Historians call these REVOLUTIONS. (Slide) These are events, or a series of events, that allow people to break off whole-scale from the status quo. There are revolutions that feature arms and violence. The French Revolution, Russia's Red Revolt, Mao Tse-Tung's Long March & Cultural Revolution, were all violent convulsions that changed the world. But there are other kinds of revolutions. (Slide) The Neolithic Period leap from nomadic lifestyle to settled agricultural communities was the first great revolution – the agricultural revolution. The flowering of monotheism -- the belief in one god -- was also a revolution. The EDSA Revolution became a global byword; the first time a people had thrown a tyrant overnight through peaceful means. Then there was Industrial revolution and lately, (Slide)
the Digital revolution that has gripped the world in the last two decades, a revolution that is still evolving in such a frenetic pace that we can barely keep up with its effects.This then is the Big Story, the Theme of Mankind.
Never have the youth been so well-positioned to push for change. Before, the youth had to force their way through society’s traditional gatekeepers, whether in the media or politics. Most of these gatekeepers were older, from the establishment, and of a worldview that generally patronized youth. Now, youth rule the communications arena, thanks to social media. Traditional media has embraced various digital platforms where the most vibrant conversations are taking place. Even politicians have realized they cannot ignore social media – because that is where the youth congregate…. ADD TEXT
But all great themes have sub-themes, the branches that make a tree. Each individual life is a sub-theme, whether it shows embrace of or resistance to change. Each life, yours and mine, matter. (SLIDE)
