What is Atheism?
 The word Atheism comes
from a, meaning without,
and theism meaning
belief in god or gods.
 Atheists are people who
believe that god or gods
(or other supernatural
beings) are man-made
constructs, myths and
legends or who believe
that these concepts are
not meaningful.
Reasons for non-belief
 People are atheist for many reasons, among them:
 They find insufficient evidence to support any religion.
 They think that religion is nonsensical.
 They once had a religion and have lost faith in it.
 They live in a non-religious culture.
 Religion doesn't interest them.
 Religion doesn't seem relevant to their lives.
 Religions seem to have done a lot of harm in the world.
 The world is such a bad place that there can't be a God.
STATIC UNIVERSE MODEL
 The prevailing thought until the early 20th century was
that the universe was of infinite size, that it had existed
since eternity, and that it would continue to exist forever.
According to this mistaken view, called the "static
universe model", the universe had neither a beginning nor
an end.
 In his book Principes Fondamentaux de Philosophie,
George Politzer stated an erroneous idea concerning the
basis of this unscientific universe model, i.e., that "the
universe was not a created object"
BING BANG THEORY
 In 1929, the American astronomer Edwin ubble
discovered that their light was shifted towards the red
end of the spectrum and, crucially, that this shift was
directly related to the distance of the stars from earth.
according to the recognized rules of physics, the
spectra of light beams moving away from the point of
observation tend towards red.
 it became definite by Hubble's observations, that the
universe expands
 if it could travel backwards in time, the universe would
prove to have originated from a single point.
 “Did the disbelievers not
observe that the heavens
and the earth were
Closed, then We opened
them?” (Al-Anbia:30)
 “ He adds to the creation
what He wills. Indeed,
Allah is powerful to do
every thing.”(al-fatir:1)

What is Polytheism?
 The belief that there are many Gods and their duties are
divided among them is called Polytheism.
 This theory is also not convincing because there has to be a
difference of opinion between the Gods.
 Suppose one god says it should rain and the other gods
disagree. If one of them agrees to the other, then he is not
God, and if no one agrees, then, who will take the final
decision?
 “Had there been gods beside Allah, in the heavens and the
earth, both of them would have fallen in disorder. So pure is
Allah, the Lord of the Throne, from what they describe.”
(Holy Quran 21:22)
Incomplete Definitions of Shirk
“…The belief that other than Allaah has
full power…”
“…to believe that an entity is a lord
besides Allaah…”
“…to believe that there is a creator
besides Allaah…”
The above definitions would mean that
the mushrikeen who the Prophet
(sallallaahu alayhi wassallam) was sent
to did not commit shirk!
“We only worship them in order that
they bring us closer to Allaah in
ranks”
{Holy Quran 39: 3}
Correct meaning of shirk
 word shirk in Arabic means taking a partner in any
capacity, regardless of the share of partners .
 shirk involves believing in a partner along with Allaah.
Such a ‘partner’ could be in lordship (ruboobiyyah) or in
worship (uloohiyyah) or in attributes (asmaa’ wa’s-sifaat
 Such as the belief that there is someone else who creates,
gives life and death, reigns or controls the affairs of the
universe along with Allaah
 belief that there are those who know the Unseen as Allaah
knows
 Such as those who make du’aa’ or pray to someone other
than Allaah, or seek his help or seek refuge with him with
regard to matters over which no one has control except
Allaah
Prohibition of Shirk
 Verily, Allah forgives not the sin of setting up partners in
worship with Him, but He forgives whom He wills sins other
than that. And whoever sets up partners in worship with
Allah, has indeed strayed far from the path." (4:116)
 If you join others in worship with Allah, then surely all your
deeds will be in vain, and you will certainly be among the
losers." (39:65)
 “Allaahumma innee a‛oodhu bika an ushrika bika wa
ana a‛lamu, wa astaghfiruka li maa laa a‛lam:
 O Allah, I seek refuge with You lest I should commit
shirk with You knowingly and I seek Your forgiveness
for what I do unknowingly.” (Musnad Ahmad)
Current form of shirk-e-khafi
Extreme Self-
confidence Reliance on
the Means
Monotheism
 There has to be one and only one who is supreme and
takes all the decisions His decisions are final.
 All creatures in the universe have to bow to Him so
that there is total harmony(agreement) in the
universe.
Some Attributes Of God
 1. THE ATTRIBUTE OF LIVING
 Allah Ta`ala is Alive and the Attribute of Life is established
for Him. It is stated in the Qur'an Majeed:“He is Alive and
The One Who sustains and maintains everything“ (2:255).
The Life of Allah Ta`ala is from always and will last for
always.
 2.THE ATTRIBUTE OF HEARING
 At any given split second He hears the chirping of birds,
the sound of the insects in the innermost part of the
mountains, the walking of an ant on the smoothest of
rocks, the sound of all the fishes swimming the oceans, etc.
etc. It is stated in the Qur'an Majeed: Indeed Allah Ta`ala
is All-Hearing, All-Knowing”(2:137)
 3.THE ATTRIBUTE OF SEEING
 He sees EVERYTHING, whether it is in the pitch
darkness or bright light, near or far, during the day or
night. it is stated: “Indeed He Sees everything.”
 4.THE ATTRIBUTE OF KNOWLEDGE
 whatever is occurring, has occurred or will still occur,
He had perfect and detailed Knowledge of it, because
HE has to fulfill the needs of every creation.
 “O my son! If there were an atom the size of a mustard
seed and it were in a rock or in the heavens or the earth,
Allah would come with it. Indeed Allah is All-Aware of
the most delicate of things.”(31:16)
 5.THE ATTRIBUTE OF INTENTION AND WILL
 Whatever Allah decides, it happens such and whatever He
does not will, does not take place. “You cannot desire
anything without The Desire of the Rabb of the universe.”
 Question: then why we are accountable of bad actions?
 Answer: when a servant enacts an action then three things
are necessary. The first is that the relevant limbs be in order
and intact. The second is that the servant uses the power
given to him by Allah Ta`ala to use his limbs and carry out
that action. Thirdly, it intention of ALLAH TALA to create
that action. Therefore the intention and will of the servant
finds further confirmation not that the intention of the
servant was initially non-existent.

  • 16. The above definitions would mean that the mushrikeen who the Prophet (sallallaahu alayhi wassallam) was sent to did not commit shirk! “We only worship them in order that they bring us closer to Allaah in ranks” {Holy Quran 39: 3}
  • 17. Correct meaning of shirk  word shirk in Arabic means taking a partner in any capacity, regardless of the share of partners .  shirk involves believing in a partner along with Allaah. Such a ‘partner’ could be in lordship (ruboobiyyah) or in worship (uloohiyyah) or in attributes (asmaa’ wa’s-sifaat  Such as the belief that there is someone else who creates, gives life and death, reigns or controls the affairs of the universe along with Allaah  belief that there are those who know the Unseen as Allaah knows  Such as those who make du’aa’ or pray to someone other than Allaah, or seek his help or seek refuge with him with regard to matters over which no one has control except Allaah
  • 18. Prohibition of Shirk  Verily, Allah forgives not the sin of setting up partners in worship with Him, but He forgives whom He wills sins other than that. And whoever sets up partners in worship with Allah, has indeed strayed far from the path." (4:116)  If you join others in worship with Allah, then surely all your deeds will be in vain, and you will certainly be among the losers." (39:65)  “Allaahumma innee a‛oodhu bika an ushrika bika wa ana a‛lamu, wa astaghfiruka li maa laa a‛lam:  O Allah, I seek refuge with You lest I should commit shirk with You knowingly and I seek Your forgiveness for what I do unknowingly.” (Musnad Ahmad)
  • 19. Current form of shirk-e-khafi Extreme Self- confidence Reliance on the Means
  • 20. Monotheism  There has to be one and only one who is supreme and takes all the decisions His decisions are final.  All creatures in the universe have to bow to Him so that there is total harmony(agreement) in the universe.
  • 21. Some Attributes Of God  1. THE ATTRIBUTE OF LIVING  Allah Ta`ala is Alive and the Attribute of Life is established for Him. It is stated in the Qur'an Majeed:“He is Alive and The One Who sustains and maintains everything“ (2:255). The Life of Allah Ta`ala is from always and will last for always.  2.THE ATTRIBUTE OF HEARING  At any given split second He hears the chirping of birds, the sound of the insects in the innermost part of the mountains, the walking of an ant on the smoothest of rocks, the sound of all the fishes swimming the oceans, etc. etc. It is stated in the Qur'an Majeed: Indeed Allah Ta`ala is All-Hearing, All-Knowing”(2:137)
  • 22.  3.THE ATTRIBUTE OF SEEING  He sees EVERYTHING, whether it is in the pitch darkness or bright light, near or far, during the day or night. it is stated: “Indeed He Sees everything.”  4.THE ATTRIBUTE OF KNOWLEDGE  whatever is occurring, has occurred or will still occur, He had perfect and detailed Knowledge of it, because HE has to fulfill the needs of every creation.  “O my son! If there were an atom the size of a mustard seed and it were in a rock or in the heavens or the earth, Allah would come with it. Indeed Allah is All-Aware of the most delicate of things.”(31:16)
  • 23.  5.THE ATTRIBUTE OF INTENTION AND WILL  Whatever Allah decides, it happens such and whatever He does not will, does not take place. “You cannot desire anything without The Desire of the Rabb of the universe.”  Question: then why we are accountable of bad actions?  Answer: when a servant enacts an action then three things are necessary. The first is that the relevant limbs be in order and intact. The second is that the servant uses the power given to him by Allah Ta`ala to use his limbs and carry out that action. Thirdly, it intention of ALLAH TALA to create that action. Therefore the intention and will of the servant finds further confirmation not that the intention of the servant was initially non-existent.
