Composer is a dependency manager for PHP that allows developers to declare libraries their project depends on. It handles downloading the libraries and their dependencies, and sets up an autoloader to make them accessible. To use Composer, a composer.json file lists required libraries, and running composer install downloads and installs them. This simplifies maintenance by automatically keeping dependencies up to date, and makes deployment easier by having all required code bundled together.
