The purpose of the results chapter is to present the data and
analyses conducted to answer the research question(s) and/or
hypotheses
Follow the data analysis plan in your methodology chapter.
Present the findings for each RQ/hypothesis with a clear
statement that answers each RQ/hypothesis
Follow the specific guidelines and requirements for your school
and degree program

were conducted and note any changes from the
originally proposed procedures

• Did you have to remove or exclude any responses? How many?
• What was your final total sample size?

or sample size calculator)

Statistics
Present descriptive statistics for demographic
variables and variables of interest
• Frequencies and percentages for categorical variables
(e.g., gender, ethnicity)
• Means and standard deviations for continuous variables
(e.g., age in years, GPA)
Compare demographic characteristics of your
sample to the population (if possible)
Present reliability coefficients (Cronbach’s alpha)
for applicable measures

Assumption
Testing
List and discuss the required assumption tests
for each analysis you are conducting
• How was each assumption tested?
• What was the result of each assumption test?
• Was the assumption met or not met?
• Action taken if the assumption is not met

Research
Questions
Present the results of the analysis conducted to address
each RQ/hypothesis
• Organize this section by RQ/hypothesis
• Note any changes from the originally proposed data analysis
procedures
• Clearly identify the variables used in each analysis (independent,
dependent, predictor, criterion, covariate, etc.)
• Report appropriate statistics associated with each test (e.g., p-values,
effect sizes, confidence intervals)
• Report post-hoc testing (if applicable)
Include a clear statement that answers each RQ/hypothesis
based on the results of the analysis
• e.g., “The null hypothesis was rejected” or “The null hypothesis was not
rejected”
