Victor Toal - IBM Connections: So you have it installed – now what?LetsConnect
You have successfully installed IBM Connections in your environment – but now what comes next? Installation is one thing, but keeping your new environment up and running requires a different focus:
What are some of the regular actions you should be doing to proactively keep your environment running?
Where do you start looking when something looks wrong?
How do you fulfill some of the requests users now come to you with?
How do you correctly change configurations without breaking what you just built?
These questions and more are what we will explore during our conversation about IBM Connections.
Christoph Stoettner - Save my time using scriptsLetsConnect
This session is about basics in scripting using wsadmin, sql and linux shell. We will walk through several scripts that can help you to:
- get information’s about your Websphere Deployment
- set parameters in Websphere (like JDBC performance tuning)
- configuration of j2ee Roles through wsadmin.
- configuring AutoBackup or AutoMaintenance on DB2.Walk away with this set of handy scripts and start saving your time.
Soccnx III - Connections Administration: Understand the challenge ... and fin...LetsConnect
Speakers: Otto Foerg Felix Binsack
Connections administration is not easy. The administrator has to work from the WebSphere "wsadmin" command-line interface where he has to enter a lot of commands to accomplish one simple task. Everything is case-sensitive, temporary variables must be used to transfer values between commands. It can take some time to find out which combination of commands solves a certain problem. People responsible for Connections administration often are not familiar to do their job this way. This session gives an overview of how Connections administration works and the challenges an administrator is facing. We will show some typical examples and how they are solved using the out-of-the-box Connections administration techniques. Additionally we will introduce the "Connections Administration Toolkit (CAT)", a web-based application offering a graphical interface instead of a command-line. CAT reduces dramatically the complexity of Connections administration and the time needed to perform administrative tasks .

Spiders in the web at Saxion!
Saxion WorX is the New Way of Work (NWOW) program at Saxion. Saxion WorX stands for result-oriented, efficient and enjoyable work, regardless of place and time. It uses innovative technology to guide our students’ studies as optimally as possible. IBM Connections is used as the primary platform for collaboration and knowledge sharing, called ‘Connect’.
Secretary WorX is a co-creation secretary adoption program that focuses on secretaries and PA’s. Secretaries started their journey together to define their persona, define their work and their role as ‘spiders in the web’. As they went along they also defined all the tools, agreements and behaviour necessary to be this result-oriented, efficient worker that enjoys doing her work from any place and time – provided that secretaries become more personal effective for them selfs and the organization. This actually got them to ‘get’ Connections for what it can do for them.
Join this session if you want to learn about the program, the way we did this and how we made it fun and ‘of themselves’.
Soccnx III - A social revolution... "Can I control that?"LetsConnect
Speakers: Femke Goedhart
Company regulation versus personal individuality, how do you get your employees to be responsible partners in a Social Business and how do you weigh freedom versus restriction? The whole Social Business idea is based on the idea of each individual having an intrinsic value to the organization that isn't necessarily linked to its role within the organization alone. This begs the question of how to tap this resource without losing control and how to implement and regulate the changes that are going to be needed. How much of this can you regulate (top-down) and how much do you allow to evolve (bottom-up)? Do you set up predefined structures and communities (pushing) or allow users to instigate the community building, opening up the floor to free input and self-empowerment? This session will highlight the difficulties and choices a company will face while making the transition into a Social Business and offer ideas and guidelines on how to do so.
We should really tell the customer to turn internal e-mail off but we can’t really do that! This was one of the main points when discussing a successful implementation of IBM Connections. Giving it some thought we realized that WE can shut down internal e-mail. We can set an example. We can prove it’s possible. On Jan 1st, 2013 we banned internal e-mail. This is what happened.

Soccnx III - The impact of the national culture on the adoption and use of so...LetsConnect
Speakers: Pavel Bogolyubov
The use of social media in organizations implies a paradigm shift in user behavior from a one-way mode to more proactive, collaborative way of working with much more dynamism and openness than before. Our research shows that such shift does not necessarily fit equally well the behavioral traits exhibited in different countries, and such cultural factors as collectivism (propensity to work in well established groups), relationship with power and hierarchy, and so on, can have a significant impact on how well social systems are adopted. I would like to address the Connections community with an overview of the national culture concept and to describe our research findings to date concerning the implementation cases in a variety of countries. I would envisage that it will be of relevance to those engaged in the Connections deployment in different countries directly on in consultancy capacity.

Accessibility can bring a lot of benefits also for libraries – reduction of operation costs, raising of amount of visitors or improvement of library´s PR. Let´s show how even a small change on a web page could dramatically increase its accessibility and help to gain benefits, that accessibility brings.
