What is Atheism?
 The term "atheism" originated
from the Greek atheos,
meaning "without god(s)“
 survey by the BBC, in 2004,
recorded atheists as
comprising 8% of the world's
population.
 Some people say that there is
no God because they cannot
see Him.
 there are so many things
which man cannot see but
believes that they exist, such
as air, pain, etc.
 However, in their heart of hearts, they believe that
there is some superbeing which creates and controls
the world.
 In the communist regime in Russia their first leader
Stalin fell very ill. The communist Govt who claimed
that there is no God, appealed to the world on radio to
make “dua” for his health. If they did not believe in
God then to whom “dua” was to be made?
STATIC UNIVERSE MODEL
 The prevailing thought until the early 20th century was
that the universe was of infinite size, that it had existed
since eternity, and that it would continue to exist forever.
According to this mistaken view, called the "static
universe model", the universe had neither a beginning nor
an end.
 In his book Principes Fondamentaux de Philosophie,
George Politzer stated an erroneous idea concerning the
basis of this unscientific universe model, i.e., that "the
universe was not a created object"
BING BANG THEORY
 In 1929, the American astronomer Edwin ubble
discovered that their light was shifted towards the red
end of the spectrum and, crucially, that this shift was
directly related to the distance of the stars from earth.
according to the recognized rules of physics, the
spectra of light beams moving away from the point of
observation tend towards red.
 it became definite by Hubble's observations, that the
universe expands
 if it could travel backwards in time, the universe would
prove to have originated from a single point.
 “Did the disbelievers not
observe that the heavens
and the earth were
Closed, then We opened
them?” (Al-Anbia:30)
 “ He adds to the creation
what He wills. Indeed,
Allah is powerful to do
every thing.”(al-fatir:1)
FOR DETAILS
What is Polytheism?
 The belief that there are many Gods and their duties are
divided among them is called Polytheism.
 This theory is also not convincing because there has to be a
difference of opinion between the Gods.
 Suppose one god says it should rain and the other gods
disagree. If one of them agrees to the other, then he is not
God, and if no one agrees, then, who will take the final
decision?
 “If there was for the heavens and the earth another deity but
Allaah the two of them would be destroyed.”
Incomplete Definitions of Shirk
“…The belief that other than Allaah has
full power…”
“…to believe that an entity is a lord
besides Allaah…”
“…to believe that there is a creator
besides Allaah…”
The above definitions would mean that
the mushrikeen who the Prophet
(sallallaahu alayhi wassallam) was sent
to did not commit shirk!
“We only worship them in order that
they bring us closer to Allaah in
ranks”
{az-Zumar (39): 3}
Correct meaning of shirk
 word shirk in Arabic means taking a partner in any capacity,
regardless of the share of partners .
 shirk involves believing in a partner along with Allaah. Such a
‘partner’ could be in lordship (ruboobiyyah) or in worship
(uloohiyyah) or in attributes (asmaa’ wa’s-sifaat
 Such as the belief that there is someone else who creates, gives
life and death, reigns or controls the affairs of the universe along
with Allaah
 belief that there are those who know the Unseen as well as
Allaah
 Such as those who make du’aa’ or pray to someone other than
Allaah, or seek his help or seek refuge with him with regard to
matters over which no one has control except Allaah
Current form of shirk
Extreme Self-
confidence Reliance on
the Means
Denial of
miracles
(Materialism)
Monotheism
 There has to be one and only one who is supreme and
takes all the decisions His decisions are final.
 All creatures in the universe have to bow to Him so
that there is total harmony(agreement) in the
universe.
 Man, from ancient past, has always been conscious of a
supreme being, the Master, the Creator of all. Even the
simplest, most primitive (ancient) and uncultured
man knows that a person cannot be a creator of his
own self, nor can create any living creature – not even a
fly.
 There has to be a creator. There has to be a supreme
being who has full control of what is happening
everywhere.
Attributes Of God
 All the Attributes of Allah Ta`ala are eternal, i.e. always
were and always will be. Allah Ta`ala was always The
Creator, even before the creation came into existence. The
reason being that the foundation of creation is the
Attribute of Power. This foundational Quality was always
existent
 There is no total and complete separation between Allah
Ta`ala’s Qualities and Being because it is not possible for
the two to exist separately. The Qualities cannot exist
without the Being because the Qualities are subordinate to
the Being. The Being cannot be without the Qualities
because the Divine Being cannot be perfect without all the
Qualities.
Some Attributes Of God
 1. THE ATTRIBUTE OF LIVING
 Allah Ta`ala is Alive and the Attribute of Life is established
for Him. It is stated in the Qur'an Majeed:“He is Alive and
The One Who sustains and maintains everything". The Life
of Allah Ta`ala is from always and will last for always.
 2.THE ATTRIBUTE OF HEARING
 At any given split second He hears the chirping of birds,
the sound of the insects in the innermost part of the
mountains, the walking of an ant on the smoothest of
rocks, the sound of all the fishes swimming the oceans, etc.
etc. It is stated in the Qur'an Majeed: Indeed Allah Ta`ala
is All-Hearing, All-Knowing”
 3.THE ATTRIBUTE OF SEEING
 He sees EVERYTHING, whether it is in the pitch
darkness or bright light, near or far, during the day or
night. it is stated: “Indeed He Sees everything.”
 4.THE ATTRIBUTE OF KNOWLEDGE
 whatever is occurring, has occurred or will still occur,
He had perfect and detailed Knowledge of it, because
HE has to fulfill the needs of every creation.
 “O my son! If there were an atom the size of a mustard
seed and it were in a rock or in the heavens or the earth,
Allah would come with it. Indeed Allah is All-Aware of
the most delicate of things.”
 5.THE ATTRIBUTE OF INTENTION AND WILL
 Whatever Allah decides, it happens such and whatever He
does not will, does not take place. “You cannot desire
anything without The Desire of the Rabb of the universe.”
 Question: then why we are accountable of bad actions?
 Answer: when a servant enacts an action then three things
are necessary. The first is that the relevant limbs be in order
and intact. The second is that the servant uses the power
given to him by Allah Ta`ala to use his limbs and carry out
that action. Thirdly, it intention of ALLAH TALA to create
that action. Therefore the intention and will of the servant
finds further confirmation not that the intention of the
servant was initially non-existent.
FOR DETAILS
Worship Of God
 The motto of Islam is summed up in the expression of
the Quran as “well being in this world and well being
in the hereafter”
 Islam discourages extremism in both extremes i.e the
ultra-spiritualist , who renounce all worldly things and
the ultra – materialist , who is engrossed. In worldly
things that they do not care about others.
 Islam can be practiced by all man kind as it is an
intermediate path .
 It develops both body and soul.
 Islam seeks to develop individuality in man.
 It also develops social collectivity . Saying prayers
collectively in the mosque , performance of Hajj where
Muslims from all parts of the world gather together are
examples of collectivity.

  • 6.  “Did the disbelievers not observe that the heavens and the earth were Closed, then We opened them?” (Al-Anbia:30)  “ He adds to the creation what He wills. Indeed, Allah is powerful to do every thing.”(al-fatir:1)

  • 9. What is Polytheism?  The belief that there are many Gods and their duties are divided among them is called Polytheism.  This theory is also not convincing because there has to be a difference of opinion between the Gods.  Suppose one god says it should rain and the other gods disagree. If one of them agrees to the other, then he is not God, and if no one agrees, then, who will take the final decision?  “If there was for the heavens and the earth another deity but Allaah the two of them would be destroyed.”
  • 10. Incomplete Definitions of Shirk “…The belief that other than Allaah has full power…” “…to believe that an entity is a lord besides Allaah…” “…to believe that there is a creator besides Allaah…”
  • 11. The above definitions would mean that the mushrikeen who the Prophet (sallallaahu alayhi wassallam) was sent to did not commit shirk! “We only worship them in order that they bring us closer to Allaah in ranks” {az-Zumar (39): 3}
  • 12. Correct meaning of shirk  word shirk in Arabic means taking a partner in any capacity, regardless of the share of partners .  shirk involves believing in a partner along with Allaah. Such a ‘partner’ could be in lordship (ruboobiyyah) or in worship (uloohiyyah) or in attributes (asmaa’ wa’s-sifaat  Such as the belief that there is someone else who creates, gives life and death, reigns or controls the affairs of the universe along with Allaah  belief that there are those who know the Unseen as well as Allaah  Such as those who make du’aa’ or pray to someone other than Allaah, or seek his help or seek refuge with him with regard to matters over which no one has control except Allaah
  • 13. Current form of shirk Extreme Self- confidence Reliance on the Means Denial of miracles (Materialism)
  • 14. Monotheism  There has to be one and only one who is supreme and takes all the decisions His decisions are final.  All creatures in the universe have to bow to Him so that there is total harmony(agreement) in the universe.
  • 15.  Man, from ancient past, has always been conscious of a supreme being, the Master, the Creator of all. Even the simplest, most primitive (ancient) and uncultured man knows that a person cannot be a creator of his own self, nor can create any living creature – not even a fly.  There has to be a creator. There has to be a supreme being who has full control of what is happening everywhere.
  • 16. Attributes Of God  All the Attributes of Allah Ta`ala are eternal, i.e. always were and always will be. Allah Ta`ala was always The Creator, even before the creation came into existence. The reason being that the foundation of creation is the Attribute of Power. This foundational Quality was always existent  There is no total and complete separation between Allah Ta`ala’s Qualities and Being because it is not possible for the two to exist separately. The Qualities cannot exist without the Being because the Qualities are subordinate to the Being. The Being cannot be without the Qualities because the Divine Being cannot be perfect without all the Qualities.
  • 17. Some Attributes Of God  1. THE ATTRIBUTE OF LIVING  Allah Ta`ala is Alive and the Attribute of Life is established for Him. It is stated in the Qur'an Majeed:“He is Alive and The One Who sustains and maintains everything". The Life of Allah Ta`ala is from always and will last for always.  2.THE ATTRIBUTE OF HEARING  At any given split second He hears the chirping of birds, the sound of the insects in the innermost part of the mountains, the walking of an ant on the smoothest of rocks, the sound of all the fishes swimming the oceans, etc. etc. It is stated in the Qur'an Majeed: Indeed Allah Ta`ala is All-Hearing, All-Knowing”
  • 18.  3.THE ATTRIBUTE OF SEEING  He sees EVERYTHING, whether it is in the pitch darkness or bright light, near or far, during the day or night. it is stated: “Indeed He Sees everything.”  4.THE ATTRIBUTE OF KNOWLEDGE  whatever is occurring, has occurred or will still occur, He had perfect and detailed Knowledge of it, because HE has to fulfill the needs of every creation.  “O my son! If there were an atom the size of a mustard seed and it were in a rock or in the heavens or the earth, Allah would come with it. Indeed Allah is All-Aware of the most delicate of things.”
  • 19.  5.THE ATTRIBUTE OF INTENTION AND WILL  Whatever Allah decides, it happens such and whatever He does not will, does not take place. “You cannot desire anything without The Desire of the Rabb of the universe.”  Question: then why we are accountable of bad actions?  Answer: when a servant enacts an action then three things are necessary. The first is that the relevant limbs be in order and intact. The second is that the servant uses the power given to him by Allah Ta`ala to use his limbs and carry out that action. Thirdly, it intention of ALLAH TALA to create that action. Therefore the intention and will of the servant finds further confirmation not that the intention of the servant was initially non-existent.
  • 21. Worship Of God  The motto of Islam is summed up in the expression of the Quran as “well being in this world and well being in the hereafter”  Islam discourages extremism in both extremes i.e the ultra-spiritualist , who renounce all worldly things and the ultra – materialist , who is engrossed. In worldly things that they do not care about others.
  • 22.  Islam can be practiced by all man kind as it is an intermediate path .  It develops both body and soul.  Islam seeks to develop individuality in man.  It also develops social collectivity . Saying prayers collectively in the mosque , performance of Hajj where Muslims from all parts of the world gather together are examples of collectivity.
