Annex I (Machinery Space)
The oily mixture is processed through an oil filtering
equipment meeting the requirements of regulation
14.7 (Oil filtering equipment) of Annex 1; (oil content
of the effluent does not exceed 15 ppm, alarm
arrangement and automatic 15 ppm stopping device
are in place)
SPECIAL AREA ANNEX I
Discharges in special areas
For this ships of 400GT and above (Other than oil
tankers), any discharge of oil or oily mixture out at
sea is forbidden, except when all the following
requirements are fulfilled:

1 the ship is proceeding en route;
2. Only treated oil-water mixture which is
processed through an approved oil filtering
equipment fulfilling the condition stated in
regulation 14 is used to discharge the treated
effluent mixture

3 The oil PPM in the treated effluent without
dilution must not exceed 15 parts per million
4. In the special area of the Antarctic, any discharge
into the sea of oil. Oil effluent or oily mixtures from
the ship shall be prohibited.

Discharge In Special Areas From Oil Tankers
Any oily mixture or oil effluent discharge from the
cargo area of an oil tanker into the sea which comes
under special area shall be PROHIBITED
The prerequisites of this regulation shall not affect
the discharge of clean or segregated ballast tank.
In respect of the special area of Antarctica, any
discharge into the sea of oily or mixtures from any
ships shall be prohibited.

Annex II Special Area
MARPOL annex II has one special area the Antarctic
Ocean. The adoption of special mandatory methods
for the prevention of sea pollution is required.

The discharge into the sea of residues
of substances assigned to category X,
Y or Z.

ballast water, tank washings or other mixtures
containing such substances shall be
prohibited unless such discharges are made
in full compliance with the applicable
operational requirements contained in this
Annex.

EMPTY PACKAGING
which has been used previously for the
carriage of harmful substances are also
treated as harmful substances
 When a substance, material or article
possesses properties that meet the
criteria of a marine pollutant but is not
identified in this Code, such
substance, material or article shall be
transported as a marine pollutant in
accordance with the Code.

Discharge Of Sewage Into The
Sea
Treated Sewage
The ship has in operation an approved
sewage treatment plant which has been
certified by the Administration to meet
the operational requirements
MEPC 62 adopted resolution
MEPC.200(62) amending MARPOL by
designating the:
Baltic Sea
as a special area under Annex IV and:
 prohibiting the discharge of sewage
effluent from passenger ships operating
in special areas,

 unless a passenger ship has in operation an
approved sewage treatment plant
implementing effluent standards and
performance tests defined in the 2012
Guidelines on implementation of effluent
standards and performance tests for sewage
treatment plants (the Guidelines).

A Special Area may
 Encompass the maritime zones of
several States, or even an entire
enclosed or semi-enclosed area.

avoid the proliferation of such

when adequate reception facilities are
provided for ships in accordance with

Fuel Oil Quality
Previously fuel oil quality was primarily a
matter between owners/managers (and
charterers) & suppliers. With the entry
into force of Annex VI, Fuel Oil Quality
became a statutory matter.

Annex I (Machinery Space) The oily mixture is processed through an oil filtering equipment meeting the requirements of regulation 14.7 (Oil filtering equipment) of Annex 1; (oil content of the effluent does not exceed 15 ppm, alarm arrangement and automatic 15 ppm stopping device are in place) SPECIAL AREA ANNEX I
  • 4. Discharges in special areas For this ships of 400GT and above (Other than oil tankers), any discharge of oil or oily mixture out at sea is forbidden, except when all the following requirements are fulfilled: SPECIAL AREASPECIAL AREA ANNEX I

Discharge In Special Areas From Oil Tankers Any oily mixture or oil effluent discharge from the cargo area of an oil tanker into the sea which comes under special area shall be PROHIBITED The prerequisites of this regulation shall not affect the discharge of clean or segregated ballast tank.   • 9. SPECIAL AREA ANNEX II NLS Annex II Special Area MARPOL annex II has one special area the Antarctic Ocean. The adoption of special mandatory methods for the prevention of sea pollution is required.
  • 10. Annex II NLS Waste Disposal Discharge Provisions & Standards The discharge into the sea of residues of substances assigned to category X, Y or Z.
