal person would go
about to achieve the goals set by society. Innovation is the acceptance of the goals of a culture
but the rejection of the traditional and legitimate means of attaining those goals, e.g, a drug
dealer accepts the goals he has to accomplish but society does not necessarily agree with those
goals. This is how one completes a goal set by society but does not necessarily go the normal
way to do it. Ritualism is the rejection of cultural goals but the routinized acceptance of the way
of achieving those goals. For example, A man who has a wife and family is a hard worker and
makes an average income. He believes that money is not everything and is more happy with his
family life. He knows that it is unlikely that he will ever become rich but he is happy with that and

Space Landing Pros And Cons
That s one small step for a man, one giant leap for mankind, Neil Armstrong said on July 20th,
1969. Neil Armstrong was the first man on the moon and he was accompanied by Buzz Aldrin.
Apollo 11 launched on July 16th, 1969 and landed on the moon on July 20th, 1969. The objective
of the space landing was a national goal set by John F. Kennedy. Armstrong and Aldrin spent 21
hours on the moonwith seven hours of sleep. But is this all true, or is it all a lie?
Body of Research:
On July 20th, 1969 Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin set foot on the moon. Or did they?
Actually, yes, NASA did, but that hasn t stopped conspiracy theories from surfacing. Conspiracy
theorists have made people believe that humans never set foot on the lunar surface, and that the
entire effort was massively staged. In many of pictures of the landing, the American flag that Neil
Armstrong put up has ripples. But how is this possible, once you put it on surface there is no
wind? Well scientists have said that the flag s edges are pulled taut. They said when you do this
effect, which was done purposely, you put a stiff wire into the fabric. They did this because instead
of letting the flag hang flat, the wire creates ripples.
Another conspiracy is that they re multiple shadows in the moon photos prove there was more than
one source of light. Again scientist debunked this theory too. When taking the pictures the
astronauts were on a hilly, brightly lit landscape while the sun was close to the

The Intersection Of Social Movements And Art
The intersection of social movements and Art is one that can be observed throughout the civil
right movements of America in the 1960 s and early 1970 s. The sixties in America saw a
substantial cultural and social change through activism against the Vietnam war, women s right
and against the segregation of the African American communities. Art became a prominent
method of activism to advocate the civil rights movement. It was a way to express self identity
as well as the struggle that people went through and by means of visual imagery a way to show
political ideals and forms of resistance. To examine how a specific movement can have a profound

Secondly, observing the work of Emma Amos who was the only women within the spiral group.
Romare Bearden, started his artistic career being an abstractionist, however the civil right
movement had an impact on his art which lead him to the creation of the group called spiral. With
the help of other black artists, Bearden sought to reflect how they could portray their connection to
the civil right movement through their arts as a racial group minority. Ralph Ellison (1977),
mentions the anachronism of the American social experience of minority artists which could then
be used to understand the motivation behind the art of Bearden. This anachronism refers to; The
imbalance in American society which leads to a distorted perception of social reality, to a stubborn
blindness to the creative possibilities of cultural diversity, to the prevalence of negative myth, racial
stereotypes and dangerous illusion about art, humanities and society. (Ellison: 1977 : pp.673) It is
then argued that many artists are often majorly influenced by the power of this anachronism, as
their culture as well as the freedom of representing their self identity through aesthetic technique of
self expression that are already existing. This, then restrict their attempt to seek change of the
complex social situation they experience. Meanwhile, it is said that Bearden attempt not to follow
the anachronism in is art by transforming it into a component of art as a mean of personal vision

Genetically Modified Organisms And The Environment
While America is excited about genetically modified organisms and think that they are god sent
other countries are weary of them and think that they are dangerous. While many other countries
label genetically modified organisms because they think that people should have a choice whether
or not they want to consume them America believes that their people should not have to know
therefore taking the people s choice away and making the decision for them. There have been
studies that have shown that genetically modified organisms have opened doors to new
possibilities, but at the same time have become a danger to humans and the environment. Although
some may think that genetic engineering is progress for humanity others think America should not
produce and sell genetically modified organisms because it is unsafe for human consumption, and it
is harmful to the environment.
Genetically modified organisms are living organisms that have been artificially manipulated in a
laboratory through genetic engineering. This relatively new science creates unstable combinations
of plant, animal, bacteria and viral genes that do not occur in nature or through traditional
crossbreeding methods. Genetic engineering works because all genes have the same basic structure
and work in the same way. Thus, they are in a sense interchangeable (Yount). Genetically modified
organisms are uncontrollable, and dangerous to humans and the environment and humans should
not be eating anything that has been

Taking a Look at Marfan Syndrome
Marfan Syndrome, which is named after Antoine Marfan who first described the disorder in 1896,
is a genetic disorder that affects the connective tissues found throughout the body. This syndrome
can affect many different parts of the body, but the most commonly affected are the heart, blood
vessels, bones, joints, respiratory system, nervous system, and eyes. Thankfully, a person s
intelligence is never affected. Marfan syndromeaffects people from all races and ethnic
backgrounds, and this often makes it hard to detect. It is a pretty rare genetic disorder affecting
only about 1 in every 5,000 people.
This syndrome is from a mutation of a gene on chromosome 15 and this causes problems in the
production of fibrillin 1 which is a protein that is an important part of connective tissue. The name
for the gene is FBN1. Basically, it is the glue that helps to support the tissues in the human body. A
child born to a parent with this syndrome has a 50% of having it. However, in the remaining 25%,
neither parent has the disease which gives them a 1 in 10,000 chance of having a child with this
disorder. When a child of two unaffected parents is born with it then the genetic mutation occurs in
either the egg or sperm cell at the time of conception.
The defect of this glue leads to phenotypes such as a thin, lanky build, flexible joints, sunken eyes,
a chest that is sunken in or bulges out, curvature of the spine to one side (scoliosis), and flat feet.

Cyber Bullying And Its Effects On Children
Bullying, according to Oxford Dictionary, is the use of superior strength or influence to
intimidate, typically to force someone to do what one wants. Growing up, the only bullying
that I have witnessed is on the television. The majority of people perceive a bully as a tough boy
threatening another for his lunch money, but times have changed in unison with technology
evolving. One of the overwhelmingly popular uses of the internet is to contact friends and
relatives by posting pictures and sending comments on social media websites. For example,
according to Jay Baer, a social media researcher, 56% of Americans have a profile on a social
networking site . The outcomes of these sites when used appropriately are enjoyable, but for
children ages ten to eighteen, cyber bullying is a frequent activity through the sites. Social
media websites need filters to decrease cyber bullying since young users have no remote
understanding of the unsafe environment and of the depth the effects cyber bullying has on
their victims, as well as themselves. Social media websites do not provide a safe and friendly
environment for all age ranges. Consequently, 81% of teens use some kind of social media
making it a popular, yet cowardly source for bullying. Since smart phones and computers
surround each one of us, teens hide behind them. It is easier to send a rude message or comment
on a website than actually saying it to someone s face. The people social media sites are molding us
to be is

Ganglioside Research Paper
Gangliosides (GM) are glycosphingolipids with complex structures that are found within cellular
membranes. They are most abundant in the nervous system with many important functions such
as serving as the structural components of biomembranes, mediators in signal transductions, and
playing a role in cell to cell recognition. While the presence of gangliosides is vital to cellular
function, ganglisoide degradation is necessary to prevent a buildup of lipids. The excess presence
of gangliosides in the cell ultimately causes apoptosis. There are several different classifications
of gangliosides, however, a buildup of lipids resulting from improper GM2 ganglioside catabolism
results from the lack of enzyme ОІ hexosaminidase A. The lysosomal... Show more content on

transport the GM2 ganglioside from the cellular membrane to the lysosome for degradation, but is
unable to process it further since the О± subunit of ОІ hexosaminidase A cannot cleave the terminal
N acetylgalactosamine group. Without this cleavage, the lysosome is unable to digest the GM2

African American Males s Education
African American males struggle every day to prove their worth in an educational setting.
According to society these young men are when it comes to their peers. Early education or daycare
is a child s first educational learning experience outside the home. However, not all African
American males have this experience. A handful of African American
males miss the opportunity to
experience the positive benefits of learning social and cognitive skills. As a result, the absence of
the early educationeffects the African American males ability to achieve higher learning. By the
start of elementary school, these young men are already behind their peers in learning new
information. In an effort to hide their lack of understanding they lose focus and become disruptive
and begin to act like the class clown. Although the blame shouldn t be placed solely on them, their
teachers play a major role when it comes to educating the youth. They have to discover what
inspires each child, yet they always seem to abandon the African American male s interest and
individual learning style. Young men go through the school system experiencing deficiency when it
comes to their learning styles, due to the lack of teachers understanding their circumstances and
how to engage them. Every child, especially African American males can have a chance to succeed
in school if teachers have a full understanding of their cultural and learning styles. Which leads

Descriptive Essay For Lady Macbeth
Welcome all! The loud speakers surrounding the room blurted, startling me. Seats were quickly
being filled alongside the room by hundreds in attendance for Macbeth s coronation. James, my
husband, suggested we arrive early to guarantee our seating. Bright, red drapes patterned with gold
rested along each wall, immediately catching my attention. A massive diamond chandelier hung
above. Ellyn, they re starting, my husband whispered while tapping my shoulder. The tall, wooden
doors with iron ornaments behind us creaked open slowly. Macbeth, wearing a surcoat which rested
over a yellow dress, appeared behind them. His wife, LadyMacbeth, alongside. I couldn t steer my

embroidered symmetrically with lace and gems, including a luxurious tunic rested effortlessly
upon it. They lingered between the groups of people as they clapped. It felt as if hours had passed
before they reached their destination at the front of the room. Thank you! Macbeth said graciously.
He, along with his lady, seated themselves in the royal chairs. The room became silent as Macbeth
took the coronation oath reciting each word with confidence. The crown, shining brightly, was
placed upon his head by a gentleman. This gentleman turned to Lady Macbeth immediately after,
questioning, Madam, is your Majesty willing to take the oath? I am willing, she replied gracefully.

Journey Of Truth In John Cheever s The Swimmer
Journey of Truth The short story The Swimmer by John Cheever, is about a man s swimming
journey home after a long night of drinking. Cheever uses the man s journey home as a metaphor
for the journey of alcohol. Cheever shows the parallels between the man s journey home and the
journey alcohol takes a person in many ways. The main two are the way he feels after each new
pool, and the time that lapses on his journey. The first way Cheever uses to show the parallels, is
the way the main character feels after each pool. The man, in the beginning, is strong and
energetic, feels good about his life, and is looked up to by his friends. The man thinks of himself
as a legendary figure (Cheever, Pg1). As if there was nothing he could not do. As his journey
progresses he changes. Physically, he gets weaker, and is unable to pull himself out of the pool
without the use of the pool ladder and is unwilling to dive into the pool, as before. He goes from
being warm to being chilled to the bone. The man would also start feeling bad if he did not drink.
A person who uses alcohol in a continuous manner, and then tries to give up drinking for a
prolonged amount of time, can go through withdrawals from the alcohol. The reason that this
shows parallels between the man s journey home and the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Time in the beginning of the story went by slowly. Then, towards the middle of his journey home
he realizes that the leaves have started to change colors, and that it was getting cooler. The journey
of alcohol and the man s journey are tied together. When the man started his journey he was warm
and happy, and by the time the story ended the man was cold and miserable. So what Cheever is
trying to illustrate is that the man s journey started in the summer, and ended getting close to
winter. This was obtained by describing the seasons changing from summer to fall and then to

Couch Potato 2 Analysis
I have been to many different musical performances throughout my life, and have performed in
about as many as well. These performances range in purpose and technique from a Native American
powwow intended to unify people of different tribes, to professional a cappella groups performing
in front of large audiences for entertainment. No matter what culture presents musicor what genre it
belongs to, something can be learned from a performance. One specific musical performance that I
would like to analyze is the Uintah High School choral concerttitled Couch Potato 2, which took
place in Vernal, Utah, on February 23, 2017. This concert, Couch Potato 2, is a perfect example of
a community performance designed to engage the crowd as well as the performers. In order to

Gun Violence Policy
According to the lecture on Gun Violence, there are currently over 300 million guns in the
possession of private citizen. Americans have over 75 guns per 100 people, whereas other
western countries range from 5 to 30 guns per 100 people (2007 small arms survey). Gun violence
is a major issue in the United Statesdue to lack of guncontrol. The lack of gun control makes
handguns too readily available to citizens, allows those who should not own a firearmthe ability to
purchase firearms, and no policy on secure storage of firearms. As a result, I conclude that a
combination of restriction of private ownership of handguns and stricter background check and
storage policy would eliminate some of the violence caused by guns. To decrease gun violence

Robinson behaved as a father for Friday teaching him to speak English and converting him to
Christianity. In fact, he changed Friday from cannibalism to a Christian who believes in God.
There is a strong spiritual relationship that relates the two men. They engaged in various
theological debates finding out that there are some similarities between the two beliefs. Friday s
religion involves the worship of a mountain god named Bemamuckee represented by priests called
Oowokakee. Friday has many doubts towards Christianity especially regarding the devil. If God

Foodborne Illnesses In The United States
There have been many outbreaks of foodborne illnesses in the United States which claim
thousands of lives each year. I chose my essay topic based on my desire to contribute to creating
awareness of simple methods of foodborne disease prevention. Also, I currently work in the
healthcare service industry and I am enrolled in Community and Public Health with UoPeople. This
topic is directly related to my career.
Foodborne illnesses are infections of the digestive tract caused by eating infected foods or drinks.
These illnesses are caused by pathogens such as harmful bacteria, parasites, and viruses. These
pathogens cause death or get people hospitalized. Some examples are Salmonella, E.coli, and
Norovirus. These are found in raw and undercooked ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The results showed that foods contaminated by these pathogens caused 9.4 million illnesses, 55,961
hospitalizations, and 1,351 deaths each year (p. 12).
Even though people are aware of the importance of cleaning their homes, majority do not
comprehend how cleaning can reduce the level of bacteria in their meals. Also, a lot of Americans
undercook their meat, chicken, and egg. Most do not understand, or find it difficult to understand
the safe food handling instructions on the labels of the products they buy. They even do not keep
to the recommended requirements when storing food in their refrigerators. Since proper food
storage reduces the rate of bacteria growth, the refrigerator temperature should be set to between
32F and 41F. (Bruhn, 2014, p. 319, 326)
However, according to Doyle, et al (2015), there has been reduction in the number of outbreaks
and illnesses due to E.coli infections in the past 15 years. This is due to CDC mandate that
clinicians conduct laboratory testing and reporting of microbial agents that cause illnesses. As a
result, foods highly at risk of getting contaminated are being monitored, inclding natural foods that
contain little or no antimicrobial agents (p. 254). Also, clinicians have taken more active role in
educating people about ways to prevent or reduce foodborne diseases. Washing hands properly as
well as changing cutting boards after handling raw poultry or meat is very important for food

Mesozoic Vertebrates
Mesozoic vertebrates of Texas have received less attention than Paleozoic. In the early 1900s E.
C. Case collected and reported amphibians and reptiles found in Triassic sediments along the
eastern edge of the High Plains, and Sankar Chatterjee of Texas Tech University has also made
important discoveries there. Notable are skeletons of phytosaurs. These aquatic reptiles, up to thirty
feet in length, had elongated snouts armed with thick, sharply pointed teeth. Their habits were
probably much like those of modern crocodiles. Some lightly armored forms were not unlike
crocodiles in appearance, except for their long, hook nosed snouts, but some armored types of
phytosaurs may have looked almost like arthropods. Through work centered at the University of
Texas at Austin, parts of the Trans Pecos region have yielded important fossils of Cretaceous
reptiles, among them enormous crocodiles and the largest known pterosaur. Much of Central Texas
probably contains bones of Cretaceous vertebrates, but the land is so heavily vegetated that
discoveries are few. However, remains of dinosaurs, plesiosaurs, and even primitive mammals have
been found and are preserved at the University of Texas and Southern Methodist University. Fossil

In figure 1 (Bartley), shown above, ninety eight percent of test subjects agree that Shape A is
Kiki while Shape B is Bouba. From studies of sound symbolism, one can infer that before
knowing anything about a person or subject, most people already have predetermined feelings
about the person or subject. Due to sound symbolism, among other factors, a person s name could
potentially affect his or her personality. This is because outside perceptions of one can influence
one s self perception (Deluzain). In his book about psychology, Alter mentions every name is
associated with demographic baggage (Drunk Tank Pink 9). Different names can indicate a person
s age or ethnicity; coupled with the idea that children tend to follow expectations set for them
(Bryner), this provides a reason why names can affect a person s personality. When children are met
repetitively by a certain expectation, they start to believe what is said about them, that others
perception of them is correct, and follow this expectation. Adults too, when in the outside world and
met with different biases due to their names, may act the ways others believe them to act, and not
how they might naturally act. Names also have different connotations, influencing a person to act a
certain way. For example, children with names that are closer to the opposite gender version of the
name are influenced to act differently

The Quatrain Factory By Rita Dove
The Great Migration was a tough time in American history, when millions of African Americans
migrated north in search of job opportunities. The Zeppelin Factory, is an epic poem written by
Rita Dove about her hard working grandfather named Thomas during this period in history. The
major themes portrayed throughout this poem are the hardships faced by her grandfather during
these difficult times and struggling to cope with death. These themes are portrayed through Dove
s application of poetic form and structure, diction, and figurative language. The poetic form and
structure of Dove s poem is important in portraying Dove s theme of coping with death. The
poem is made up of three octets, a couplet, and a quatrain. Having the couplet right after three
octets abruptly disrupts the flow of the poem, similarly to how an individual s life can feel as
though it has stopped after a death has occurred. However, the quatrain shows that even after that
abrupt disruption, life will still go on. In addition, the lineation helps emphasize the concept of
death to the reader. For example, when describing the launch of The Akron, Dove ends several of
her lines with words that are associated with life and death situations such as, adrenalin, fell,
clawing, and dropped. Together,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Habeas Corpus Law in the US
Habeas Corpus U.S.
Introduction
Many may not know this but following his inauguration, President Obama did put in some orders
to basically just shut down the U.S. prison at Guantanamo Bay within one year. However, about
two years later, nevertheless, Obama s plan to close Guantanamo is in disasters. In excess of 180

actually further from closing Guantanamo now than it was after Obama s inauguration.
However, if we go back to the Bush years, we will discover that actually right after the U.S.
attack of Afghanistan in 2001, the Bush administration had started developing a plan for holding
and questioning apprehended prisoners. Most of these prisoners were then sent to a prison that
was inside a U.S. naval base at Guantanamo Bay, which happened to be on land that had been

Government In Healthcare
Governments should play a significant role in providing citizens with the basic requirements that
every individual is in need of. Having the government being involved in our economic issues is an
important stance. The government should ensure that citizens fundamental and crucial needs are
met, by helping them with healthcare, shelter and education.
A good healthcare should be an absolute right for all people and all ages. Positions, conditions or
economic situations should not dictate who lives and enjoys good health or who doesn t.
Healthcare should be provided by the government for people who cannot afford it. 2009 studies
from Harvard researchers show that More than 13,000 deaths occur each year just in the 55 64

sedimentary rocks are types of rock that are formed by the deposition of material at the Earth s
surface and within bodies of water. Permeability in these rock is a measure of the ease with
which fluid flows through a porous rock, and is a function of the degree of interconnection
between the pores. Permeability can be separated into three parts: absolute, effective, and
relative. Absolute is when pore spaces are 100% saturated with the same fluid, effective is when
the permeability of a flowing phase that does not saturate 100% of the rock, and relative which
is the ratio of effective permeability to absolute permeability of the same rock. When
permeability is low the degree at which fluids can flow through the rock is low and therefore not
a good means of producing hydrocarbons. Even if a reservoir has a high saturation, a low
permeable rock will have no means of obtaining the porous medium. However this is not the only
cause with saturations of rock. The irreducible water saturation also plays a part in the production
of hydrocarbons. This is when water is held against the rock grains by surface tension and cannot
be produced which is determined by grain structure, i.e. size and mixture. Normal pressure below
the earth has a linear relationship with temperature and depth, i.e. as depth increases the
temperature and pressure increases, however

Video Art Evaluation
I will give myself 79 for the video I shot. It is fairly engaged the project theme. It is a non
narrative video and exactly one minute. I think the most prominent point of my video is the
conceptual development. I watched carefully of the videos you played in the class and put on the
coursespaces. I also watched many video art projects after class in order to apprehend the idea of
video art and tell the differences between video art and filmand cinema. Then, I chose to shoot a
video of my friend who performed a series of body movement. She did a handstand at the
beginning of the video, and she tumbled for three times, then tried to stand upside down for
many times; in the end, she showed a state of physical exhaustion. I designed all the actions, and
did all the shoot and edit work. I believe the content of my video is fairly well with the category
of video art. The most dissatisfied of my my video is the quality of it. It is not very clear and
showed my poor grasping of basic camera knowledge. Actually, when I borrowed the camera
(Nikon D90) from the department, they told me that it is not good for shooting videos. Those better
cameras( the Cannons) were all borrowed by other students. So when I was shooting the video and
found the images is somewhat blurred. But I thoughtthat was the best that... Show more content on

But I decided to erase the audio at last not only because the camera captured the ambience(my
sounds). In fact, I tried to keep the environment as silent as possible. But when I was checking
the videos, I heard very big noises which was produced by the camera itself( the camera is old
and not in very good condition). I could not eliminate those noises no matter what I tried.
Compared to contain those noises in my video, I believe it is better to eliminate the audio, which
also create a atmosphere of calm and make the audience to appreciate the movement more

The Death Of Ivan Ilych By Leo Tolstoy
In The Death of Ivan Ilych by Leo Tolstoy, he shows how the majority of society is selfish.
Tolstoy suggests how even though there is so much selfishness in society, there are some
exceptional people who do not follow social conventions and are the prime example of how
people in a society should be. This paper will argue that being selfless is important in society and
that people should deviate from individualistic behavior and concentrate more on the collective
behavior. Through this careful examination it will be revealed that although a person should think
about how to advance themselves in the social hierarchy, it cannot be their only goal and people
need to combine it with it a more humanistic goal as well. According to Tolstoy, society... Show

He introduces the character as Gerasim, the butler s assistant. He is content with the little that
that he has. He is the only one in the story who believes that death will come to everyone. Other
people in society think that death only comes to other people and will not come to them. This is
exemplified by Peter, who feels that this had happened to Ivan Ilych and not to him, and that it
should not and could not happen to him... began to ask with interest about the details of Ivan
Ilych s death, as though death was an accident natural to Ivan Ilych but certainly not to himself
(Tolstoy 9). Through the thought process of Peter, Tolstoy shows how society views death.
Gerasim is also the only one in the story who shows empathy towards Ivan Ilych. He cares about
other people. He doesn t feel that helping Ivan is a burden, but more as a way of soothing a
dying man. As Ivan observed, He saw that no one felt for him, because no one even wished to
grasp his position. Only Gerasim recognized it and pitied him. And so Ivan Ilych felt at ease only
with him. He felt comforted when Gerasim supported his legs (sometimes all night long) Tolstoy(
42). This illustrates how Gerasim didn t mind his own inconvenience for the comfort of his
master. Tolstoy portrays how most people in society have a lot more financial and social status,
but they are missing the essential meaning of life. However, even though Gerasim lacks these
advantages that other people have, he is the one who is the happiest. This is because he has all the
components; selflessness, love for everyone, and a strong sense of empathy which makes up a

Childhood Psychological Analysis
Currently, I am 20 years old and married with the frequent thought on having my own children in
very near future. However, my parents are reminders of a couple without trust and a healthy
relationship who had children they couldn t care for. The result of their relationship, the endless
amount of emotional traumatizing and life alternating mistakes with their children and each other
that still have an effect for years to come. I ll probably raise the children isolation from the
extended familyfor the majority of their early years for sake of their malleable minds not being
marred by my brutal father s side or the drug addicts offspring that is my mom s side of my family.

Although, I didn t have the vocabulary to express all my feelings and thoughts, I began
recognizing a wrongness between my parents at 4 years old. Growing up with fighting parents, I
adopting the idea of personal responsibly because I decided at a very early age that it was my
parents own faults they won t happy. Reexamining the 4 years old s termed wrongness between my
parents in my teenage years, I assumed my parents couldn t navigate their own feels or they didn t
have the capacity to react positively to the stress within their relationship. Additional evidence, the
strain relationships they also had with their own broken extended families at the time showed they
both lacked the skills of cultivating and sustaining most close long term relationships. However, my
parents both did have longevity in their friendships. My parents broke up when I was six, my mother
moved my younger siblings and I constantly after the separation. I attribute my easy acceptance
of change to the fact that change is the opportunity for something better, as a child I didn t have
the option of changing my environment from the places I ve lived in with my mother and
various male strangers besides running away for a short time before hunger or my siblings
brought me back. The chaotic lifestyle from 6 years old until I was 18 years old, encourages me
as an adult to love myself before anyone else. My mother spent years putting herself down, I would
never want my children to watch me suffering in my own unhappiness while struggle to care for
them then eventually breaking down at times leaving them with no

Introduction
An enzyme
Hypothesis
The null hypothesis will be that the test tubes with an increase in temperature, pH values, enzyme
concentrations, and substrate concentration will have a very small color change or no color change
at all. The alternate hypothesis is that the test tubes containing an increase in temperature, pH
values, enzyme concentrations, and substrate concentration will all have an intense color change;
the more the change, the more intense the color change will be.
Material and Methods
The use of multiple test tubes and Parafilm was used for each experiment. Catechol, potato juice,
pH 7 phosphate buffer, and stock potato extract 1:1 will be used to conduct the following
experiments: temperature effect on enzyme activity, the effect of pH on enzyme action, the effect
of enzyme concentration, and the effect of substrate concentration on enzyme activity. For the
temperature effect on enzyme activity, three test tube were filled with three ml of pH 7
phosphate buffer and each test tube was labels 1.5 degrees Celsius, 20 В°C, and 60 В°C. The first
test tube was placed in an ice water bath, the second test tube was left at room temperature, and the
third test tube was placed in approximately 60В°C of warm water. After filling the test tubes with

Theory of Multiple Intelligences and Personal Experience
personal names I fleetingly recall being in fourth grade and my teacher, Mr. Pox, was instructing
us how to tell time. The feeling of trying to overcome this hurdle to recognize the big hand is for
the minutes and the little hand correlates with the hours, was such a great feat for a fourth grader.
At the time, that felt like such an accomplishment yet there would be many more and greater to
come. According to Howard Gardner s theory of multiple intelligencesin his essay A Rounded
Version: Theory of Multiple Intelligences, he contends that we have more intelligence than what a
test could prove because we all each excel in different areas of life (Gardner and... Show more

Listening to the other ideas instead of just my own, taught me to compromise. This was a way
to work well with people and get things done quickly to get the best grade I wanted. In school I
have seen students who are timid than most and feel awkward working with people. They work
better by viewing things alone allowing them to excel in individual assignments. They display an
Intrapersonal Intelligence guiding them to be self sufficient. They have a greater sense of their
self enabling them to utilize that knowledge. Learning your own self could be said to help you
work with others but it helps to look from your own feeling and notice others around you. People
get farther working with others than always working alone.
Linguistic intelligence is not only the ability to make a proper sentence with error free grammar,
but it includes the expertise to formulate words that convey a clear and thoughtful message.
Learning a language is a highly sought linguistic intelligence and some might even say very
necessary. I have, not mastered yet, learned three languages; Swahili, English and Spanish are in
order of what I have been taught first in my life. Mastering these three languages is a long
journey far from over. Sometimes in my Spanish class, I feel that I will never learn all of the
language in time or be secure when I speak it. I remind myself, though, that there are many words
in English that I still have not encountered yet in my life and

furniture. After 13 years, he retired and sold his business to his son Phil Filmore who was an
aggressive manager, strategist and modernized in introducing new product designs and new

These suppliers have slightly more bargaining power because of the differentiation between their
work. However the need for these suppliers can be eliminated if furniture manufacturers produce
every piece of their products themselves. A furniture manufacturer will only outsource production
of parts if it proves to be cost effective for their company. Since the price of materials is consistent
market and the outsourcing of production is unnecessary, suppliers have low bargaining power in
the furniture manufacturing industry.
Power of Substitutes VERY LOW
As previously stated the buyers in the furniture manufacturing industry are furniture retailers.
Therefore they will require furniture to continue business. There are no substitutes that provide the
same use as furniture. In relation to the furniture industry as a whole, there are still very little
substitutes to furniture aside from a higher use of closet space or unorthodox measures by
consumers. An example of this would be one s choice to live without furniture, which in most cases
is very unlikely. Furniture has become a household necessity and consumers have little or no desire
to change their lifestyles by eliminating that need. Therefore the threat of substitutes to the furniture
manufacturing industry is very low to the point where it is almost non existent.

George Randolph Hearst And Joseph Pulitzer
In the 1890s, capitalism controlled much of the industry in New York City. William Randolph
Hearst and Joseph Pulitzer were two executives that in their pursuit to gain money oppress the
child work force, the Newsies who are runaways or orphan boys selling newspapers for an income.
When the newspaper executives raise the price of papers they are testing the strength of capitalism
in America to see if even the weakest will adhere to this environment. The economic decision to
raise the price of papers fails when the Newsiesstrike with the support of the masses of New York
until there is no way to for the paper to thrive unless it drops back to price. The 1992 movie
Newsies critiques the laissez faire capitalism that demanding executives tried to use, but it endorses
a populist ideology that glorifies organization, self defense, and noncompliance with powerful
executives.
The character arc of the main character Jack Kelly shows how populist leadership can arise even
under Pulitzers firm oppression. Jack Kelly in the beginning of the story is proud and arrogant
about his ability to lead the Newsies. He is showing his power in the beginning by fighting two
of the boys working for Pulitzer. When the Newsies decide to strike, he is chosen as the leader
and is forced by the masses to bring their demands before Pulitzer. Jack know the social structure
of the world that he lives in and is fearful to confront such a powerful man. This hinders the pride
of Jack and shows weakness in

Dr. Malcolm Sayer s The Film Awakenings
Awakened to the Psychological Concepts Portrayed in Film
Jake E. Bukuts
Fort Mill High School
Awakened to the Psychological Concepts Portrayed in Film The film Awakenings is an emotional
film that tells the story of a doctor, named Dr. Malcolm Sayer played by Robin Williams, who
starts work at a chronic hospital in the Bronx during the late 1960 s. As he examines patients at
the hospital though he comes to observe a good many of them are experiencing the same
symptoms of a being in a catatonic and unresponsive state yet still having the ability to react to
certain stimuli. One patient in particular, named Leonard Lowe played by Robert De Niro,
catches Sayer s attention and he decides to administer a new drug known as L Dopa in hopes of
saving him from his coma like state. The drugs works and soon all of the once statuesque patients
are reanimated, but only for a short time, and sadly soon Leonard and the rest of his fellow patients
regress to their original catatonic state. However, although this films proves to be deeply emotional
with an extremely touching story many concepts that relate to psychology are also present within it
as well. Some concepts present within the film Awakenings are that of the principle of ethics, the
frustration aggression theory, conformity, and also the idea of empathy altruism.
Psychological Concepts

the program for teachers with 0 3 years experience. Related studies reviewed by the Council
reinforced the need for a structured teacher support. There was the consensus that the beginning
teacher should not develop a curve of disenchantment especially in their first three years of
teaching. In an interview of 20 teachers in a small public high school in Cavite City, the researcher
found out that none of them have a formal induction when they first started to work in the school.
They all found out their rights, responsibilities, expected tasks, the history of the organization and
many more by hearsays or stories of their fellow employees which sometimes brought them
confusion, anxiety stress, and worst burn out. The situation might have caused teachers to think of
quitting their jobs and find other careers somewhere else. The major thrust of this study was to
identify the relationship of the induction program to the performance and morale of teachers in
DepEd, Cavite City. The findings of this study will

Escapism In The Great Gatsby
Firstly books are in fact great. They contain whole worlds bound within the pages that are
unleashed when the cover is flipped open and the words start to be read. Books do far more than
entertain. They educate and practice the process of escapism with the reader. Encyclopedias and
self help guides share information, and novels take you away to Narnia and Hogwarts and the
Shire again and again. Greatness leads to the next virtue of books: compassion. How great can a
book be if it is not compassionate? Books are good at understanding the readers because they are
written by people themselves that experience human emotions and unravel them to be less complex
than they seem. The empathy between the author and the author s audience allows the experiences
within the book to be shared as a memory for all. Memoirs document the horrors experiences at the
Holocaustto prove that it did happen and it was an atrocity. Reading a Holocaust memoir does not
equivocate the reader to Holocaust survivor, but it does help them understand just how awful it was.

Roaring Twenties Era for the rich, and for others it was a preview to the Great Depression as

  • 2. The Past And Present Defining Characteristics Of The Sami... Evidence suggests human presense in parts of Norway, Sweden, Finland, and even Russia over 9,000 years ago (Joessefson, 142). However, it would not be until thousands of years later that a highly unique and successful tribe would form, known as the Sami. While many Sami have assimilated into modern European culture, central traits still exists within this indigiouns group native to the Sapmi region. Some Sami still practice modes of subsistence, systems of marriage, kinship, social organization, and religion common to their ancestors. However, today, the Sami are faced with social issues distinct from those of their predesesors, such as pressures to conform to modern society, economic struggles, and in some cases, loss of community. It is important to evaluate both the past and present defining characteristics of the Sami peoples to fully understand their culture. One of the most well known characterisitics of the Sami is their skill in reindeer pastoralism. Though, pastoralism was not their initial mode of substiance, instead, the Sami began as a hunter gatherer society. As northern Europe is subject to extreme and lengthy winters, the Sami caught and harvested what they could. Beaver, reindeer, and fish were among the most commonly hunted by the Sami (Bergman, other 27). Artic rose, a plant rich with vitamins, was a popular edible plant that was also central to the Sami diet (Loeffler, 70). As well, geographical positioning distinguished the diets of some Sami bands ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 4. Analysis Of Kanye West s Song All Falls Down The song I have chosen to talk about is one of my favorite songs ever and it s called All Falls Down by Kanye West. The College Dropout came out in 2004 and was Kanye Wests debut album as a music artist. This song was his third single off the album. As shown from Barbaric Poetries blog, Tia states that Kanye s message in this song is that, when you live life to impress others and cover up your insecurities, you will never be satisfied, thus all will seem to fall down (http://barbaricpoetries. blogspot.com/2012/04/and it all falls down.html). The catchy melody given in the beginning of the song is what caught everyone s ears when it first came out. Kanye produced this song in 2004 where he used very simple instruments to attract his fans.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Sophomore, three yurrs, ain t picked a carurr (http://www.clashmusic.com/features/just one song all falls down). Right here he addresses a female that is unfortunate about her life. She s basically existing off what her parents wants for her and not for herself. Even if you wanted to become successful in life there has to be consequences you have to take in order to become prosperous. In the life of a college student you find that the student is the one who has to take penalties in order to get that degree. Making time for yourself to succeed is mandatory for you to keep in your mind at all times. Since Kanye named his album The College Dropout , he frequently inquiries the significance of going to college. The title of his debut album actually tells us a story of everything that he was going through at the time. Several individuals go to college because it s a safe way to partake if you don t have anything planned after you have graduated from high school. Great parents will tell their children to go to college because it would be a backup plan if they didn t do anything else with their career. If plan A doesn t work, you always have plan B to back you up right after. A lot of people will most likely assume they ll get a very nice profession after college but it usually doesn t end up that way. People just end up working with jobs that have nothing to do with their careers because it would be so hard to find one with their studies and some people just don t have a job right after. Nothing is promised after you finished college unless you work your butt off. As he states in his lyrics That major that she majored in don t make no money, but she won t drop out, her parents will look at her funny. • 5. Macroeconomics Essay on Aggregate Demand and Aggregate Supply A. Fracking technology matures and significantly reduces the costs of producing oil and natural gas. First of all, the fact that the overall costs of producing oil and natural gas will be reduced, then companies will be able to produce more for the same costs or increase their profit margins. At higher aggregate supply, the price is likely to decrease, compensating the fact that the companies have reduced their costs and allowing them to produce at the same level for similar prices. Aggregate demand will also increase, mainly because the products and services that are associated with oil and natural gas will become more affordable. As aggregate demand increases, the price will also likely increase in the short term, at least until aggregate supply and demand regulate themselves at a new level. Ideally, however, new technologies will make oil and natural gas more affordable, which would lower the overall price of products and services, since costs, including transportation costs, are lower. B. The European Union disbands and individual European countries enact large tariffs on the importation of American goods. There are several elements to be discussed about this event. First, the European Union is a customs union, in the sense that all the member countries enact the same tariff on a particular import of goods from the United States. This means that imports from the US of a particular good has a tariff that ranges from 0 % to higher levels. Disbanding means mainly ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. American Hurricane A strong hurricane normally has three factors that make it so destructive, Death, Destruction and the area impacted (the great new england hurricane). The great hurricane of 1938 certainly had three factors, but what factors made the hurricane s impact so powerful, and what was the impact like The first of three hurricanes that had a large effect on the New England area is considered a strong hurricane for three particular reasons. The conditions that made it so powerful, the absurd amount of human error in a weather system almost riddled with ignorance and the blunt and forceful impact it had on an unexpecting region. To explain the first condition that made the storma hurricane, one must go to the Cape Verde Islands (youtube). The islands sit near a one hundred and twenty foot deep pool of warm water(youtube). Warm water, being a necessity when creating a hurricane makes it obvious why this hurricane along with so many others, are formed here(youtube). Sexual Violence Against Black Women According to the 2017 National Intimate Partner and Sexual Violence survey published by the CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention), approximately 35.5% of Black women experience some type of sexual violence in their lifetime (CDC, 2017). To understand the underlying causes of this phenomenon, both the sexuality and general experience of Black women need to be understood in context. It is also important to maintain an intersectional lens, as both identities of Black and woman are important in understanding the black female experience and the violencethat accompanies it (Crenshaw, Delgado, Matsuda, Lawrence, 2018). In a genre that consistently objectifies Black female bodies, Minaj attempts to assert agency in her own sexual representation, an example of which is on the left in figure 1 below. Cardi B is a more recent rapper, who broke out in 2017 with her hit single Bodak Yellow. The song broke records as it stayed on the Hot 100 list for three consecutive weeks, making her the only female rapper to do so since 1998. These highly structured emotional manipulations are frequently used by ISIS in order to indoctrinate the easily influenced. These jihadists have developed a guide for their recruiters, describing step by step how to identify potential candidates for brainwashing as well as how to get them to subscribe to radical political and religious ideals (Warius). The guide includes a clear, step by step process that even the most inexperienced jihadi could follow. • 12. Overcoming Fear In Harper Lee s To Kill A Mockingbird It s the 1930s and racism, classism, sexism is prominent and the Great Depression is happening. In 1930, Harper Lee was 4 years of age. 1930, is the time period that her book, To Kill a Mockingbird, takes place. Due to growing up in the 1930s, Harper Lee has experienced all of the issues above, which provided her with material for themes and purposes in her book. Harper Lee uses imagery, metaphors, and characterization to show the theme of overcoming fear. First, Harper Lee uses imagery to show the importance of overcoming the fear of a person. For example, on page 319 320 as Scout links arms with Boo to escort him home she says to herself, He had to stoop a little to accommodate me, but if Miss Stephanie Crawford was watching from her upstairs window, she would see Arthur Radley escorting me down the sidewalk, as any gentleman would do. With this quote, Harper Lee is communicating to the reader through the imagery of Boo, who is walking with her like a gentleman, that Scout no longer cares about what Miss Stephanie Crawford says about Boo because Harper Lee has created the mindset that Scout is willfully hoping Miss Stephanie Crawford is peeping through her window and sees that Boo is being a gentleman not a monster. Harper Lee is communicating to the reader that people do have opinions and make assumptions about people. And that once someone gets to know the person that is made out to be a villain, that those assumptions can sometimes be incorrect just like Miss ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 13. Analysis Of Concord, By Jakob Andreae And Martin Chemnitz The book of Concord, or Concordia , lays out the beliefs and theology of the Lutheran Church. It was officially put together as of 1580, or late 16th century in order to put a stop to religious controversy after the death of Martin Luther in 1546. This book was written by a group of theologians led by Jakob Andreae and Martin Chemnitz. This book was intended to grasp all of the prefaced doctrines and beliefs and to put together the Lutheran Church as we know it today. It opens with a preface, and then goes into three past creeds that establish what a Christian is, then followed by the Ausburg Confession, Which is the literal written out beliefs of The Lutheran Church. Inside of the Ausburg confession, there are 28 articles, including a preface and a conclusion, though only the first 21 are actual chief articles of faith, the other 7 speak of abuses of power. Article 1 is about how the Lutheran church sees God as a whole, believing in the Triune God and reject other interpretations regarding the nature of God. Article 2 speaks of sin, how since the fall of Adam, all men (and women) are born into sin without the fear of God, without trust in God and with strong desires to please oneself, and that even now we are dead to sin, unless saved through being born again through babtism and the Holy Ghost. Article 3 speaks on their beliefs in Jesus, or the Son of God. They believe that the Word did assume human nature in the womb of Mother Mary, but also kept his divine holiness, ... • 14. Methods Of Dividing The Networks Into Small Controllable... 3.1 Clustering approach: The approach of dividing the networks into small controllable units is called as clustering. The clustering technique advances the scalability of network through ease of implementation and results energy efficient routing within the sensor networks. The clustering approach has some other advantages also like conserving communication bandwidth, avoiding redundant message transfer, localizing energy efficient route setup etc. LEACH, HEED, DECA, etc. are the energy efficient routing protocols based on clustering technique. 3.1.1 LEACH: LEACH stands for Low energy adaptive clustering hierarchy [10]. It uses the clustering technique to distribute the energy consumption beside its network. LEACH protocol divides the network in the form of cluster heads and clusters to gather the data packet information. The cluster heads do get together with cluster nodes to collect the data information. Each round of LEACH protocol performs following steps: Advertisement phase: It is the first step. The cluster head issues a notification to the nodes to become a cluster member in its cluster within its transmission range. The nodes recognize the information based upon the Received Signal Strength [10]. Cluster set up phase: Nodes within cluster respond to their cluster heads. Schedule creation: After receiving reaction from the cluster nodes the cluster head (CH) construct TDMA scheme and send it back to cluster node member to intimate them when they have to pass ... • 16. Structural Strain Theory Sociology can be looked at and studied in many different ways. Sociology is usually split into many different places so that sociologists can look at one individual group instead of everyone together. This is a society. A society is an organised group of people. Sociologists study these groups to get more accurate information. One thing that sociologists look at when they look at these societies is the deviance of the group. Deviance is anything that goes against social norms of a specific place. Deviance varies depending on time and location of the specific group the sociologists are studying. A norm is a set of expected behaviors for a given role and social status. Deviance is a magnificent part of sociology. Deviance is any behavior,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Strain Theory asserts that people commit deviant acts when the strain of society becomes too much for the person to handle. Often their deviance is due to their feelings of anomie, meaningless, due to not understanding how the social norms affect them. This is usually because the norms are are confusing or weak. There is a social consensus in society about socially approved achievements and goals. This consensus tells what one should strive for in order to achieve according to society. Society places these certain goals that all people of that society try to pursue. These people either have to work in the structure that society has made or if the pressure is too much they will turn to deviant acts in an attempt to achieve those goals. When there is a gap between the person s current standing in society and the overall goal society has created based on The Strain Theory people will act upon this gap in five different ways: Conformity, innovation, ritualism, retreatism, and rebellion. Conformity is the acceptance of the cultural goals and means of attaining those goals. This is the way a normal person would go about to achieve the goals set by society. Innovation is the acceptance of the goals of a culture but the rejection of the traditional and legitimate means of attaining those goals, e.g, a drug dealer accepts the goals he has to accomplish but society does not necessarily agree with those goals. This is how one completes a goal set by society but does not necessarily go the normal way to do it. Ritualism is the rejection of cultural goals but the routinized acceptance of the way of achieving those goals. For example, A man who has a wife and family is a hard worker and makes an average income. He believes that money is not everything and is more happy with his family life. Neil Armstrong was the first man on the moon and he was accompanied by Buzz Aldrin. Apollo 11 launched on July 16th, 1969 and landed on the moon on July 20th, 1969. The objective of the space landing was a national goal set by John F. Kennedy. Armstrong and Aldrin spent 21 hours on the moonwith seven hours of sleep. But is this all true, or is it all a lie? Body of Research: On July 20th, 1969 Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin set foot on the moon. Or did they? Actually, yes, NASA did, but that hasn t stopped conspiracy theories from surfacing. Conspiracy theorists have made people believe that humans never set foot on the lunar surface, and that the entire effort was massively staged. In many of pictures of the landing, the American flag that Neil Armstrong put up has ripples. But how is this possible, once you put it on surface there is no wind? Well scientists have said that the flag s edges are pulled taut. They said when you do this effect, which was done purposely, you put a stiff wire into the fabric. They did this because instead of letting the flag hang flat, the wire creates ripples. Another conspiracy is that they re multiple shadows in the moon photos prove there was more than one source of light. Again scientist debunked this theory too. The sixties in America saw a substantial cultural and social change through activism against the Vietnam war, women s right and against the segregation of the African American communities. Art became a prominent method of activism to advocate the civil rights movement. It was a way to express self identity as well as the struggle that people went through and by means of visual imagery a way to show political ideals and forms of resistance. With the help of other black artists, Bearden sought to reflect how they could portray their connection to the civil right movement through their arts as a racial group minority. Ralph Ellison (1977), mentions the anachronism of the American social experience of minority artists which could then be used to understand the motivation behind the art of Bearden. This anachronism refers to; The imbalance in American society which leads to a distorted perception of social reality, to a stubborn blindness to the creative possibilities of cultural diversity, to the prevalence of negative myth, racial stereotypes and dangerous illusion about art, humanities and society. While many other countries label genetically modified organisms because they think that people should have a choice whether or not they want to consume them America believes that their people should not have to know therefore taking the people s choice away and making the decision for them. There have been studies that have shown that genetically modified organisms have opened doors to new possibilities, but at the same time have become a danger to humans and the environment. Although some may think that genetic engineering is progress for humanity others think America should not produce and sell genetically modified organisms because it is unsafe for human consumption, and it is harmful to the environment. Genetically modified organisms are living organisms that have been artificially manipulated in a laboratory through genetic engineering. This relatively new science creates unstable combinations of plant, animal, bacteria and viral genes that do not occur in nature or through traditional crossbreeding methods. Taking a Look at Marfan Syndrome Marfan Syndrome, which is named after Antoine Marfan who first described the disorder in 1896, is a genetic disorder that affects the connective tissues found throughout the body. This syndrome can affect many different parts of the body, but the most commonly affected are the heart, blood vessels, bones, joints, respiratory system, nervous system, and eyes. Thankfully, a person s intelligence is never affected. Marfan syndromeaffects people from all races and ethnic backgrounds, and this often makes it hard to detect. It is a pretty rare genetic disorder affecting only about 1 in every 5,000 people. This syndrome is from a mutation of a gene on chromosome 15 and this causes problems in the production of fibrillin 1 which is a protein that is an important part of connective tissue. The name for the gene is FBN1. Basically, it is the glue that helps to support the tissues in the human body. A child born to a parent with this syndrome has a 50% of having it. However, in the remaining 25%, neither parent has the disease which gives them a 1 in 10,000 chance of having a child with this disorder. When a child of two unaffected parents is born with it then the genetic mutation occurs in either the egg or sperm cell at the time of conception. The defect of this glue leads to phenotypes such as a thin, lanky build, flexible joints, sunken eyes, a chest that is sunken in or bulges out, curvature of the spine to one side (scoliosis), and flat feet. Cyber Bullying And Its Effects On Children Bullying, according to Oxford Dictionary, is the use of superior strength or influence to intimidate, typically to force someone to do what one wants. Growing up, the only bullying that I have witnessed is on the television. The majority of people perceive a bully as a tough boy threatening another for his lunch money, but times have changed in unison with technology evolving. One of the overwhelmingly popular uses of the internet is to contact friends and relatives by posting pictures and sending comments on social media websites. For example, according to Jay Baer, a social media researcher, 56% of Americans have a profile on a social networking site . The outcomes of these sites when used appropriately are enjoyable, but for children ages ten to eighteen, cyber bullying is a frequent activity through the sites. Social media websites need filters to decrease cyber bullying since young users have no remote understanding of the unsafe environment and of the depth the effects cyber bullying has on their victims, as well as themselves. Social media websites do not provide a safe and friendly environment for all age ranges. Consequently, 81% of teens use some kind of social media making it a popular, yet cowardly source for bullying. Since smart phones and computers surround each one of us, teens hide behind them. Cheever uses the man s journey home as a metaphor for the journey of alcohol. Cheever shows the parallels between the man s journey home and the journey alcohol takes a person in many ways. The main two are the way he feels after each new pool, and the time that lapses on his journey. The first way Cheever uses to show the parallels, is the way the main character feels after each pool. The man, in the beginning, is strong and energetic, feels good about his life, and is looked up to by his friends. The man thinks of himself as a legendary figure (Cheever, Pg1). As if there was nothing he could not do. As his journey progresses he changes. Physically, he gets weaker, and is unable to pull himself out of the pool without the use of the pool ladder and is unwilling to dive into the pool, as before. He goes from being warm to being chilled to the bone. The man would also start feeling bad if he did not drink. Some lightly armored forms were not unlike crocodiles in appearance, except for their long, hook nosed snouts, but some armored types of phytosaurs may have looked almost like arthropods. Much of Central Texas probably contains bones of Cretaceous vertebrates, but the land is so heavily vegetated that discoveries are few. However, remains of dinosaurs, plesiosaurs, and even primitive mammals have been found and are preserved at the University of Texas and Southern Methodist University. In figure 1 (Bartley), shown above, ninety eight percent of test subjects agree that Shape A is Kiki while Shape B is Bouba. From studies of sound symbolism, one can infer that before knowing anything about a person or subject, most people already have predetermined feelings about the person or subject. Due to sound symbolism, among other factors, a person s name could potentially affect his or her personality. This is because outside perceptions of one can influence one s self perception (Deluzain). In his book about psychology, Alter mentions every name is associated with demographic baggage (Drunk Tank Pink 9). Different names can indicate a person s age or ethnicity; coupled with the idea that children tend to follow expectations set for them (Bryner), this provides a reason why names can affect a person s personality. When children are met repetitively by a certain expectation, they start to believe what is said about them, that others perception of them is correct, and follow this expectation. Adults too, when in the outside world and met with different biases due to their names, may act the ways others believe them to act, and not how they might naturally act. Names also have different connotations, influencing a person to act a certain way. • 34. The Quatrain Factory By Rita Dove The Great Migration was a tough time in American history, when millions of African Americans migrated north in search of job opportunities. The Zeppelin Factory, is an epic poem written by Rita Dove about her hard working grandfather named Thomas during this period in history. The major themes portrayed throughout this poem are the hardships faced by her grandfather during these difficult times and struggling to cope with death. These themes are portrayed through Dove s application of poetic form and structure, diction, and figurative language. The poetic form and structure of Dove s poem is important in portraying Dove s theme of coping with death. The poem is made up of three octets, a couplet, and a quatrain. Having the couplet right after three octets abruptly disrupts the flow of the poem, similarly to how an individual s life can feel as though it has stopped after a death has occurred. However, the quatrain shows that even after that abrupt disruption, life will still go on. In addition, the lineation helps emphasize the concept of death to the reader. For example, when describing the launch of The Akron, Dove ends several of her lines with words that are associated with life and death situations such as, adrenalin, fell, clawing, and dropped. Like the member of a revolution, her life was full of determination, up and downhill struggles. Geological Structures Within The Earth Geology Geological structures within the earth can determine a multitude of variables when determining such things as formations, permeability, porosity, lithology, mineralogy, saturation and normal/abnormal/subnormal pressure which in turn can provide the necessary information for reservoir pay zones. The foundation for hydrocarbons is based off of the organic theory which states that the hydrocarbons formed through an anaerobic environment (lacking oxygen) over time with high pressures and relatively low temperatures (300В°F 392В°F) with carbon based materials such as algae. The basis for algae is the fact that the ocean contained around 95% of plankton in the ocean and reservoirs for hydrocarbons are found in sediments made up of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Petroleum engineers deal only with sedimentary basin rocks in oil and gas drilling, and these sedimentary rocks are types of rock that are formed by the deposition of material at the Earth s surface and within bodies of water. Permeability in these rock is a measure of the ease with which fluid flows through a porous rock, and is a function of the degree of interconnection between the pores. Permeability can be separated into three parts: absolute, effective, and relative. Absolute is when pore spaces are 100% saturated with the same fluid, effective is when the permeability of a flowing phase that does not saturate 100% of the rock, and relative which is the ratio of effective permeability to absolute permeability of the same rock. When permeability is low the degree at which fluids can flow through the rock is low and therefore not a good means of producing hydrocarbons. Even if a reservoir has a high saturation, a low permeable rock will have no means of obtaining the porous medium. However this is not the only cause with saturations of rock. The irreducible water saturation also plays a part in the production of hydrocarbons. This is when water is held against the rock grains by surface tension and cannot be produced which is determined by grain structure, i.e. size and mixture. Tolstoy suggests how even though there is so much selfishness in society, there are some exceptional people who do not follow social conventions and are the prime example of how people in a society should be. This paper will argue that being selfless is important in society and that people should deviate from individualistic behavior and concentrate more on the collective behavior. Through this careful examination it will be revealed that although a person should think about how to advance themselves in the social hierarchy, it cannot be their only goal and people need to combine it with it a more humanistic goal as well. This is exemplified by Peter, who feels that this had happened to Ivan Ilych and not to him, and that it should not and could not happen to him... began to ask with interest about the details of Ivan Ilych s death, as though death was an accident natural to Ivan Ilych but certainly not to himself (Tolstoy 9). Through the thought process of Peter, Tolstoy shows how society views death. Gerasim is also the only one in the story who shows empathy towards Ivan Ilych. He cares about other people. He doesn t feel that helping Ivan is a burden, but more as a way of soothing a dying man. As Ivan observed, He saw that no one felt for him, because no one even wished to grasp his position. Only Gerasim recognized it and pitied him. And so Ivan Ilych felt at ease only with him. He felt comforted when Gerasim supported his legs (sometimes all night long) Tolstoy( 42). This illustrates how Gerasim didn t mind his own inconvenience for the comfort of his master. Tolstoy portrays how most people in society have a lot more financial and social status, but they are missing the essential meaning of life.
