Computer System Servicing NC2 - Device Drivers for All Junior and Senior High School Students. DEVICE DRIVER.pptx

2. Install Application
Software
Application software or programs are
computer software package installed to computer
system or to mobile phone so that you can use it
for a specific function and purpose.
3. Operating System
An operating system is the software that supports a computer's basic
functions.
Windows Operating
System

versions
5. DEVICE DRIVER
A DEVICE DRIVER is a software program that
facilitates communication between hardware
devices and the operating system of a computer.
DEVICE DRIVERS are designed to be specific to
the hardware they control, as different devices
may require unique sets of commands and
operations.
6. DEVICE DRIVERS
are very essential for a computer
system to work properly because
without device driver the
particular hardware.
7. Device Drivers depend upon the
Operating System’s instruction to
access the device and performing any
particular action.
Working of Device Driver:
8. FOR EXAMPLE
- A printer driver tells the printer in which format to print after
getting instruction from OS.
- A sound card driver is there due to which 1’s and 0’s data of
MP3 file is converted to audio signals and you enjoy the
music.
- Card reader, controller, modem, network card, sound card,
printer, video card, USB devices, RAM, Speakers etc need
Device Drivers to operate.
Working of Device Driver:
10. TYPES OF DEVICE DRIVER:
For almost every device associated with the computer
system there exists Device Driver for the particular
hardware.
1. Kernel-mode Device Driver –
This Kernel-mode device driver includes some generic
hardware which loads with operating System as part the OS
these are BIOS, motherboard, processor and some other
hardware which are part of kernel software.
11. 2. User-mode Device Driver –
Other than the devices which are brought by
kernel for working of the system the user also
bring some devices for use during the using of a
system that devices needs device drivers to
functions those drivers falls under User mode
device driver.

RECAP. Okay so class let's recap on our previous lesson which is INSTALLING APPLICATION SOFTWARE right specifically INSTALLING MICROSOFT WINDOWS OPERATING SYSTEM. So what is an application software?
RECAP. Okay so class let's recap on our previous lesson which is INSTALLING APPLICATION SOFTWARE right specifically INSTALLING MICROSOFT WINDOWS OPERATING SYSTEM. So what is an application software?
An operating system is the software that supports a computer's basic functions, such as:
- scheduling tasks
- executing applications, and
- controlling peripherals.
The operating system can be considered as CORE SOFTWARE COMPONENT of the computer.
Microsoft Windows also called Windows and Windows OS, computer operating system (OS) developed by Microsoft Corporation to run personal computers (PCs).
- Device drivers are essential for ensuring that hardware functions properly and can be recognized and utilized by the operating system. WHY? Okay so Let us see… Kon ngaa
A DEVICE DRIVER is a software program that facilitates communication between hardware devices and the operating system of a computer. Because it acts as a translator and allow the operating system to interact with hardware components such as printers, graphics cards, or storage devices.
Naga serve sya as translator or interpreter sang hardware or device in order to communicate ang OS kag ang hardware.
Just like sang Ms Universe
DEVICE DRIVERS are designed to be specific to the hardware they control, as different devices may require unique sets of commands and operations.
By serving as an intermediary between hardware and software, device drivers enable the operating system to send commands to the hardware device and receive data or responses back. This seamless communication process is crucial for the overall functionality and performance of the computer system.
They are often provided by the hardware manufacturer and need to be installed on the computer system to enable the hardware device to work correctly. Overall, device drivers play a vital role in ensuring the smooth operation and compatibility of hardware devices with the computer's operating system.
DEVICE DRIVERS
are very essential for a computer system to work properly because without device driver the particular hardware. Fails to work accordingly means it fails in doing a particular function/action for which it has been created.
EXAMPLE SA NEXT SLIDE
Okay so here are some examples of Working of Device Driver
A printer driver tells the printer in which format to print after getting instruction from OS,
Similarly A sound card driver is there due to which 1’s and 0’s data of MP3 file is converted to audio signals and you enjoy the music.
Card reader, controller, modem, network card, sound card, printer, video card, USB devices, RAM, Speakers etc need Device Drivers to operate.
The following figure illustrates the interaction between user, OS, Device driver and the devices:
For Example the user gusto magprint sang picture, then a printer driver tells the printer in which format to print after getting instruction from OS, similarly A sound card driver is there due to which 1’s and 0’s data of MP3 file is converted to audio signals and you enjoy the music. Card reader, controller, modem, network card, sound card, printer, video card, USB devices, RAM, Speakers etc need Device Drivers to operate.
TYPES OF DEVICE DRIVER:
For almost every device associated with the computer system there exists Device Driver for the particular hardware.
So sa kada Device naton there are device driver exist nga associated.
But it can be broadly classified into two types:
1. Kernel-mode Device Driver –
This Kernel-mode device driver includes some generic hardware which loads with operating System as part the OS these are BIOS, motherboard, processor and some other hardware which are part of kernel software. These include the minimum system requirement device drivers for each operating system.
2. User-mode Device Driver –
Other than the devices which are brought by kernel for working of the system the user also bring some devices for use during the using of a system that devices needs device drivers to functions those drivers falls under User mode device driver. For example user needs any plug and play action that comes under this.
