Mero Mobile rebrands to Ncell
March 12, 2010 - 11:42 | by Nce ll
Spice Nepal Private Ltd., the first and leading private mobile operator in Nepal
offering its services under the brand Mero Mobile, announced today that it is
rebranding to Ncell. The rebranding comes as part of the company’s strategy to
further strengthen its position on Nepal’s mobile telecommunication services
market. From today, Ncell with a new brand identity including a new brand
symbol in the shape of a hi-tech stone in rich purple color is replacing the
brand Mero Mobile with its red-and-yellow coloring.
The new brand reflects Ncell’s corporate values which are: being a pioneer in
the market, reliability, agility in response to the market’s and consumers’
needs, social responsibility, and a deep and abiding aspiration t o be an integral
part of the country.
“Telecommunication services drive growth, competitive ness and transition to a
knowledge-base d society. These services strongly encourage and promote
economic, social and environme nta l benefits across industries, driving domestic
and foreign investments. Development of telecommunication infrastructure and
services is essential for the future prosperity of Nepal. People, who previously
have never had access to telecommunication services, will inevitably gain from
increased possibilities to connect to others and access information. Therefore, I
am excited about launching the new Ncell brand, marking a new chapter in the
company’s history,” says Mr. PasiKoistinen, CEO, Spice Nepal/Ncell.
Ncell plays an important role in developing the telecommunication
infrastructure and services in Nepal, contributing to the future prosperity of the
country and its citizens. During 2009, Ncell more than doubled its mobile
network which now covers more than 60 percent of Nepal's population. A s a
result, Ncell has today the best mobile network quality in Nepal, according to
customer and technical surveys.
“The expansion of mobile network coverage and the introduction of new
technologies - especially 3G, to start with, are of utmost importance f or the
future development of telecommunications in Nepal - as this is and will be the
most efficient way of connecting all business and citizens to the information
highway.
Like in any other advanced economy, we are convinced that the citizens and
business people of Nepal also want coverage and telecommunication services at
home, at work and indoors as well as outdoors, where access to information and
communications – regardless of income, age, gender or geography – improve
their quality of life.
6. 6
The new Ncell brand identity is an embodime nt of this aspiration. The stone
symbolizes connectivity, the start of a new conversation, a link between all
people in Nepal, the history and tradition of this land being enriched with
modern technologies. The purple color is energizing and inspiring, it reflects
the creativity, passion and reliability with which Ncell will continue to serve
its customers. We are committed to continue investing in the future
development of the telecommunication infrastructure and services in Nepal and
contribute to the future prosperity of the country and its citizens,” says Mr.,
PasiKoistine n.
The rebranding will be impleme nte d gradually nationwide , finally covering all
Ncell’s offices, shops and dealers.

Rapid expansion of Ncell's coverage
March 12, 2010 - 12:11 | by Nce ll
As thousands of new customers line up to take part in Ncell's Gift a Gift
campaign, mobile operator Spice Nepal is extending its coverage to many new
parts of the country.
Mr Pasi Koistinen, Chief Executive Officer of Spice Nepal says, “We are very
encouraged by the great interest in our Gift a Gift campaign, which is attracting
many new customers. The rapid expansion of our network is one way of
welcoming these customers by providing them with improved voice quality and
connectivity.”
Since May 2009 there has been a 16 percent increase in the proportion of
Nepal’s population coming within Mero Mobile’s operating area — an extra 4.5
million people — and a 7.5 percent increase in the area of the country covered.
The most recent figures show that the network now covers about 60 percent of
the population and around 22 percent of the total geographica l area. As of the
end of September, Spice Nepal, had more than 1.8 million subscribers.
Explains MrKoistine n: “In our commitme nt to offer the best mobile services in
Nepal, we are speeding up the rollout of our network across the country. Across
Nepal 400 professionals are working hard to install new towers and other
network equipment. Seventy percent of this team have been hired in Nepal.”
The Gift a Gift campaign was launched in October. Customers take part by
buying a Rs. 100 Mero Mobile recharge card from a participating outlet. They
also receive a gift-wrapped prepaid SIM card with a Rs. 15 balance, which can
be used by the customer or gifted to a friend or relative. The Rs. 15 bonus SIM
card can be spent on any Mero Mobile voice, data or value added service.
“Our campaign message is clear: We want our customers to share the Mero
Mobile experience with their friends and families. We want people to talk to
each other and we take great pride in providing them with the network to do
this,” added MrKoistine n.
Spice Nepal is owned by TeliaSonera, a Swedish-Finnish Telecommunications
Group. TeliaSonera operates in 21 countries in Europe and Asia and entered
Nepal in October 2008 to work in partnership with mobile operator Spice Nepal

Ncell subscribers base broadens to
2.4 million
Posted by ktm2day.com
The number of subscribers to Ncell’s GSM mobile service went up by 0.6
million during the first quarter of 2010 bringing the total number of
TeliaSonera subscribers in Nepal to 2.4 million.
All the Eurasian markets including Nepal of TeliaSonera have registered
an increase. Growth was strongest in Uzbekistan with a rise of 2 million
subscriptions to 5.1 million. Kazakhstan posted a growth of 0.3 million
subscriptions.
The total number of subscriptions in the Eurasian consolidated operations
increased by 0.7 million subscriptions, according to a financial report of
TeliaSonera based on the first quarter.
Business area Eurasia countries comprise Nepal, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan,
Azerbaijan, Tajikistan, Georgia and Moldova. The business area is also
responsible for developing TeliaSonera’s shareholding in Russian
MegaFon (44 percent) and Turkish Turkcell (38 percent). The main
15. 15
strategy is to create shareholder value by increasing mobile penetration
and introducing value added services in each respective country, states the
financial report. “Ncell subscription has increased because of better
network with better service and value added services,” said SanjuKoirala,
corporate communication manager of Ncell. “Customer trust has increased
after our re-branding.”
TeliaSonera had re-branded its operations in Nepal and Tajikistan to Ncell
and Tcell respectively in March 2010. The re-branding marks the
companies’ entrance into a new phase of dynamic development and will
allow new segments in the market to be targeted.
Following the re-branding from Mero Mobile to Ncell, the multinational
company has come up with a number of attractive schemes for ordinary
customers and corporate clients to expand its market.
The closed user group (CUG) targeted at the corporate segment, reduction
in the price of GPRS, introduction of lower international long distance
call rates and the recent launching of the cheapest handsets with Ncell
SIM cards are some examples of Ncell’s promotional moves.
“We have received a very good response from the handset scheme,” said
Koirala. She added that Ncell would be coming up with more attractive
offers for its customers in the upcoming fiscal year. Operation of 3G
mobile service, launch of Blackberry and customized package service for
corporate clients are also in the pipeline. (Source: ekantipur)
