Conjunctions
Conjunctions are words which joins two
sentences and sometimes words.

Lets look at a few….
• F - For
• A - And
• N – Neither / Nor
• B – But, Because
• O – Or / Either
• Y - Yet
• S - So
F - For
She must have been very hungry, for she ate everything immediately.
For - Explains reason or purpose
A - And
• Jack and Jill went up the hill.
And - Adds one thing to another
Neither /Nor - Used to present an alternative
negative idea to an already stated negative idea.
N – Neither /Nor
• He doesn’t eat cake, nor does he eat biscuits.
• Neither, my mother nor my father went to London.
B – But, Because
• I like swimming, but I don't like dancing.
• I went to the party, because I wanted to see Peter.
But- Shows contrast ; Because – Gives reason
Or / Either - Presents an alternative or a choice
O – Or / Either
• The clerk, or the secretary has the keys to the locker.
• He did not find the key, either on or under the mat.
Yet - Introduces a contrasting idea that follows the
preceding idea logically.
Y - Yet
• I always take a book to read, yet I never seem to turn a single page.
SO - Indicates effect, result or consequence
S - SO
• We need to arrive early, so that we can get a good place.
Let’s Practice………
Find the right conjunction – joining word – to
complete each sentence
1. I remembered to bring the robot ________ didn’t remember the

2. I forgot the robot’s batteries ________ I had to borrow a pair. [so,

3. On holidays I like to play at the seashore ________ build sand castles.
