Larry Page and Sergey Brin began developing what would become Google in 1997 while they were students at Stanford University. They originally created a search engine called Backrub and then eventually settled on the name Google. Google uses search algorithms and PageRank software to index websites and content across the internet. It allows users to easily search the web and filter results.
